You've got to play McCarthy and hope he can show signs of improvement and figure something out. Otherwise Jefferson is likely going to hold out for a trade.
This OLD roster is already likely heading toward a 'start over' moment. Maybe trading JJ for as many picks as you can is best?

both. I think the lack of an OL and ability to run the ball is probably the bigger killer. Seattle could rush 4 all day and get home. Max missed some open windows and made some bad decisions though on top of it.
Max was just as horsesh*t as JJ. The Vikes are royally F’d, there is no way to sugar coat.
This team spent the most cash this offseason of any team in the league, they are old with no talent in the wings and they have what has been the worst QB play imaginable and are going to have to completely redo the position next year.

By what measure is he not looking good right now? He has 5 TDs and 1 INT in the last 3 games and a passer rating of 100. Or are you referring to the Colts being 1-3 in the last 4?

Darnold is going back to the playoffs for the second year in a row and with his second team in two years (and Seattle didn't make it last year). That is no small feat. He also has his team tied for the best record in the NFC with 5 weeks to go and a shot at a bye, again.
You can literally rip threw rip through the top top QBs right now not named Stafford & Maye and make the same critiques.
Darnold is 28, in the playoffs again and probably going to be there quite bit moving forward.

Small sample size indeed, that is why I will only compare to his peers and its still not good at all. It is ok to have a small smaple size and actually show some promise.
This was his college report on throwing outside the numbers, a throw he couldn't make then. A throw he can't even come close to making right now in the NFL.
The biggest area of concern for McCarthy is his accuracy when throwing outside of the numbers. On such pass attempts, he recorded a 27.1% uncatchable throw rate, ranking 48th out of 105 eligible FBS quarterbacks. That same stat is just 10.8% everywhere else for him, fifth best in the nation. It's a noticeable gap, and it stems from some poor mechanics. Strange footwork tends to lead McCarthy to overstride when he targets these outside throws. He could clean it up in the NFL with coaching to help him do a better job of keeping his base underneath him.

Every year in the NFL is very different. Obviously, this season hasn't gone the way we wanted but if not for a long kickoff return that set up the game winning FG by Chicago the Vikings would be 4-3 (3-1 in the division) in games started by McCarthy including a road win over Detroit and a series sweep over the Bears (9-3) who are the currently the #1 seed in the NFC.

He had 5+ years of mostly terrible play in NY showing why you don't tell him he'd come in as the starter. They said the same thing to him that Indy did. Here's a lot of money, if you can come beat the incumbent its your job. Danny Dimes saw Anthony Richardson in Indy and JJ McCarthy here and said "Indy is an easier job to win."

I'd say the Lions and Rams showed the blueprint at the end of last season which is part of the reason, IMO, the Vikings were hesitant to give him a massive contract. Not every team in the league has the defensive ability to use said blueprint but the good defenses do. IIRC it was a week or two weeks before the Vikings game where Darnold had a 0 TD, 4 INT game against the Rams.
