I couldn’t even imagine what the carnage would be if we had a top level sniper on this team to pair up with Mooney.  He can create so much time and space and set people up.  Also, Hendrickson is such a menace when he is in the offensive zone.  Giving our opponents fits, I love it.  I’d love it even more if he was getting rewarded more on the score sheet for all his hard work, because that man is busting his balls for this team!  Hell of a player.

That was Axel Begley's first Gopher goal and first Gopher point.

Dare I say they wound up showing a bit of an identity as the evening went on. The very end showed that the identity may be Little John effing Mooney. Love that twerp.

everyone who said he’d remind us all of rau seems about spot on. Goals will come but the tenacity is heavy with that kid. His parents raised a battler with a hell of a lot of heart

John Whipple made a great stretch pass to Johnny Mitts on the game winning goal. Moore touched the puck before Moe put it in so Whipple didn't get an assist, but his pass set up the goal.

@jupiter  let us know if you hear of any discipline coming. Saw they tacked some grabbing the face masks and misconducts at the end which I suppose explains the ten minutes at the end in the box for review

The by far smallest guy stirring the pot at the end to defend his goalie should fire everyone else up. We’ll see tomorrow.

This is the 5th straight game the Gophers have had a higher expected goals than their opponent. Winning 4 of the 5 games and 3 straight in the Big Ten.

We now have a winning record in the Big Ten.

AWESOME!!!!!! penalty kill after another "interesting" call by the refs.

I was watching the idiot that called that before the faceoff.  He was glancing up at the board watching the replays, and I could see his face change when he realized how badly he effed that one up.

According to CHN, Van Ohm and Mooney both got 5 grabbing the facemask and Game Misconducts, Dowiak and Ziemer both got 2 for roughing and regular misconducts

Very pleased with how the boys looked outside of a couple stretches in the third.

How bout those special teams, eh?!

Oh and Little John can play on my team any day. Love that kid.

I am really digging Moore's game the past few weeks

Hendrickson creates a ton of opportunities and could not buy a break tonight

Gophers got owned at the dot in the first period, start to win draws and good things happened.

MN played the body more in the 2nd and more good things happened.

Shout out to Beckett Hendrickson. Constant energy. Creating tons of chances for himself and his teammates.

Moore and Moe are really elevating their games. That line was outstanding.

On the flip side… holy hell Gruba! That was a very rough game for him. He is making tons of mistakes out there.

After not handing out any suspensions for the Wisconsin and Michigan kerfuffle a few weeks ago, I fully expect we get suspensions from this.

It didn’t help that the replay zoomed in on the skates and showed the guy just fell. I didn’t know we had that quick of a zoom capability on the replay in the arena.

Some still can't help themselves when it comes to Whipple.

Ziemer with the Snuggy was a thing of beauty!

Crowd despite the size was really into the game.

Any clips from the end of game shenganigans?

Finally just happy the Gophers were somehow able to stay within the same building as PSU.

Great game, and got some good shop towels 😂

The 2nd period was fun to watch! When they play with pride it makes a huge difference.

Hopefully they can get the sweep tomorrow night.

Happy to be eating crow tonight. Boys definitely played with some heart.

Expect PSU to be flyin' tomorrow, hope the Gophers can raise the bar yet again.

This is essentially college sports in a nutshell. I had a D3 coach tell me once, 'well you showed it here against one of the best teams in college football, now the challenge is to do it every time going forward.'

Some also attempted to throw crap on the ice after a bad penalty call. ( I think it was the Mooney "trip" call ) A couple of things hit the ice, luckily that was it.

Mooney showing serious swagger at the end there.

I'm not usually a fan of the extra "crap" but I LOVE Mooney's edge.  Kid plays with some swagger.  Plus, Van Olm was acting like a punk all night.  A little punch to the nose was fine by me.

I guess the whiteout worked...

Sorry, I'm taking full credit.  I stood for the Gopher intros tonight.  I've sat for them most of the year trying to do something different than I've done in the past.  Guess I'm standing again tonight.

I give these kids a ton of credit.  After playing what I thought was some of their best hockey in the first they could have mailed it in after those two goals.  Instead they dug in and kept fighting.  Also loved that they were down 13-5 in faceoffs after the first and were close to even my game end.  Some huge wins during the PKs.

As for McKenna, you can see the skill for sure.  He's young but talented.  It will be interesting to see what this does to his draft position.  I would think it could impact how other CHL kids view a move to college hockey going forward.

So many positives.  I think Moore's upside is big.  I still feel as though he is just scratching the surface.  At times he seems like he's thinking rather than reacting and is a step behind.  Then others, when he's flowing it's really fun to watch.

Even though the Gophs scored on the PP, PSU's PK is good.  They are aggressive at the right times and make it really tough to play against.

So great to see the player reactions when Begley scored.  Shows they care about each other.

And thank you students.  There is truly nothing better when the place gets loud after some great plays and goals.  Really fun.

Their most complete effort all year. Penn State reminds me of some of the more talented Gopher teams recently. Always wanting to make that extra move at the offensive blue line. So many good transition rushes because of that for the Gophers last night. Should be another fun one tonight.

One noticeable thing last night was how active our sticks were in the neutral zone and at the blue line defensively. I lost track of how many passes we tipped or poke checks at the line that stopped their momentum entering the zone. It is an easier style to play against as the Wisconsin, Duluth, and Michigan States of the world will dump it and force our D to turn around and go get it.

Fun game to follow! Don’t get FS1 but it was fun to listen to Wally and Sam. Like others have said, really impressed with the complete effort from the whole team tonight. Hope they take this and run with it. Play with intensity and a purpose for a full 60 and good things happen. Also, good on them for not getting down on themselves after going down 2-0. Would love to sweep tonight but PSU is going to come out swinging. All I ask for tonight is that the boys continue to play the way they did last night, wear the M with pride, and continue to show progress moving forward. If this was the last four years I would say, have to sweep tonight. But with how things have shaped up the past month and a half I really just want to keep seeing this team continuing to improve. The rest will come. Like Motzko said, we’re not out of the woods tonight but we can see the light.

Was concerned that things would get out of hand after the Gophers outplayed them in the first and PSU got two flukey goals. Great bounce back in the 2nd. Obviously special teams were huge last night, would love to see that continue. A sweep would be a huge confidence boost for these guys.

Was the guy asking a question about 55 watching a different hockey game than us lol… you can even see Bob smirk like “um…”

I do think Mooney taking the draws on the right hash has been a super important improvement. They even had him take the draw on a kill, win it, and go straight off the ice twice.

This might be the first game of the year that the team played with pace and operated like a unit. That alone is a huge improvement, and it's the first time they've given me hope that they may have something to build on.

Unfortunately, they've built themselves a big hole they may not be able to climb out of, but if they keep playing like this, at least they'll be fun to watch again.
