The Sharks are 4-5-0. They lost in OT to Penn St and New Hampshire.

I assume this video is from last week. Gruba in an injury jersey. Obviously didn’t deter him from playing, but may have hampered him a bit. Anyone know the injury?

This was probably filmed a month ago after the Tech series
I had no idea they were the Sharks
Guess who the Wild play tonight?
It is a sharky week, but not shark week.
Audio from the media availability yesterday.

Trap series shouldn’t exist for this team, no reason to take anyone lightly. That being said, total trap series. Hopefully the coaches are drilling in their heads that LIU will be legit competition.
If this team is taking any opponent lightly with the amount of talent it has that's not gonna end well. That said I don't think they will, if they lose any games this series it probably has more to do with the teams being more similarly skilled than they should be.
Literally gonna be men vs boys out there this weekend. That’s what scares me. Obviously the Gophers have the talent edge but talent only gets you so far when you go into a corner with a 6’2 220 lb 24 year old who spent 4 years in the BCHL bussing to games. Hard to replicate that kind of “hunger”.

Gophers average size is bigger than LIU and they only have 9 rostered guys who played CHL (that I can see) with some of their older guys being their press box watchers. Their top 7 scorers are all under 6'1" and are generally 03-04s. Have a few big defensemen but that should not be an excuse. they take a ton of penalties so more its just don't get caught up in their stupid shit and come out ready to go.
Young guys should be used to getting kicked in the teeth if they don't work and last weekend showed they have made strides (of note, ND has 1 dman and 4 forwards who are not in that age bracket cited). No excuses and this was supposed to be part of us "getting older". Get er done Bob.
According to CHN they have only 5 more penalties this season than we do, and a better PK %….
According to CHN they have only 5 more penalties this season than we do, and a better PK %….
3 less games though. They're 5th in PIM/G and we're, despite the feeling of massive uptick, 61st. we give up about 3 PP attempts per game vs their 4.5.
Yes there is some skew due to majors (3 majors in 9 games) but acting like the discipline is the same isn't quite right.
Our PK has been bad this year (again) which is a problem I agree. Luckily their PP is also meh.

(1) Ugh. I’ve always hated these “““cupcake””” (using this term very loosely) series against irrelevant teams who always love thugging it up and injuring our guys in our home barn, when our wallets and B1G cash are keeping their lights on.
(2) Alaska was #63-64 in PP efficacy last year when they came, and they still looked like a prime Michigan squad on their PPs against us lol. I think Alaska’s PP was actually net-negative (more shorthanded goals allowed than PP goals scored).

why you gotta go and give me anxiety about this weekend like that? 🤣
Alaska's power play was a net zero in the series against the Gophers last season one power play goal scored and one short handed goal given up both of which happened in a Gopher 5-2 win.
Taking my youngest to the game tonight… Hoping for several Gopher goals in the 2nd period!!!
Gold jerseys again. If it ain’t broke…
Cal and Ludtke are both back. Ludtke playing fourth line left wing. I would assume to ease him back in to the game. Looks like Luca is going to start in net. Hard to argue with that after his solid performance last weekend.
Tanner Ludtke is back and appears to be getting eased back in playing 4th line left wing at least to start with. Cal Thomas is back. August Fallon is still out.

Thomas is on the second D pairing with Gruba.

Great catch. I missed that so I updated my previous post to reflect that he is back.

4-2 when scoring first. 0-5-1 when giving up the first goal. Just saying.
Less than an hour from the start of the Jeff Frazee series. 😉
I agree not falling behind is a key after all Sharks are known to be VERY dangerous when they smell blood. 😀
This season Long Island has been tough on multiple Hockey East teams and a Big Ten team.
At BU lost 4-2 but out shot the Terries 38-32. BU scored two power play goals. The expected goals were Long Island 2.7 to 2.6
At Penn State lost 5-4 in overtime (3 on 3 goal). Expected goals were Sharks 3.6 to 3.2
At New Hampshire lost 3-2 in overtime (3 on 3 goal).
At Merrimack won 5-2
Long Island is #14 in NPI (NCAA Percentage Index) the new Pairwise.

well discussed NPI means even less this year this early than the PWR. They’re no slouch like some of the teams our BT colleagues feasted on, but let’s not make it seem like they’re poised to be a tournament team
Eric Schierhorn in the pre game just said you can't take a goalie out of the line up (referring to Luca) who made 53 out of 52 saves. I agree a goalie with a saves percentage of 102% the previous weekend should definitely continue to play. 🤣
Obviously, he met 52 of 53 saves so I am just having some fun with what he said.
To me the key to this season is how much Whipple, Rombach, and McLaughlin improve throughout the season. All three are showing improvement that is noticeable.
Rombach and Whipple have been good for the most part. Rombach leads the team at +8 and Whipple is tied for 3rd +3 (second amongst defensemen).
McLaughlin is still last on the team at -7 but has been even the last 6 games.
You can tell in the interview with coach (just shown in the pre game show) that he knows Long Island is going to be a tough team.
Another hot mic situation for B1G+ lol as we heard Jim and Eric trying to figure how to pronounce Ludtke’s name haha.
brody my god are you kidding me
great start. gophers smothering in the neutral zone and have had a bunch of chances. let's get one here on this PP
What was MTUs PP the one year, where they were HORRID. Was it 9% or something? MN is approaching THAT. That's sad.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
you make your own luck encapsulated. lessssssgo. 1-0 gophers via ziemer off the LIU d man
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
max rud yeah that's awful. dipasquo way off his line though. 1-1
Almost just give up another and now we’re making LIU look like Michigan.
Does Rud know he’s allowed to skate with his guy btw? Just curious.
this fucking team man. just mental midgets at times. 4 guys standing around the guy who scores
What happens when talent doesn't work hard?
They suck, @gopheritall , they suck.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
That was pretty embarrassing.
LOL Max Rud. LOL.
Which is uglier? Gophers hockey or T-Wolves court color?

Kick The Can Bob!
Shots on Goal: Gophers 13-8
Scoring Chances: Gophers 5-2
Odd Man Rushes: Gophers 1-0
Luca gave him WAY too much to shot at. It gave the Sharks a life line who got going after the goal.
my goodness ive seen this movie before
