Know lot of people said lamb would be the scoring leader, but it’s hard to feel Zeimer will be that guy. He does so many things and contributes in so many ways he is going to find the scoresheet a lot
the one Tech defender who flopped in his own corner trying to milk a call should be embarrassed. Seeing as not even 20 seconds earlier, his buddy missed an obvious attempt to decapitate Pahlsson with speed at the Gophers blue line. Tech is starting to thug it up.
Digging the confidence by Lamb. Wondered if Lamb was gonna take another net-scrum penalty, 2min for “getting wailed on, without even defending himself” like in the Michigan game last year. Dunno how the refs let all that post-whistle crap slide.
Lamb had 26 points (17 goals and 9 assists) last season. 8 of the goals were on the power play and 1 was shorthanded. Lamb raising his even strength goals (8 last season) and the 9 assists IMO are a key to this season.
WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
Eric Pahlsson drives the net and scores!!!!!! Tate Pritchard makes the play to set it up.
Gophers 5-3
Freshmen defensive men Finn McLaughlin with his first Gopher point (the 2nd assist).
His name is Eric Pahlsson. His name is Eric Pahlsson. /FightClub

I was told this team wouldn't be able to score since they lost so many goals from last season. 🤔 😉 😀

To be faihhhhhhh, it IS Tech.

Hendrickson with an empty netter.
6-3
Tech last season gave up 2.7 goals per game. No team scored 6 goals in regulation against them.
In Bart’s defense, he had no chance on that last one.
Season over?
I thought Airey looked pretty good in net tonight. Thoughts?
Shots on goal end up Gophers 34-28
1st period Tech 11-7
2nd period Gophers 12-8
3rd period Gophers 15-9
so the last two periods it was Gophers 27-17
That W didn’t get us any points, meaning we’ll definitely grab less than six this weekend. Pack it up, folks.
Top 5 worst win ever. Terrible recruiting, Bob sucks.
Win one for the Wooger

Fixed your post.

The Gophers were incredibly disciplined taking no penalties. This has been a common theme for Gopher teams especially under Motzko.
The best way to not give up power play goals is to not take penalties.
The good: disciplined, kept fighting. Adapted.
The bad: took a while to keep Tech from controlling the puck, Airey did lose track of the puck a little more than he should have. Defensive lapses.

4 of the 5 Gopher freshmen who played tonight scored at least one point.
Tate Pritchard a goal and an assist
LJ Mooney lead assist on the game tying goal
Javon Moore lead assist on the game winning goal
Finn McLaughlin second assist on the goal that gave us our first two goal lead
Transfer Tanner Ludtke (a Junior) got his first point as a Gopher on the Ziemer game tying goal.

yep only new player to the gophers without a point tonight was Rombach
kind of crazy
What’s it going to take for Mooney to draw a tripping call? Apparently getting hauled down right in front of the ref twice in one period isn’t enough…
tBob has put together an intriguing roster. Wild to see a Gopher team with this much physicality. He can go ahead and lock in the Lamb/Clark/Moore line.
John Whipple made the stretch pass to Tanner Lutdke who took a hit but got the puck to LJ Mooney who set up Ziemer for the game tying goal.
The Whipple stretch pass caught Tech in a line change which is why Ziemer was open.

The game stats indicate that Tech based on the chances they got tonight had an expected goals of 3.5
Airey played well. The only goal that he was a factor in was the first goal giving up a rebound but every goalie gives up some rebounds. It was a 3 on 2 and he made a nice save on the original shot. The problem was it was only one defensemen back and the forward was unable to tie up the stick on the rebound. Forwards aren't good at that (see the goal that ended our season last year).
Giving up a 3 on 2 is obvious bad but it is doubly dangerous when it is a defensemen and a forward back rather than two defensemen.
Nice to see the jump they had in the final frame - took it to Tech and didn't look back.
Did Gruba ever come back to the game after getting injured?
Also, watching the highlights and hearing Frank do the play-by-play brought me back to the good ol' days of watching the maroon and gold.. nice jaunt down memory lane.
Anyone know the status of Gruba?

His rebound control still makes me wince but he actually made some pretty good saves through traffic tonight. Got better as the game went on.
After we gave up the first shot I was on the verge of selling my season tickets. Glad we salvaged the season. I think I’ll keep them. At least through tomorrow. 😉
Fun first game, glad to back at Mariucci! Free Culvers is never a bad thing! Neither is a double funnel night!
Props to tech, their students traveled well and were loud. At least the team kept them quiet in the third. While our students physically showed up, well…that’s about all they did. How do we fix that? I have many ideas.
Looking forward to part two tomorrow. First game jitters out of the way, rust shaken off. Let’s go! Hopefully the game ends with Goldy waving and being told to use his favorite cleaning implement…!
You can tell Frank’s voice is kinda gone but he’s got the same passion. Loved listening to replays of him and Pat.
Tate Pritchard is going to be a fan favorite, he plays with a controlled edge.

Losing Gruba would be catastrophic. Let’s hope he was just held out for concussion protocol and nothing else. He did get up right away after the hit and didn’t appear to be holding anything.

Loved him tonight. His feet never stop moving.
Great 3rd period response to quiet the Techies who invaded Mariucci.
Mooney is just as advertised.
Tonights team defense was a bit of a concern.
Need Jamie back. The PA should recognize the players scoring their 1st goal in the maroon and gold. Not a fan of tonights PA guy.
Ziemer will be a captain.
Airey was fine. Look forward to seeing Di Pasquo tomorrow.
Cal Thomas was a +4. I thought Rud played well.

This!
And one of the other four skaters needs to get the puck for him, it's been a long time since at least one player didn't bolt to grab a puck after a first goal. Someone from the bench finally got the ref's attention and nabbed the puck.

Pritchard is a stud. Mooney has elite edge work and vision. Ludtke looks great.
Looking forward to seeing Luca in the net tomorrow.
Really hoping Gruba is okay.
Sorry for being out of the loop but why don't these games count this weekend?
Sorry for being out of the loop but why don't these games count this weekend?
The games count towards overall record, national rankings, making the NCAA tournament but since they are non conference games they are no (conference) points hence the posts about not getting points. Those posts were in response to somebody posting that the Gophers need to get 6 points this weekend or it is a sign of a catastrophic season.
Anything less than 6 points is a sign of a catastrophic season.
Non-con games prob count more than anything, IMO.

@walker-barely-know-her This is what happens when your coach mails in a recruiting class. You have no one to step up.

12 different players had a point in the game with 5 of them coming from new adds.

At what point does this ***** Bonin clone get banned?
In terms of how teams through out the country are compared/ranked in Pairwise now NPI (NCAA Power Index) non conference games on average are more impactful then conference games.
Fans pay more attention to nation rankings than coaches do. The NCAA tournament is single elimination and any team in the tournament can beat any other team in the tournament so seeding isn't as important as we might think it is. Overall coaches put more importance on conference games because team's take great pride in winning their conference and normally only a couple/few teams are truly on the NCAA tournament bubble at the end of the season.
I used to get bothered by people who are constantly negative but now I have fun with it by including some jabs back here and there.
In the end I feel bad for people who are always Debbie Downers since if a sports team(s) brings you that much frustration why waste your free time following things that bring you that much pain?
IMO when it comes to being a sports fan (especially Minnesota teams 🤣 ) it is a lot more fun when you focus on the positives and try to forget the negatives.
Thought he was fine, hopefully we see LDP tomorrow.I thought Airey looked pretty good in net tonight. Thoughts?
