Let’s do this thing. Tech will not be a cake walk by any stretch of the imagination. The CHL players will raise the floor of college hockey.
If I were coach:
Mooney-Ludtke-Lamb
Moore-Clark-Ziemer
Hendrickson-Pahlsson-Pritchard
Townsend-Moe-Mittelstadt
Ex. fwd: Falloon
Whipple-Gruba
Rombach-Mittelstadt
McLaughlin-Thomas
Airey Friday
Di Pasquo Saturday
Spread the freshmen across the lineup, balance them with the experienced guys.
Always excited when the first series thread gets posted! We’ll certainly see what this team is made of pretty quickly. Can’t wait for Friday to see the maroon and gold take the ice and to hear Frank and Pat on the call!

i'd probably swap hendrickson and moore as I think those lines speed/size wise mesh a little better and you try have that 3rd line lean on teams a little more.
some of these guys are not quite as "freshman" as others as Pritchard has played 120 USHL games, McLaughlin 136, Rombach 116, and Townsend 135. Obviously its still a speed and physicality change, but lot of these guys will have done a couple of years of heavier hitting than some of our gopher Fr in the past who came straight from the NTDP or only played a year of junior.
Our of curiosity, did still go and look and we're still the 6th youngest team in the country with an average age of 21.6 provided CHN is updated and that's even with Begley, Rud, and Harris who will all be extras all as 03s on the roster.
So next season do the Gophers go to Mich Tech?

According to Bob, Yes.

Funny that Jup reported that Frank would be picking up this series but it’s been crickets from the actual team. You’d think they’d announce something so big. Maybe it’s not theirs to announce? Fox9 has to make the announcement? I’m sure Frank will get a moment on the Jumbotron during the two games.
@upnorthkid I agree on the Hendrickson / Moore swap.
get Moore settled in by playing on the 3rd to start.
maybe even Falloon swapped for Townsend Friday then see about Teddy going in Saturday
Doesn’t matter that this is the first series of the year, this is one of the most important NPI series of the year as our only comp to the CCHA. And yes saying NPI instead of pairwise feels super weird.
I think Townsend is going to surprise people in a good way, Moore might do the opposite but I hope I'm wrong.
Can't wait to get to Mariucci on Friday night!
Can't wait to get to Mariucci on Friday night!
Friday’s high temp is 89 degrees. Only question is whether to wear shorts in the arena or not?
Let's start the season with a blowout!
That is a big question. I wore shorts in October to a game at Mariucci way back when and I was about as cold as I have ever been at a hockey game. I went to the Vegas games last year in shorts and was okay.
Me on Twitter around 5PM Friday looking for line combos

if you sit higher up and/or the arena is packed, shorts are probably fine. If you are near the ice and it is not full, body parts may freeze off. 😂
I wonder how the ice will be with near 90 outside all weekend? 🫠

Im expecting the most out of Moore and Rambach.
I think Townsend is going to surprise people in a good way, Moore might do the opposite but I hope I'm wrong.
Ditto. I think Townsend is getting overlooked big time. I also think Moore is more of a project but I’m excited to see what he’ll become more so than what he is now.
@maroon_and_gold I agree with both of you regarding Townsend. I had a hard time choosing Moore over Teddy when I was commenting about my line speculation (obsessed fan here lol).
I think the challenge is typically the draw to continue to put the players with the higher NHL upside into the lineup over folks further down on the NHL prospect side.
that said, I’m guessing the easy button is to leave Falloon out of the lineup. I’ve said it before - I like Falloon so I’m hopeful that he gets a shot as well.
im rooting for Teddy as well. Seems like a great fit to be a four year guy!
Hoping that Moore learns to lean into his size advantage a lot more than a few former bigger forwards continuously shied away from. If he doesn't he's going to have to improve his hands and the ability to keep the puck on his stick to become a long-term impact player.

Agreed on everything here. Based on what Vegoe said on the pod, sounds like Teddy (and maybe Moe?) might be out this weekend. Falloon slides in comfortably on that 4th line with J Mitts. Talk about a line that’s hard to play against. I got a lotta time for guys who play like how those two play.
@maroon_and_gold agreed. J. mitts never stops moving his feet. Love his effort
too too bad on the other two possibly being out. I guess that allows a couple others to get opportunities which isnt a bad thing early on

Begley-Jmitts-Falloon (assumes Moe and Teddy hurt)

I’d assume Harris would get a look before Begley? No?

I asked Bob how healthy they are going into the season and he said couple guys are banged up and week to week.
Townsend and Moe weren't on the ice Tuesday/Wednesday, Moe did skate Monday.
Interesting. Hopefully nothing too lingering.
I’d assume Harris would get a look before Begley? No?
Why?
Begley committed to play D1, has played in D1 games, and has always practiced with D1 players; Harris did not, has not, and has never been expected or projected to. Harris is literally just a warm body who can skate if absolutely necessary.
Every series counts, especially the non-con ones.
Not ideal to be dressing Begley up front this early, but I would agree he is an easy call over Harris. Your 12th forward with limited ice time.
Anything less than 6 points is a sign of a catastrophic season.
Gonna win a game, maybe tie a game, maybe sweep, hell, might even get swept. It's Week 1 Over-reaction. Tradition, yo.

Can't wait for tomorrow night, over 6 months of Gophers hockey fun incoming!
IT’S GAME DAY!!!
Let the season begin! I can’t believe it’s October already (although I can’t say I’ve ever been able to swim outside and then go to a Gopher season opener on the same day before, so it doesn’t necessarily feel like October)…but I am here for it!
Looking forward to a fun season, I think it’s going to be a good one!

I like the version where we sweep by like 5 and grumpy say it means nothing and others say we’re winning the natty. I greatly prefer this to the depressing hole GPL becomes if we lose
At least wait until they lose the opening face off before going all Bonin21 on the bit.Anything less than 6 points is a sign of a catastrophic season.

Well Harris and Begley are both NAHL guys so let’s not pretend Begley is in some tier above Harris. Harris is a forward and Begley is a dman with limited experience at the position. If you wanna go with Begley for the D1 experience factor that makes sense I suppose but I’d look to Harris first personally.

I'd like to remind you and anyone else that may not know.
There are ZERO points being awarded this weekend.

This seems important but never talked about going into a season but any idea how we look on faceoffs?
whats the over under on how many shootout goals we score this year?
