Vikings #2 was beatable all day and Hurts obviously knew it. Hurts made a couple key good plays for his team while Wentz made a couple of costly plays for the Vikings.
If Minnesota had Hurts today, they would probably have won by a couple of touchdowns.
The Vikings horribly miscalculated their QB situation going into the season. McCarthy got nothing last year; a bit of training camp, some snaps in the first preseason game and then he was done. The 2024 season was limited to academics only; the playbook, game film and press box. He was a complete rookie again, entering this season. We can debate whether they should have made more of an effort to resign Darnold or Jones. Regardless, saying "JJ is our #1 guy for this season" was either incredibly arrogant, terribly short-sighted or both. Certainly, injuries to the o-line and the Addison suspension played a factor, but to take a rookie QB, with limited reps in game situations and anoint him your starter was a clear mistake. I know KOC is the "quarterback whisperer", but this was a bad error in judgment.
Regarding the game today, I only saw the first half. What irritated me was the play calling on what turned out to be a 34 yard FG by Reichard. You have 2nd & 1 on the Philadelphia 6 and you throw two incompletions in a row to make it 4th & 1. A TD is then nullified by a holding call and you end up with 3 points instead of 7. On 2nd down or 3rd down, run the ball and at least get 1st and goal. I like O'Connell, but way too often he gets too cute for his own good. Just my 2¢.
IIRC, Danny Dimes took LESS money in Indy because he knew he had a chance to start.

Boo Fucking Who! That doesn’t explain 5 Fning trips to the Red Zone that resulted in FG attempts! They gave up multiple YUGE pass plays on D & a pick 6 interception. That’s simply too much to overcome against most teams and especially the defending SB champs. KOC “too cute” play calling in the red zone continues to plague him & the purple too! It all added up to the loss.
You're not wrong, but one has to admit that it is difficult to get a rhythm with that many combos. Good teams overcome that.

Looks like Wentz is starting Thursday vs Chargers at SoFi. While I’m OK with that, 10 days later at Detroit JJ McCarthy needs to be at the helm. That gives the Vikings the last 10 regular season games of 2025 to evaluate JJ (assuming he stays healthy) which might be a big assumption based on his 2 year track record since being drafted in the 1st round of 2024. Hoping for the best though, but holding breath a bit regarding JJ durability.

He’s been serviceable before that game. I would love for him to be Thursday night and he may be. Against PHI he missed f load of throws. He’s not the long term answer and neither is McCarthy so we’re back to waiting for the next Throsmer…

Your comment has to do with decision making.
My point has nothing to do with decision making and has to do with whether JJ is ready right now to be an NFL starting QB, regardless of the decision they made in the off season. And right now it could be very likely he is not ready and if that is the case throwing him out there does not do much positive for his development.
I believe KOC is protecting him from a potential disaster knowing that if year one goes down as "year 1 towards a bust" you aren't doing the player any favors and you are then one more bad year from a complete disaster.
Also, it is kinda laughable that Kwesi in particular could actually be sold on JJ being ready to be the starter in March of 2025. What could he possibly be going off of, when a 21 year old coming off of a wire to wire injured season? His decision was $ related and trying to fill the enormous holes throughout the roster in FA. Not being able to draft has big time consequences.

That was UGLY by the Vikings last night. With how good Detroit & Green Bay are this year, 3-4 Vikings aren’t making the playoffs under any circumstances. So play McCarthy, find out what he’s GOT as a QB & move on to 2026. If they ever heal up they might be able to be spoilers late in season, but that’s it. 🙁

I agree, injuries aren't fun and don't help but the Chargers were pretty banged up as well, especially on their oline.

Also, Darrisaw was hurt going into this year and we had no backup solution. In the NFL you can't plan for everyone to be healthy all the time.
The D-line was "fixed" with two over 30 players who are also injury risks. Surprise surprise they are hurt again. We trade away Harrison Phillips because there would be no room to play him with all the talent we have. Now we can't stop the run. Plus we were counting on Dallas Turner to be a serviceable defensive end, which is a far stretch from what he had shown to this point. Again not surprising that he has disappeared.
Pretty wild to consider that if KOC and the Vikes go 7-10 this season KOC will have the same winning percentage as Zimmer after 4 seasons.

All correct and solid examples. Supplementing your roster in FA will always be needed especially in the NFL where there are so many players and moving pieces.
Building your roster in FA is recipe for disaster. The scary part is the Vikes are just scratching the surface (in a bad way) of what is to come.
