This hand injury isn't about not being able to play with pain it is about being able to grip the ball.
Two weeks ago the fumble return by the NY Giants defense right before half time was because his grip/ability to hang onto the ball was compromised. Here is a replay of the play he tries to ground the ball but couldn't hold onto to the ball and the play where his hand hits the Giants players helmet injuring his hand.

QBs have to leave the game if their grip on the ball is compromised.
He could have easy sat out today but he played through the pain the first half risking the injury getting worse which it did during the game to help his team which he did in getting a 13-0 lead by halftime.

That was the most frustrating VIKINGS season since Leslie Fraser was HC! Can’t just roll with JJ McCarthy as the only starting QB option in 2026. McCarthy inability to stay healthy and be available to play on Sunday over the past two season headlines a plethora of concerns regarding his capability of being the Vikings long term answer at QB!
The draft class JJ came out of are all successful except him. Not a good look for the organization, especially moving up to get him, passing up on Nix. Wasn’t Dart in that year too?

Personally at the time drafted I like many totally ok with the pick. To me for what it’s worth looks like a bust pick (right now) until proven otherwise. I’m hopeful to feel different but the success out of the gate by the others in that class doesn’t help how he’s judged not necessarily fairly.

Three of those four were 1st overall draft picks and going to very bad teams which comes with an enormous challenge physically on the field as well as mentally/pressure. Two of those weren't even from comparable eras, not to mention Manning set a number of rookie records in competitions, attempts, passing yards, and TDs.
JJ took over a 14 win team with a hall of fame receiver who didn't just magically go from a 1500 yd guy to a 1000 yd guy in one year. That happened because of abysmal QB play.
Regardless its not about giving up on him (I don't think anyone is saying cut him or trade him for a mid round drat pic), its about him not being handed the job when he clearly didn't deserve it nor was he ready for it and this isn't his fault, its the front office's fault for completely mismanaging the position.
Fortunately next year he can only step out on the field as the starter if he is the best QB the Vikings have and fortunately they will be forced to handle the position better than whatever they tried to pull this past year. Unfortunately they wasted a year of what should have been a good team in a wide open field this past season.

Just watched the Minnesota Vikings 1976 season video on You Tube god I miss going to outdoor football we had seats at the Met sitting in the outfield left field area we were on the 50 yard line maybe 20 rows from the field

In the 1970's from what I can tell, every time the Vikings hosted a playoff game the the temperature promptly dropped, and the Rams' had to come here to play. I wish it was still the same way.

As he should be. His drafting has been abysmal. His handling of the CAP and the Vikings current situation, abysmal and the handling of the most important position in all of sports, abysmal. No way he should be the guy going into the off season figuring out the QB dilemma and overseeing another draft.
Kudos to the Wilfs for making this decision.

This was a very good move. Get somebody in here that has an eye for talent.
I don't think anyone outside is own family is disappointed with that move.
Admittedly IDK what analytics even means in football, the closest thing I can think of is PFF where they watch every single play and assign grades etc. And even then they're having to guess re schemes and responsibilities within said scheme etc. Also not sure how analytics would help you in drafting which clearly was his weakness, I know the Packers use some type of athleticism metric when drafting but that's gotten them mixed results.He was supposed to be an analytics guy. It's interesting because I feel like all the teams in the division have good coaches and the margins are really tight. There's a lot of Packer fans who wanted LaFleur fired but I don't think there's any team in this division that would likely benefit from doing that. There isn't a coordinator like Ben Johnson out there who's an obvious candidate for an upgrade and I can't say I'd want to hire any of the guys who just got fired. The Keon Coleman situation in BUF was sorta the same effect as JJ in MN. The execs said "nah" and the coaches pushed, and the coach lost out (partially the decision). But the owners run the show, period.

They could definitely use a quick young healthy pass catcher out of the backfield in the draft to accompany mason who’s a good north and south between the tackles guy that’s good deep in the red zone as well. I love Mason they just don’t like to use him as a receiving back.

From the Vikings side of it I don’t see it as a bad thing to throw it out there in case there’s a team that can use a jones who’s still got value as a compliment back just not a work horse. If he fits in with a need somewhere the Vikings could get a free late round pick for something they were parting with anyways. I donno just my 2cents.

Correct. The way the guarantee is written in the contract with Arizona is that there is an offset clause if he gets cut and resigns. So if he signs for 10 million with a new team, AZ will pay him 26. If he signs for 1 million, AZ will pay him 35.
So from Kyler's perspective and the new team it makes no sense to help the Cardinals out, sign for as little as possible with new team which is obviously what we see happening.

I don't disagree with that given JJ's injury history once he turned pro.
Where one guy gets it short-sighted is they're not going to hand over the #1 spot to a career 92 RTG QB that averaged 7 wins per season on a team that is not even in Win Now mode. The Vikings cap will prevent them from adequately fixing the OL, RB, WR among other positions that need help, and they still need to find out sooner than later if JJ can be a franchise guy or not.
