12 teams is a weird number. Especially with the Bye. If all the teams with byes lose again this year, there's no way they'll let that keep happening.
16 is too many. 8 is a good number and large enough to ensure that the top teams really do make it in. Need to stop the auto-bids that give slots to teams that clearly aren't in the running, and just take the 8 best.

16 in football is no different than 16 in hockey. With 16 or 12, they been the first round and second round (quarterfinals) to be back to back weekends. Play the semifinals on Jan. 1st and the championship being on a Monday. Not to interfere with the NFL.

Though they went away with it and just this year brought back the Bison mascot. And actually Indiana started in the early 1900s with an owl as their mascot and going with the Hoo-Hoo-iers chant.
