So, I’m thinking they’re hoping to dig up a forward for ‘27.
Another “D” and a goalie for ‘28. Possibly another forward if they can’t find someone impactful for ‘27.
I missed this one during the three game 🇨🇦/🇺🇸 series

So, assuming the staff is planning for a goalie for this recruiting cycle, who are the candidates?
Maybe most likely: Rylee Allison - Pittsburgh area native that plays in the BK Selects system
Maybe?: Emma Pieper - Plays at East Grand Forks High School. Named to the U.S. team for the three game series with Canada. Did not play. Seems to have emerged as the top in state candidate.
Long shot: Norina Schrupkowski - Swiss girl. Named the top goalie at the IIHF u18 World Championships last January.
New commit: defender Taylee Manion of Hill-Murray by way of Hermantown. Played at U18 last year and will almost certainly do so again this year. She wore an A at the summer tournament.
A Hermantown recruit to the “U”. See Men’s coaches, was that so hard? 🥸
2027

D Anaïs Leprohon (Limoilou) From St-Sauveur, Quebec
2028

D Taylee Manion (Hill-Murray) From Hermantown
D Callie McCullough (BK Selects) From Westport, Connecticut
F Mackenna Schlieman (Breck)
F Mia Sutch (Centennial)

Probably means nothing, but Warroad’s Jaylie French recently decommitted from Dartmouth.

Hermantown to Hill Murray...nothing like getting away with recruiting and ruining girls hockey.
Holy Family adding several this year, but claims they don't recruit.

Ms. Pieper commits to Bemidji State.

Won't be until next year but I'd imagine Allie Callinan will be a candidate especially with her family connections to the men's program.
NorthStar Christian Academy is expanding into the girl’s hockey game.

Labor Day weekend is traditionally the start of the fall talent showcase season for girl’s hockey. The two big events are the PIP Labor Day Girls Fest (FOLLOW HERE) in Pittsburgh and the NAHA Labor Day Tournament (FOLLOW HERE) in suburban Boston.
Only three
commits taking part that I could find, all in the 19u division at PIP. Mia Sutch and Mackenna Schlieman are playing for the Minnesota Whitecaps Black team and Callie McCullough plays on the BK Selects 19u team.
There are Minnesota teams in all three age divisions of both tournaments.
Duluth picks up a top ‘28 commitment in Whitby, Ontario forward Savannah Halleran. She’ll be playing for Etobicoke this coming season.
Minnesota teams excelled at the PIP Labor Day thing this past weekend in Pittsburgh. In the 19u division the Minnesota Whitecaps Black team dropped the championship game 4-2 to the Stoney Creek Sabres team of the OWHL after having defeated the Sabres in an earlier round robin game. The Whitecaps were led by a line of
recruits Mia Sutch (Centennial) and Mackenna Schlieman (Breck) plus future badger Claire Somerfeld (Minnetonka). They were the top three scorers in the entire tournament.
Sutch 6-6-12
Somerfeld 5-7-12
Schlieman 6-5-11
Sabres forward Ashley Austin ‘27 (Northeastern) was named the 19u MVP.
In the 16u division Minnesota Whitecaps Black ran the table beating Chicago Mission in the final. Holy Family forward Audrey Nichols ‘29 was named the division MVP.
In the 14u division the Minnesota Jr. Whitecaps also beat Chicago Mission in the final to claim the championship. Orono goaltender Lola Lamparske ‘31 was named 14u MVP. Lola first came on the public scene three years ago when she was the first girl to make Minnesota’s “Brick” team.
The other Gopher recruit taking part was BK Selects defender Callie McCullough. In the stats she was listed as having played BK’s first game and then she was marked as injured. I am guessing as she missed the National Festival after being named she has likely been injured all along. Hopefully she will be ready to go for the local NIT tournament in October.
The GIRL’S ELITE LEAGUE kicked off last night. The season concludes with the Tradition NIT Tournament which takes place October 14-18.
Gopher commits playing in the league:
MN Elite Black - General Sports
- Taylee Manion (Hill-Murray) ‘28
- Jaycee Chatleain (Hill-Murray) ‘27
- Talla Hansen (Benilde) ‘27
MN Elite Silver - MSP
- Mackenna Schlieman (Breck) ‘28
- Mia Sutch (Centennial) ‘28
Elite league rosters out: An absolute joke of some on these rosters is beyond even trying to hide what they do. Take those rosters with a grain of salt.
Word is MN Hockey is aware of the politics of Elite League and in the next few years making changes
Another very large girl’s hockey recruiting showcase going on this weekend, the Stoney Creek (Ontario) University Showcase (LINK). Three Gopher recruits participating:
- D Callie McCullough (Bishop Kearney Selects) ‘28
- D Anaïs Leprohon (Limoilou Cegip) ‘27
- F Ryann Chimera (Okanagan Hockey Academy Edmonton) ‘28
At the Stoney Creek event this weekend Gopher recruit Ryann Chimera of OHA Edmonton and Colgate recruit Mikayla Barnes of home town Stoney Creek tie for the scoring lead with 13 points. Chimera had a 8-5-13 line while Barnes was 7-6-13. They were the only two players in the 68 team field with double digit points.
A little more on the Stoney Creek event.
Story on
defender recruit Taylee Manion from earlier this month
https://letsplayhockey.com/taylee-manion-gophers-commitment/
Third defensive recruit of the 2028 class. All shoot right-handed.
2027
F Jaycee Chatleain (Hill-Murray)
F Talla Hansen (Benilde)
D Anaïs Leprohon (Limoilou) From St-Sauveur, Quebec
2028
F Ryann Chimera (OHA Edmonton) From Edmonton, Alberta
D Taylee Manion (Hill-Murray) From Hermantown
D Callie McCullough (BK Selects) From Westport, Connecticut
F Mackenna Schlieman (Breck)
F Mia Sutch (Centennial)
D Alexis Ulrich (Breck)
Tall (5’9”), lanky defender. Plays a solid, mostly conservative style. Played for the U.S. in the 🇺🇸 vs. 🇨🇦 series back in August. Both of the current Breck commits are Prior Lake natives, I believe.
Should have links for the Minnesota high school players in about a month. Probably won’t have links for Callie McCullough or Anaïs Leprohon.
A whole 🤬 load of names in this piece. Some I have a good handle on, some I’m only familiar with the names and the vast majority I’ve never heard of (especially the younger ones). All the
commits are mentioned. Unless they come up with a goalie, I’m thinking the class of ‘28 is likely done. Looking at these lists I see three names possibly worth remembering for the class of ‘29, all forwards. Hannah Rychley is a Forest Lake girl playing at Hill-Murray. Audrey Nichols is a Chanhassen girl playing at Holy Family. Eva Bélanger Is a Quebec girl playing on Shattuck’s U16 team. Seems like there might be some early mutual interest.
Be interesting which are "Pohl" girls or Winny girls. That may have some influence on where they go.
Quote: outofstate outofmindReposting the uncommitted players that the Gopher Instagram account follows:
D Maeve Aird (Whitby)
D Taylee Manion (Hill-Murray)
D Alexis Ulrich (Breck)
G Rylee Allison (BK Selects)
G Quinn Kelly (Shattuck)
Aird commits to Ohio State.
The list of teams participating in the Girl’s Elite League NIT Tournament is out. Looks like the only Gopher commit attending (besides the local girls) will be Callie McCullough with the BK Selects u19 team. Very disappointed that OHA Edmonton (with Ryann Chimera) will not be here. They were here last year.
The tournament runs October 14-18 mostly at the Super Rink (some games at Fogerty).
