I want to see what this team looks like if Tanner Ludtke and/or Jimmy Clark gets going. As juniors they are both definitely capable of scoring a lot more than 4 goals (which they both have) more than 3/4 of the way through the regular season. After tonight the Gophers will have played 27 of 35 regular season games.

After tonight's win the Gophers are now 31 in NPI, 19 in KRACH. I realize KRACH doesn't matter but it does show how different the outlook would be if the NCAA moved to KRACH which does a much better job of factoring in strength of schedule.

Wisconsin has now dropped to #14 in NPI it would be a real shame if the BADgers missed the NCAA tournament due to getting swept this weekend. Oh darn. 😀

Power Play success often comes down to making crisp passes. The team definitely did that this weekend not just on the power play but in all three zones.
When the team lost confidence it affected their decisions with the puck and that results in sloppy play.
They were much better this weekend with their decisions with the puck and their passing was noticeably improved.
Opponents this season have played the Gophers very aggressively and we haven't been able to make them pay enough. This weekend we did because we played with composure.
Where was the Hastings has Coach's number because his style smother us into submission?
The puck can always move faster than players. Yes coaching matters but more often than not coaching is over emphasized and games are decided by which players execute better.
Roll through the next 4 and the season is right there

For the season the Gophers have scored on 11.1 % of their shots which is 9th in the country. This is a clear indication that the team has enough talent on the team to be good. It's just that they have played in their own zone too much which therefore hasn't allowed their skill to come through enough.
Yes getting out of your zone is something our defensemen have struggled with this season but often it takes multiple good passes to get out of our zone and it includes forwards making the final pass out of the zone which has been a problem too. Break outs has been a team problem not just the defensemen. This is where composure with the puck comes into play and making crisp passes. Young team often times struggle with these things especially when playing against tough opponents who are starting to smell some blood in the water and step up their aggressiveness but when the game starts to slow down for you it can be used against them and you can make them pay for being over aggressive which the Gophers did this weekend.
What a fun night at the rink. Ridiculous power play success, some highlight reel goals. Sitting by some Becky fans who were obnoxious early and very quiet late. Felt like we scored on almost every decent chance we had. Hoping the guys can take this really successful weekend and build on it and finish the season strong.

I don’t ever recall a 4 funnel game. I’ve been to a few 3 funnel games, but never 4. Nearly had a 5th with that last power play as well.
The team needed the lift and earned both wins this weekend. Something tells me Bucky will be working on the PK this week.
The WI defenseman who went down looked like a pretty bad injury. His left leg folded the wrong way under Whipple's full weight. It looked like the ankle but could be a knee too.

That is some 3d chess right there. Which really isn’t fair when you are playing the Badgers, they struggle with checkers.
I will say this about that Badgers team, and they should take real pride in this, when they drive across the boarder into Wisconsin, they will have raised the average IQ of both states.

How do we look as far as B1G tiebreakers in the standings/for home ice in the playoffs? Against Wisconsin our H2H record and goal differential are both exactly the same, what else might put one of us as the higher seed if we end up tied in B1G?

Expected goals in that one were basically 3-3 which tells you how bad popcorn goaltending was, can’t say I’m surprised they were both pretty bad. It was a fun series and I’m glad to see the team looking better but I’m not sure it’s a sign of anything other than Wisconsin is looking pretty fraudulent right about now.
edit: One thing I’ll add is that I’m glad Pahlsson is back and he is looking better, not necessarily just because of the goals but because he’s shooting the puck and making plays in front of the net. We could’ve really used him against Michigan because of his poise and ability to possess the puck and transition, nothing against Ludtke but he struggled in that role and seems better suited at wing.
The Gophers actually looked like the GOPHERS this weekend. A very convincing sweep over f’um Bucky Badgers!

The fact they put out the 4th line and still almost scored on a back door play is hilarious. The power play is just on another level. I can’t remember anything like this ever.
Someone pinch me, this can’t actually have been the result this weekend. I remember stealing myself briefly on Thursday and wondering “oh man, what if they somehow sweep this weekend” and then immediately thinking that unfortunately that was just not going to happen. Well, I’m glad I was wrong! What a fun weekend of Gopher hockey. They looked like a completely different team out there. From about halfway through the first period of game one through the rest of the weekend they looked confident, played with purpose and were aggressive on pucks. Still plenty of things to clean up, in particular the breakout, but overall I am very pleased with how this weekend went. Luca was great, power play was unreal, and watching the Gophers flying into checks on Bucky was awesome. I thought the whole D corps overall was solid but what a series for John Whipple. The guy is continuing to grow into a solid college defenseman. Good to get some forwards going. In particular Pahlsson and Hendrickson. Now we need Ludtke to get his confidence back. That top line should remain the same for the rest of the year. Lamb looking like the sniper that he is. Mooney is pure magic. Ziemer is a dawg and was a man on a mission this weekend. Give that kid a C next year.

We are still 32nd in NPI and on track to have arguably the worst season since the 70’s.
I am in the let this offseason and next season play out camp. The fact the locker room is sticking together indicates that is the right approach.
