Feels weird to be borderline dreading going in to Michigan State. They were the conference doormat for years and now they’re the team to beat. Still impressive the job that Nightengale has done over there. Although, I won’t be exactly thrilled about how good they are when they’re playing the Gophers this weekend. Gophers have to get one here. Seven losses in a row (not counting the exhibition up in Bemidji) would be a whole new low.
Can’t remember how many years in a row we missed the WCHA final five towards the end of tDons era but those were low times I’d like to forget. Moving forward 😁 sorry to get off track on the weekend a little.

MSU is better coached AND has the best goalie in the country. Sorry for an all time negative take but I don’t even think we score a GOAL this weekend. Two MSU shutouts is my prediction. Hopefully Luca can keep the games close.

I too have a hard time seeing us getting anything out of the weekend, but you damn well know I'm going to pick a win in Gopher Strike because I'm a homer and my heart wants it to happen for Bob and this team. Gophers sweep this weekend and they're in the mid 20s in NPI. NEVER SAY NEVER 
We hung in there with the ugly helmets on Saturday last weekend, and last I checked they were ranked higher (yes I know barely..). I see no reason we can’t do the same and eke out some points against sparty if we clean up some glaring mistakes. 🤷♀️

agreed. and i do think MSU is a "better" matchup than Michigan from a team speed standpoint. That said, MSU will not play as undisciplined as Michigan did

Yup. Pretty much agree with that statement. Which means few power play opportunities for the Gophers which is one area they actually do pretty good on scoring wise :). However, they aren't all that great at 5 on 5. :(.

we didn’t do very well with it last year either, when we had 4 1st round draft picks. Hopefully the different roster makeup we have now is better suited and we can at least stay afloat, but I have really low expectations for this weekend.
I think MSU’s players from 2023, when we ran up a 5-0 record on them with a 31-5 total score, have all moved on now so at least there’s no grudge factor to speak of. And Nightingale kept his team very composed and clean in their series vs. Michigan
Valid points here about playing styles and previous struggles. I am not certain that applies to this team. I think this team is so inconsistent it is hard to say what style they may or may not struggle against. Last weekend was like watching two completely different teams with different styles of play. Maybe that is part of the issue? What IS the identity of this team. We don't have enough big tough gritty guys to be that, but played more that way Saturday. We don't have the 'flash' of previous teams to get into track meets and win. We don't play the trap well enough to be a trap team. Pick something maybe? What are the strengths of this team at their best. Do that. I am not blaming the coaches really or the players but they need to come together and finish out this season with some sort of identity. I could be way off, just a thought.

There were people speculating he may portal out when the year is over. I think he knows how sweet of a gig he has here and isn’t going anywhere. Nowhere near good enough to play for Minnesota, yet still gets minutes. His options are play 7th D minutes here or go d3 basically.

Bob did the same thing with Carl Fish and I was going crazy with how little anybody talked about Fish being totally overmatched in D1 hockey.
Last year he played just 8 early season games for Providence after he grad transferred there. When he was a senior here, Fish got Rinzel as his D partner most nights!
