This hockey team has zero discipline. Not only do our players lack talent, they lack hockey sense and toughness.
That is on the coach for his recruiting. Are we allowed to criticize yet @frozen4champs?
Paging Mark Coyle… what is happening on the ice this year is a complete embarrassment to what Gopher hockey is.
looking at scores around the country tonight, I don’t think we’re even going to overtake OSU in the B1G standings this year.
The most frustrating part is knowing that a sudden turnaround is not going to happen. It’s going to be a really long year+
They cannot keep trotting out Lamb and Clark on the penalty kill. We have to try something else.
Might be the most U-G-L-Y game I’ve seen. Must respond in a big way tomorrow.
Someone mentioned Frazee earlier, shame on you for conjuring that. 😂
We couldn’t buy a goal though and just seem to give up when we don’t have a lead.
I hate this feeling. ☹️

The worst part is next season doesn’t look any better. These defensemen are not good. And the forwards aren’t much better.
Erik Pahlsson doesn’t have one ounce of finishing ability in his body. It’s crazy actually
I was thinking this same thing. Bob has a lot of problems on this team. not just the Friday night suck but Capitol D for defense, weak around the net, both ends, but the goal our D got beat, It was #5 Rombach, sucked the wind out of them. I think it was their 2nd goal. All downhill after.

do you want a ladder?
Rud and McLaughlin are hardly division one talents. Massive recruiting failure from Bob.
How did it get this bad!? Wtf happened between February of 2022 when the team decided to get their act together and go on a run all of the way to the Frozen Four to now? There were frustrating losses in that stretch every year when we had much better teams but those were talented and good teams that maybe had an off night. What in holy Hanna has happened to this program in the past eight months!? Did that QF B1G tournament loss to ND really mess with their heads that much? Other than that solid recruiting run in August there has been so little to look to for positives since last March. Now we just get to watch a bunch of untalented individuals out on the ice together who only do one thing as a collective and that’s give up. Give up on the coaches, give up on each other, give up on the fans, and give up on the M. Never in all my years have I seen a more soft and fragile hockey team. Maybe Bob and Miller have completely lost the locker room? Maybe the captain’s aren’t respected? The guys say all of the right things but then they go out and lose 6-2 to Long Island. LONG! F$CKING! ISLAND!
There. Told myself I wasn’t going to post an emotional rant and yet here I am. I’m going to go to the gym and blow off some steam. After all, this too shall pass.
Bob always takes about being a caretaker of the program. That he is only there for a short amount of time in a long and storied tradition. I just hope when it’s time, he realizes it’s time.
Erik Pahlsson doesn’t have one ounce of finishing ability in his body. It’s crazy actually
He is the most passive hockey player I’ve seen suit up in a long time. It’s painful to watch
Glad I peeked at the score before I watched.
HOLY fuck.
Bob REALLY shit the bed by not going after CHL players. He better be in the mix this year because this is grade A F-up that you could see coming from a mile away. And the lack of recruiting last year just amplifies the smell.
This is not a good team. They are mediocre at best. What makes it impossible to argue against this claim is the power play and penalty kill rankings. They are as bad as you can get. They had a power play tonight against another mediocre at best team in which they could not even get the puck in the zone.
They don't have a sharp shooter who can score goals. They don't have a puck moving defenseman who can put up points. They do not have an elite goal tender who can win games.
If you look at the top half to 2/3 of their roster, I don't think they have "bad" players. Just that all of the forwards are 6th forward types (worst player on the 2nd line), and their defense is 3rd-4th type defensemen. Think Brodie Ziemer. Good player, but not the dominant type of forward you are going to compete for a national championship with. He is the guy who SUPPORTS those dominant forwards and you need players like Ziemer to win. Same with the other Brody, Brody Lamb. But when they are the top players on your team, you are mediocre at best.
The real problem for this team is that they really do not have the players that they need to become contenders in the recruiting pipeline. Look at every forward in the recruiting pipeline. Then do the "Beckett Hendrickson Test", that is project their freshman impact to Beckett's. DO you see any forward coming in next season or the following playing at any level higher than that litmus test (it is not meant as an insult to Beckett, just I see him as an average type of playing career). Do we have any Sam Rinzels in the defensive pipeline? I don't see any.
Now, I think that this group of players can improve with some experience, and the entire roster is filled with 3+ year college players that do not have a lot of suddenness in turning pro. The only threat to any of these players leaving early is the transfer portal which could be more damaging to a team like this than ever before in Gopher hockey history.
I wish there was more to be optimistic about.
Shots on goal Gophers 38 to 22
Expected goals Gophers 3.1 to 1.5
Man did Luca have a HORRIBLE game!!!
Goal 1: Rud showing why he’s not a division 1 hockey player
Goal 2: bouncing puck out front, whatever $h!t happens
Goals 3-6: three PP goals and a shot from the d zone. Un-fucking-believable. The special teams is beyond repair. That falls on the coaching staf. Period. Full stop.
I think bob will learn the mistake with the CHL players. I have faith in his talent as a coach.
Do we have any Sam Rinzels in the defensive pipeline? I don't see any.
Ben Geiger and Levi Harper. You could maybe add Broden McArthur to that list.
If Bob comes back next year he better be damn sure he’s the guy to bring them out of this.

I think tBob has the talent as a coach. Does he have the talent to reach this particular team?
Or, maybe, the individuals of the team are listening to him, but there is no gel between each other?
That's what we have to find out.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.

I don't disagree with you for the most part about Rud. There are a couple of other players the same claim can be made against, both forwards and defense.
But, as I have stated many times in this forum, sometimes you have extra players like that. I think every D1 hockey program has.
What it doesn't mean, however, is that these guys need to get regular shifts on the ice. Axl and Max, even when they are dressed as "extras" do not NEED to get regular ice time. The same for several of the 4th line forwards.
I almost wish he would have sent a message by pulling DPQ even on goal 6–maybe even goal 7–tell them that they need to wear the skates for 60 minutes or you’re out.

No idea why he didn’t get yanked after the 4th one. It’s like Bob even gave up.
I don’t think it was that. I think it was bit like a manager leaving a pitcher that’s blown it in to get himself out of the inning. I also don’t think the message was to only Luca, but the entire team.
Bob did not expect so many guys to leave after last season. How can you effectively plan ahead for that? It’s not like you’re going to over-recruit and tell half of them yeah you might not have a spot on the team pending who does or doesn’t stay.
I do think we have talent, but the grit, hard work and don’t give up attitude doesn’t seem to be there most of the time. They get frustrated too easily and it shows.
Despite outshooting LIU it still felt like there was too much passing. Guys in the slot with one defender between them and goalie not taking a shot.
I don’t have the answers. Probably why they haven’t called me yet to take over as coach. 😁

I suspect it was because Airey is starting tomorrow and down 4-1 he didn't want Airey to get hung out to dry with our defensemen pinching trying to come back from down 4-1. Yes the same thing could happen to Luca but he caused a lot of the problems tonight so he gets to eat it tonight similar to when a manager leaves in a pitcher even after giving up a bunch of runs to save other pitchers for the next game.

Gee, I don’t know, maybe dip into the giant new player pool that conveniently just became available this year. This was quite literally the best offseason ever to replace large amounts of points.
Also I’m sorry but I don’t buy the “Bob didn’t see it coming” stuff. If I could see Chesley, Wood and the Blackhawk guys signing then so should Bob. The only one that caught me off guard was Kurth.
THE only Minnesota sports team (Men) that’s worth following and they’re straight pig shit. Can’t wait for the usuals to chime in and say we’re fine (young) you’re overreacting. Pathetic
The Bob postgame on the radio was baffling. He seemed content with the effort and said it just got away from them. Did not seem concerned at all. Also didn’t help that Wally through a softball question about how well John Mittelstadt is playing even though he’s a 4th liner and has no impact on the game.
Penn State a team that went the Canadian route has been out scored 14-2 over their last three games. Grabbing Canadians may not be the great recipe people think it is.
If Bob comes back next year he better be damn sure he’s the guy to bring them out of this.
lmao. There is zero chance he gets canned for one bad season.
I know he won’t, I’m not suggesting he will or should. No AD in the country would can Bob after one bad season if they were in Coyle’s shoes. The ball is in Bob’s court entirely. Gut it out til the end of his contract in 2028 or hang it up early?

Gadowsky has never had to manage the kind of talent and expectations that are on PSU’s shoulders this year. Bob has. [useless what-if, but I also think McKenna would be doing marginally better at Minnesota, at least he wouldn’t be a -250 or whatever his +/- is now]

McKenna looks lost on defense and floats. He’d fit perfectly with this Minnesota team.
It sucks that my favorite team lost tonight but my second favorite team (whoever is playing WisconSIN) got a blow win tonight.
Ohio State went to Madison and beat the BADgers 5-1.

How can you effectively plan? By getting a pulse of your players and the teams that drafted them. You could also use the massive player pool that opened up this summer. You make 800K, you are going to take heat. Him acting shocked about them turning pro is hilarious. Also, it happened in March, not August. He had 6 months to put together a roster.
This hockey team has zero discipline. Not only do our players lack talent, they lack hockey sense and toughness.
That is on the coach for his recruiting. Are we allowed to criticize yet @frozen4champs?
Sure, if it makes you feel better. Up on my high horse with the Airey Family I feel great. Might even ask Pahlsson to join us. Also, I had an awesome view of the Northern Lights the other night from up here. I think I can also see some planets, like Saturn, Mars and Uranus.

Erik Pahlsson doesn’t have one ounce of finishing ability in his body. It’s crazy actually
He is the most passive hockey player I’ve seen suit up in a long time. It’s painful to watch
I can’t express how frustrating it is to watch him play.
Pahlsson was on the ice tonight? I didn’t notice. 😬
This is one of those games you wash the jersey you wore to the game. 😂
I’ve got one other trick up my sleeve to try and break this curse. We’ll see if it works tomorrow.
(And it does not involve rum and cigars). Although a bottle of rum would be pretty handy right now…

Glad somebody pointed this out. I thought the same, absolutely baffling. Just credited LI and said they won playing their game. Arguably the most concerning part of the evening was his lack of concern 10 minutes after the game ended.

If my windmill works, you can thank me.
And no @the-rube it does not involve liquids. 😂😂
Edit; I should add it has nothing to do with jerseys either.
Yeah, I’m sure bob was just fine with the result tonight. Perfectly content.
I thought the radio interview was a coach who was upset who doesn’t have the personality to take out the hose and start flogging his players publicly. the interview was a nothing burger. Standard postgame coaching language “Gotta give them credit. They came out here and played their game perfectly and we didn’t.”

Levi Harper is literally having a historic season in the OHL so far
@mikeeruzione11 Were you at tonights coaches talk? I know you were last year. You could have easily confronted Bob tonight will all of your concerns to his face.

The Gophers were a lock to make the NCAA tournament the year Lucia mutually stepped down. This team is far worse than that team was. Of course Bob and the AD can both be replaced.
