Got a little nervous when LIU scored those two quick goals. Atrocious non-call on the Mooney trip, by the way. Good to see the response in the 3rd. Like others have said power play looked way better last night. And I’ve been critical of Bob and still have concerns, but if people are booing him that is strictly bush league.

I can't fault college players for leaving early when there's money on the table.  In general, your stock will be highest your junior year, so if the opportunity is there to go make money, then take it.  Yes, maybe you have a stellar senior year, but a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.  Plus, look at the roster, it's clear this team wouldn't compete this year.

-- I wish Gruba would shoot more from the point. He has a rocket.

-- Mooney is so fun to watch when he has the puck.

I'm confused about Gruba - I don't really follow the USHL that much, but it seemed like he was a offensive machine there. It really hasn't translated to college however (as far as I can tell).

Watching Mooney skate around reminds so much of Cooley. Also has a huge agitation factor, but seems to have no fear about letting his alligator mouth write that checks that his hummingbird a-- might not be able to cash

The best thing I saw on the power play last night was when Mooney just took puck and skated it into the offensive zone --- none of that back pass stuff --- I hate that and it seems just to kill any momentum you're obtaining as you take the zone.

A few are decidedly upset about the outcome.

There does seem to be a disgustingly large contingent of obviously miserable people that have come out of the woodwork this year that only seem to show up to whine/complain/etc.  There are certainly several that have been complaining loudly that are here for both good and bad and that I can at least respect.

Has there been plenty to complain about so far this year?  Of course.  But, the ones that only complain?  The site would be better off without them.

Sorry that some of us didn’t come on here last week waving the pom poms after sweeping a God awful Notre Dame team. Sweeping Notre Dame and Long Island would’ve told us nothing about this team.

With the split this weekend though, it just shows they are still the team that got dog walked by their biggest in state rival and then got dog walked again a week later by arguably the universities biggest rival.

We aren’t miserable. Some of us just spend a lot of money (Season Tickets) and time on this program and expect some level of return of investment. Especially at a program like Minnesota. And that return of investment should start with the head coach fielding a competitive roster to start the season.

Do you get more return on your investment by only enjoying wins that are against top teams?

I can’t speak for everyone, but I assume most people here prefer speculating about potential National Championship runs.  Or about how great it was when the Gophers sweep a rival at their own rink.  Some people just troll, because they are trolls.  Some people only post when they feel that something is either historically great or biblically bad.  The Gophers started horribly and no one was happy about it and many voiced their displeasure.  Over the last two weeks they have shown some signs of improvement.  Yes, the opponents weren’t top teams but it’s still improvement.  It’s going to be a long season and if this team can be playing competitive hockey against top level teams at the end of the year I will take it after how the start of the season went.  Go Gophs!

it’s true. I too have season tickets and only count wins against top 10 teams by 4 or more. It’s very fulfilling

think this is about the exact same as my feeling on this team. Hoping they’re laying the groundwork for some really good long term contributors that Bob adds to in the offseason

Yeah, Notre Dame is a bad team, was that win something to pound chests over, of course not.  But how about winning at a very good North Dakota team?  I think the best you had to say there about the team was "they showed some good heart" (your sole post about the win, vs 3 or 4 complaining about the night before). Hardly being positive.  Seems to be the pattern that matches exactly what I'm talking about.  Subdued or even silent when things go well.  Swarm like roaches as soon as things turn bad.

Yeah, I pay a lot of money for my season tickets too.  And for the (usually multiple) road trips I go on pretty much every year.  Am I happy with the way this season is going? Of course not.  But, I'll hype up the good when it happens (admittedly little of that this year) as well as discussing the bad.

Notre Dame has played three Big Ten series this season.

Michigan outscored Notre Dame 7-4 (Michigan took 5 points)

Gophers outscored the Irish 7-1 (Gophers took 6 points)

Michigan State outscored Notre Dame 7-2 (Michigan State took 6 points)

The Gophers had a better result against Notre Dame then what so far have been the two best teams in the Big Ten. Holding ANY opponent to one goal over two games is noteworthy.

Obviously, everybody is entitled to their opinion but discounting how well the Gophers played last weekend because it was against Notre Dame IMO sets you up to almost always be disappointed because you are only happy when they get a big win against a top opponent.

I find being a sport fan is A LOT more fun when I enjoy ANY win no matter who it is against but to each their own.

I think it's a little much to say one "expects a return on investment" when it comes to season ticket purchases...  If you have that stance, you're taking it too seriously.  Not only that, but they have no obligation to us as season ticket holders--they aren't a publicly traded company.

...That being said, I agree that it's hard to watch them this season and I wish I got a better return on my investment.

Should be noted that last year, after nearly being swept at home by Lindenwood, Wisconsin clawed their way back up to 17-18th in pairwise late before running into us at Mariucci, which led to their wheels coming off. OSU got swept by Dartmouth and by us but still finished top-10. It’s not over yet

Last season Penn State lost their first 8 Big Ten games (7 of the 8 were in regulation) getting out scored 39-21 while being swept by the Gophers, Wisconsin, Michigan and Ohio State. In their 9th Big Ten game they tied Notre Dame losing the shoot out so they picked up 2 of 27 conference points.

Over their last 15 Big Ten games they went 9-3-3 picking up 31 of 45 points. They did run into the Gophers to end the regular season losing a home series 4 points to 2 points which gave the Gophers a share of the Big Ten title.

They ended up in the Frozen Four.

I had been holding back on commenting on the insane amount of self-entitlement that's been on display here of late but "the return on my investment" remark was enough to seal the deal.  😀

Might only be surpassed by those that clearly have it in for tBob and will look for any reason to blame him for gas prices and the awful string of MCU movies that have come out the past few years.

Since you were looking at my old posts you could’ve went back to last year’s team when I was full of praise before they face planted. That obviously wouldn’t fit the narrative though that you are trying to push.

I have different expectations for supporting a blue blood program. I’m not going to get too excited about them picking up some wins by punching down in competition.

Penn State is the test now. Let’s hope they don’t get outclassed, embarrassed, and quite frankly bitched slapped like they have so many times this season against worthy competition. I’ll try to find the positives though.

Ok this might be a long post so please bear with me. If you skim it, I hope you get the gist of it. I used the word “expect” because I support Gopher hockey. Not, oh let’s go with Lake Superior State. If I was a Lake Superior State season ticket holder I would temper expectations because a National Championship is most likely never coming their way. I don’t see how that is entitlement.

I know you’re trying to be funny but I’m so glad you brought up the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe for those wondering). We all make decisions on what to do with disposable income. You don’t need to call it an investment if you don’t want to. I’m going to call it that though. The investments you make, you weight the benefits and rewards of said thing you’re investing in.

So, if recent MCU movies have sucked you will probably pass on the next one that comes out because the “investment” of your time and the 20 dollar ticket plus concessions isn’t worth it. You will just wait to watch it on Disney+.

This response got me thinking though. If I continue to donate to Dinkytown Athletes and choose hockey, would I have an actual investment? Could we claim ownership like Green Bay Packers fan do?

I feel that, "my investment" (if one can call it that) has brought me far, far more enjoyment than not through the 50-plus years of watching/attending/donating albeit the middle part has been next to impossible since moving here in 2014.

And while I expect more on the whole from this program than what is currently happening this season I don't feel entitled to anything, and unless they were to do something grossly out of pocket I will never abandon them.  That includes sometimes watching games at ungodly hours because of the time difference and inability to record and watch whenever I choose.

In fact during the last run to the championship game I made 100% sure that a planned trip to Bangkok and Myanmar would not interfere with my ability to watch the regional final from the Philippines, the FF semi from Bangkok and the FF final from Yangon.

Yeah recently mistakes have been made but Gophers hockey doesn't exist within just a 1-2 or even 3 year time period.  They will bring it back as they always have.  I'm not even against the idea that it's possibly time for Bob to go.

People should spend their money how they choose.  I will never begrudge that ever.  People should legitimately critique when it's warranted.  Nothing I've said has anything to do with what I would agree are legitimate choices people may or may not make.  I simply find some of the, "I'm owed something" commentary to be something I'm not on board with.

I'll leave it at that I think I need to try and ignore some of this more often moving forward.  I don't even visit game threads while the game is happening anymore because of it.

There’s another side to this coin though. People on here who followed the offseason closely made their remarks on how it could be a rough season based on how things were looking and were almost always met with clap backs from you bashing their negativity. Well, now the early returns are here and it looks like those people may have had a point.

Again, I’ve defended Bob for years on here but if the way the offseason played out didn’t at least raise an eyebrow, you might be a little lost in the sauce (as the kids say).

I never "clapped back" on the possibility it was going to be a rough season, but rather again towards the sense of entitlement that fans were owed nothing less than another run to the FF.  Que sera sera I already said I'm going to ignore the mentality moving forward.
