Was not upset. It was my thought on the Gophers playing most of the third period in their own zone with difficulty getting the puck out. They lost too many face offs which allowed Ohio to keep the pressure on. Seemed the Gophers were on their heels a tad more. Was thinking a bit tired from the screwy Denver trip & quick turn around. VERY impressed with the disciplined play.
The Gophers have scored on 11.5 % of their shots which is tied for 8th in the country. If they continue to improve on getting the puck out of their own zone that level of offensive efficiency will likely result in some nice wins against top teams in the second half of the season.
This team has more talent than a lot of people think. The problem is this team has some holes that got exploited early in the season and with 10 of the 14 forwards being underclassmen (5 freshmen and 5 sophomores) they weren't ready yet to offset enough of the down moments in games.
Lately we aren't having as many down moments and are starting to mature as a team where we can response better when we do. In each of the last two games our opponent tied the game in the third period but even on the road we responded right back to win both games.

Agreed. I had to update to see NPI where the PWR used to be. Even after doing so it still shows the Gophers 36th, though. However if I go to their website and enter in today’s date, I can see the jump up to 29th.

I do think with back to back games (this being shorter rest than usual with a 530 start) this isn’t the worst idea. Having a goalie with fresh legs for the second game and allowing to be at their full athletic potential could have some upside. I think LDP probably has the higher upside of the two from what I’ve seen so far (same with Souliere last year) so I get where you’re coming from. It’s more just a calculation of whether you get the max out of him two nights in a row. If there was a day off in between or if you had Trey Augustine then obviously that’d change things a tad but I can maybe see where Motzko is coming from here.
edit: 5:00 start*, I had it set to record but I might just watch it while I bike at the gym
the app went through an update today and I don’t think it’s all sorted out yet as I still get messages popping up when I open it saying it can’t download all files. 🤷♀️

Pahlsson looks like he hurt his left finger/wrist/hand. We will see if he can play the rest of the game. That was a situation where he had to realize it was 1 on 4 and just dump it. Dancing on the blue line is going to get you hit like that.
Another example of the Gophers being able to weather the storm better (only goal given up going in off of Rombach's skate) and then responding by scoring twice in a little over a minute.
Moe with his 5th goal and Pritchard with his 4th goal.
Mooney and Moore each have 4 goals.
For comparison Freshmen season
Kurth 7 goals, Jimmy Clark 5 goals, Rhett Pitlick 5 goals, Lamb 4 goals
This year's freshmen class is in process of passing the goal production of the guys mentioned above.
Really nice play by Moore there. Slick pass from Mooney as well on the other goal. Strange how this team lately gets dominated for long stretches, hangs in there, makes a couple of nice plays and gets ahead.

Airey with an absolute gift to OSU. Not sure how you fail to get to the far post on such an obvious wraparound. His lack of puck handling skills are also very apparent compared to Di Pasquo in this game.

The batteries in all 4 OSU controllers died right as Mooney went in for the kill, lol. Even Ludtke got left open for a tap-in if LJ wanted it, no idea what the Buckeyes were thinking there.
PK woes continue. Cover the man or cover the passing lane, either works; just pick one! Instead of neither like we’ve been doing.

Not going to excuse our terrible PK, but that is some pretty bad puck luck for the puck to ricochet by the bench during that change to warrant a too many men.
This penalty kill is just mind numbingly bad. Miller that’s one YOU. The so-called PK genius has two forwards chasing the puck up high. It boggles the mind. A monkey could coach a better PK.
Also, that penalty likely doesn’t get called if Lamb hit the goalie’s pad with his shot, rather than hitting the glass and out the zone.
That kind of mental lapse in shot selection always drives me crazy. It should be 2nd nature to shoot for the rebound if you can’t shoot to score in that moment.
