I liked the way the team competed in the second half of the Saturday BC game. I hope they keep competing like that. If so the growing pains for this young team will be less intense.

For those living out of state, what are the options for watching this weekend? I know NCHA.TV has a monthly pass as well as game passes, but is there a cheaper option with Fox and their app since the games aren't on B10+ this weekend?
How good is North Dakota look from what little sample piece we have from the first two weeks of the season? Bucci has them at like #2 or #3 after this weekend and we didn’t even make his list. Not that he’s the be all and end all of college hockey rankings.

There is an option for a 24hr day pass. The key is to buy it just before the game starts Friday night at 7pm. Since the next game starts at 6pm on Saturday. Since that game STARTS within the 24 hours it will play in it's entirety. So the single $16.95 pass works great for both games.

they're a solid, top 10-15 team. don't think they have enough scoring to be in the top 5 category, but they should contend in the NCHC and have a team that should be able to wear down their opponents. To me they should actually be a lot better next year as compared to this year and I'd expect they'll be better in the 2nd half compared with now. They got outplayed for some stretches vs UST on Sunday
Expect a very physical series as per usual with them trying to grind on us. will be another trial by fire for our young defensemen, which they got a taste of last weekend and responded well from Fri vs Thurs imo. Their PP looked pretty good overall
Feels like a split weekend most likely, but sweep in either direction wouldn't surprise me with being more likely for UND than MN of course.

His rankings can often be pretty reactionary, and he's all about the hype around the sport... Just look at his broadcasting "chops"
UND lost a lot of scoring from last year's team, and it's yet to be seen if they have truly replaced it...
They beat up on the Tommies, which isn't exactly surprising, it's not like they took some massive leap from being the team the Gophers dispatched without much flinching last year, I think they're actually being a bit prematurely hyped as a program at this point. They're going to need the CCHA autobid to get a tournament shot.
I think of course you expect a split out of the weekend in the end, I don't think either team is going to be above the other talentwise at this very moment.

That era was peak Sue goonery. That and starting fights in the handshake line, coach flipping the bird, etc. They lost some of that edge under Berry, will be interested if that play style tries to make a comeback under Jackson.

as to (1), maybe the Pony Express just hasn’t delivered news of recent Gopher commits up to Grand Forks yet; (2) is nonsensical to say about a coach who won gold at WJC, and stamped out all of the worst Lucia-era habits of high-end Gopher players
I checked out the pioux sports forum just now for the first time in years. It's wonderful to see those magnificent bastards haven't lost even an ounce of delusion or ass-hattery. The world still spins because of it.
My all-time conversation with a UND fan was at a Final 5 when I worked the event. We had a short discussion on the Sioux mascot. He told me if the NCAA makes UND lose the Sioux name, they'll stop drilling for oil in North Dakota in protest. My reply was very short with me saying something like "I'm sure the oil companies will laugh at you".
Sioux fans do not actually pay attention to the rest of college hockey like you would anticipate such a fan base to do. It's a very weird thing I've noticed from going to a handful of games up there over the past few years.

Yeah, they obviously have the only hockey team that's worth paying attention to, so even thinking about what their opponents are doing/have done is clearly a waste of time, because no useful information can be included in anything so silly, right? RIGHT???

I should add the caveat that news does matter as long as it's the NCHC doing something good in the NCAA tournament so them getting bounced in the first round feels less bad some how...
Who has the bigger Pioneers fanbase in March and April? Denver or Grand Forks? Gotta be close.
Crazy to think we went up there and shut them out with Freshmen Rud & Begley playing a regular shift two years ago. Koster, Nevers and I believe one other forward were out up front too. Close masterclass. Need Airey to channel some of that this weekend.
I've been watching North Dakota for over 50 years. One common denominator is they always SHOOT and CRASH the net. If Coach Motzko plays Airey he better control his rebounds? North Dakota will whack at the puck even when the goalie has it covered. Not crazy about NCHC Officials, especially if the allow all the after the whistle BS. I would be very happy with a split.
I think you gotta move Ludtke up the lineup this weekend. Cant bury him on the third line. I loved that pickup over the summer and I’ll admit he’s started off a little slow but he’s still getting back into game shape after essentially being off for a whole year.
I liked the look of that Ziemer-Ludtke-Mooney line the first weekend. Hendrickson-Pahlsson-Pritchard I thought established a nice identity along the walls and below the dots. Which leaves either Moore or Falloon with Clark-Lamb. I’d give Falloon a chance there. He forechecks hard and has a scoring touch that we haven’t really seen yet but he definitely had in the USHL.

While I’m not that concerned where U put him in terms of what line, Lamb needs to be on the 1st power play unit & he needs to score goals. If that’s not the case, it could be a tuff year offensively. Mooney is FUN to watch, but the veteran players need to steer the bus!

hard to draw much for conclusions from the lines/game sampling so far. clearly javon moore took being put on the 4th line as a bit of a wakeup call imo. forward lines have overall the look of a couple guys being good pairs together but not really knowing who your last add is. I do like Ludtke with Zeimer and Mooney. Need finishers to play with Mooney as he is going to create. I wouldn't mind seeing Moore with Pahlsson-Pritchard as a heavy/hard forecheck line but you have to convince Moore to hit like Pritchard does with Pahlsson being a balanced set up guy around the net front. Hendrickson I actually like quite a bit with Lamb and Clark as think they match speed wise pretty well and he's willing to do the dirty work to get the forecheck rolling. I'm sure it'll be another blender game as its sure seemed like Bob has done ever since he had the easiest job in the world during the Cooley year setting the lineup.
The D pairs are probably much more important this weekend imo. Do you divide your senior pairing and try to protect the younger guys more knowing you can't match lines as the road team? UND will forecheck hard so to me have to pair a puck mover and someone physical as the D starting the breakout is going to be imperative.
