With Ludtke being out, maybe with mono. If so, mono is a crazy virus. I had it in Jr. High was out of school for a week or so. My sister had it 2 years after me and was out of school for nearly 2 months, had to go the hospital for treatments.
I put it up there with concussions… It affects everyone differently. I’ve mentioned it before, but I’ve had several concussions from football and a couple of minor accidents. Drove a 4-wheeler off a cliff and in car accident. Really had no side effects at that time that I remember, but now I’m having side effects from it. Especially with depth perception.

my spleen became swollen, my liver got boxed, I became jaundiced and couldn’t eat anything and lost like 20 lbs. I had intractable itching thanks to my liver enzymes. Literally thought I was dying.
Last night they gave up 3 short handed goals and went 0-4 on the power play play, they out shot Long Island 38-22 this is going to be a long strange season

Sadly I don't think effort is really the issue in most of these games, you could probably even argue they outplayed LIU and got a bit unlucky. The problem is what mlhouse described, this team lacks the pieces needed to beat good teams and even against bad and mediocre teams they have their work cut out and don't look vastly more talented. The most talented forward on the team is a freshman and some of the upper classmen and sophomores who weren't great to begin with just haven't improved at all (not talking about Lamb, he's been solid). The D has one guy who could reasonably be on a 2nd pairing of a good gopher team and I wasn't the only one who asked during the offseason who was going to lead the PP or provide tangible offense from the blue line. Add in a goalie who is either great or terrible any given night and you have a team that could lose to just about any NCAA team under the right circumstances.This team still has a roster spot available. Showing some effort would be nice. Put some pressure on other players too.
As much as I'd like to see the team give a perfect effort every game it's just not realistic, on a 20 man roster you might have a couple guys struggle and have an off night, some of these guys have lives and went out drinking Thursday or Friday etc. There's just zero margin for error which should never be the case for a gopher hockey roster, especially in the current era where you have more options to improve it.

I’m 99% sure you have to add players at the semester unless they’re already enrolled like a club player could be already taking classes joining the team, this isn’t the ECHL.

I imagine based on the experiences of injuries and illness last year, the 26th spot was left open so that we could fill it with the appropriate personnel, pending what we needed (if) needed in an injury scenario. The game continues to get a bit more physical over time, and injuries keeping guys out for several weeks more common (at least it seems that way to me).
If they can change the rule of not allowing a new player to come in if you have 26 and lose someone for the season, then keeping a spot open probably becomes irrelevant. 🤷♀️

What the NCAA should adopt is a modified medical redshirt rule. It would allow teams to replace any player who gets injured and is out for the year. The player must stay out for the year for this to happen and stay in school. You could only add a player at the semester break. I'm more concerned about injuries to goalies like when Bob grabbed a practice goalie from the club team a couple of years ago to help out. Now, if God forbid a goalie gets hurt and you are at 26 players, you are screwed. Maybe a special rule for the goalie position as well allowing a team to always have 3 healthy goalies. Since the NCAA is the Wild West now, anything is possible I guess.

Frankly the House settlement is screwing hockey with its 26-man cap, and doing it so badly that I question whether anyone who knows anything about college puck was even involved when they made these broad sweeping rules. 26 (functionally 25) is absurd.
With 15F + 8D + 3G, a team with 2 players at WJC and 2-3 guys on the IR at that time is now unable to dress a full lineup. Both are conservative figures for WJC and injuries, imo.
If nothing changes they have to start bringing in some fringe D1/D3 players on plausibly deniable arrangements, who are willing to enroll and play club until needed due to injuries.
Mankato is in a pinch now with injuries, right now as it sits they might be skating down one player this weekend. So far they have two players gone for the season and a possible third. That will make the rest of the season tough without the ability to replace the roster spot with the 26 man cap.

Michigan Tech having a large roster size was mentioned on the TV broadcast earlier this season when we played them. College Hockey News shows them with 32 players (19 forwards, 9 defensemen, and 4 goalies).

It was discussed a while back maybe in another thread, but BU also declined to opt-in. Probably an easy choice for them to make since BU doesn’t play football and barely plays MBB.

To me there are 63 teams with 26 players on each team. That’s roughly 1,638 players. If it’s split even amongst freshman, sophomores, etc there should be 400 players leaving and 400 players entering college hockey every year. Why is it crazy to him that there are 250 new players this year?

He is referring to the 250 Canadian players that were newly eligible this year.
Does anyone know what the plan with McLaughlin is? I felt when he came in that his pedigree in the USHL projected him to be a solid 2nd/3rd pair guy.
Right now he isn’t playing nearly enough minutes to develop at all because when he does play he’s incredibly mistake prone. I personally would vote just to rip the bandaid off and throw him into 3rd pair minutes. How much worse than Rud or Begley could he realistically be? Plus you’ll theoretically need him to assume a bigger role next year (I still think there’ll be some shakeup there that we don’t know about).

In reality, he is really only playing 5 while dressing 7. The last game McLaughlin played 2 minutes and Begley had 5:26. The game before Begley had 6:45 and Rud had 5:16. I think if Falloon was healthy, he would be the extra forward. Not saying your take on Rud and Begley are not wrong. I think they are ok in the 7th d role. I still have hope for McLaughlin.

I try not to imagine it. He played fast and physical, which would have been welcomed against the older physical team they faced in Tampa. Could it have made a 1 goal difference? I would have liked to run the experiment.

Lamb was presumably brought in early to offset the unexpected Broz departure. Why didn’t we just offer Cruikshank a 5th year? Now Lamb can come in on time and they don’t need to rush Clark either. Boom, problem solved. Remember how good Cruikshank was on Cloud that year too? Imagine him on that 2023 team.

I’m like 95% sure that we did for a stretch during the Olympics, while Meyers and Knies were away. Our forward group that year was pretty congested for much of the regular season, then sparse during said Olympics. I do remember our penalty kill was really good with Cruikshank on it.
Does anyone remember who Cruikshank's mom was? Feel like I never heard it mentioned on any broadcast while he played here.
