Bob didn't know the player was in the portal and even said "yeah, I should look into the portal."

this is my biggest issue! You can’t take the wait and see mindset in this era of college athletics. You are going to get left behind real quick and are essentially playing with one hand tied behind your back. Just a coach set in his ways from previous success and potentially letting his ego get in the way.

this has nothing to do with Bob’s ability to coach, he may have created a hill that he has no ability to climb with coaching alone.

Maybe we just need a GM

i have been a staunch supporter of the last part for a long while. simple concept. they can see the roster management, work with the coach for when guys are coming in and keep tabs on players who may be leaning towards leaving early while maintaining relationships with NHL GMs/execs (so they keep their guys with us longer where we can) while handling scouting relationships here and abroad. Coach still gets final say with film review and connection with the player, but my god this is a simple way to offload an incredible amount of work, inject some young blood into the program (my preference would be a former player, but a person who's done long-term scouting also works), and also prep for the future/long term pipeline as a GM can continue onward even when Bob retires.

Has been brought up to Bob before and he was against it prior, but this should be a massive advantage a blue blood type program has. Unsure where he'd sit on it now as you're limited on number of employees the team can have and they've wanted to keep it as is, but if we're not even going to scratch at some of these other leagues nor do the portal calling, you're just making it harder on yourself than it needs to be

Would love it as well. I would think Bob is still against it, but maybe someone can layout the potential advantages to him and sway his opinion. Again, he needs to be more willing to adapt.

I gotta imagine if this season continues along similar lines there will be some type of changes, what you guys describe certainly wouldn't be a bad idea. It reminds me of the days where some NFL head coaches also wanted to be the GM and have full control over everything and it rarely worked, it was just too much for one person to handle. In college that's closer to the norm but I think offloading some of that work would be beneficial, I believe other programs like UND do this? Given that this is a B1G school that in theory has the resources to have a more professional sports program that seems like a reasonable change. Regardless of what happens with Motzko they should be doing that anyhow.

I think it’s the kicker that it removes a paid assistant you can have which was part of Bobs issue, but id say its a substantially important part to where you should be willing to sacrifice an assistant role for this in today’s game

North Dakota does this--and I only know that because the North Dakota broadcasters interviewed him when they played the Gophers this year.

@upnorthkid I would nominate the paid assistant in charge of the power play as the sacrificial lamb. Deceitful

Uh yeah, that seems like an obvious one. Even last year it wasn’t horrible percentage wise but that’s mainly because it was carried by the talent they had more than it actually operating efficiently.

This whole losing season so far is partly the fans faults! Wink

Not wearing the right lucky sweatshirts or jerseys. Did you ever wonder if you had gone to a game and cheered hard enough if the outcome would change for the better!

Goalies are the most superstitious of the players!

What good luck things do you try to rack up some more goals and wins???

Maroon underwear! 😁
I will often wash a jersey if it was worn to a horrible game.
I wear maroon to work on Fridays and avoid wearing any colors of the team we are playing.

I wouldn’t say any of those are necessarily superstitions, more just routines for game days.  🤷‍♀️

I think my only superstition is I will not have a beer from the opponents' state during the duration of the series; if it is an in-state opponent, I won't have a beer from that area.

Sorry Rube... I think I usually default to drinking the opponent's brew more often than most. Abrasive was the pick this week although I did have a 3Floyds in post production.

I’m in the let’s ride this out and let Bob change his best camp.

But did not like the comment on this weeks podcast “this is the roster we were stuck with”.  Pretty sure that’s a core job responsibility.

Bob not taking accountability for roster management flop. Similar to when he blamed the players for the way they played the 2nd half of the championship game...and then it leaked that it was his gameplan to stop forechecking and go ultra conservative.

Did anyone else notice the pretzels are different this year? They don't seem as tough, maybe I just got one that was not as well done.

What? There is no legally defined reason for 'the crime' of assault otherwise it's not a crime. As it stands we have no idea if Teddy was a physical aggressor, but typically if you are charged with assault it means YOU were the aggressor. Someone talking s**t to you doesn't give you the right to beat the crap out of them.

Now that doesn't mean Teddy is per se innocent in all of this, but the fact he was not charged with any crimes leads me to believe he didn't do anything legally wrong.

Two drunk hockey players talked shit and one assaulted the other to the point he got charged with a serious crime. One of these things is a bit more serious and reprehensible than the other.

I will refer back to the Issac Kolstad thing here in Mankato...turns out Kolstad did run his mouth too while getting the crap beat out of him.  Townsend got lucky that the course of his life wasn't altered like Kolstad.

That's a little extreme. Over the years I've seen plenty of sh*-talking between people at bars, on the street, and such, and cooler heads prevailed and/or people intervened to separate the parties involved.

What proof do you have? There is ZERO proof Teddy did anything wrong. The twitter page is satire, so that proves nothing. Is it in the police report? We all get fooled by social media now and again, and I think that is what happened here. Look at the fake Motzko story from last week as proof.

Bullshit. How soft and mentally fragile does that make the attacker? You've never had someone 'run their mouth' and walked away from it?  On the street? In school? On the field of play?  Surely you approved of ND's actions in the handshake line I guess.

Teddy’s a Gopher so he must be completely innocent and a victim.

I didn’t say Teddy did anything legally wrong.  But you can’t expect to run your mouth in front of some people and not expect to get your ass kicked. Even if the first amendment is on your side, Karma is still a bitch.

Bullshit. How soft and mentally fragile does that make the attacker? You've never had someone 'run their mouth' and walked away from it?  On the street? In school? On the field of play?  Surely you approved of ND's actions in the handshake line I guess.

Wait, what happened in the handshake line? I must’ve gotten up before then, or the camera cut away or something

By ND I was referring to North Dakota.

No issues last night, I think there is confusion between ND Notre Dame and the green team in west grand forks.

Not sure why we are arguing about a non credible twitter report on here yet.

Well one person is arguing that TT deserved to be assaulted for something that isn’t even confirmed and the others… aren’t.

The Gopher Women's team did it this year with Jess Scott.

Who knows what happened, but it is absolutely possible that Townsend instigated the event and still got his ass kicked. Just because he wasn't charged doesn't mean he wasn't equally responsible for what happened. If he wasn't trying to leave the situation, he was likely at just as much fault for the outcome.

why does it matter and why are you so eager to imagine a situation where our own guy somehow deserved to get beaten within an inch of never playing again

Not going to speculate on what actually happened that night, but it is curious to me that the Police department waited 38 days to post the photo of the Hamline hockey player.

Did the Townsend's not want to charge him? Did Teddy not know him from previous hockey? I am assuming he did know him, and would have recognized him in photos afterwards? So maybe they wanted this whole thing to just go away and not make headlines. Who knows.

I'm not eager to do anything, just acknowledging that anything could have happened. I don't put someone on a pedestal just because I like the jersey he wears, if he was acting like a dumbass and got in an altercation then I'm not going to act like he was innocent. We see this attitude in sports, just cause someone is on our team must mean he did not thing wrong. That's foolish.

Like I said before, this whole thing was started by a non credible tweet that someone posted on here. Unless it is reported in the police report, this is complete BS. I'm sure you would not like it if some random person posted something on social media that is not confirmed or true about you or your family. As in this case, it just takes 1 person to believe that post and then it spreads like wildfire. I think we should all just back away and let the courts do its job and leave Teddy out of it until more facts are actually released.

Define innocent in this situation?  Did he 'run his mouth'?  Very well possible and if he did shame, shame, shame.

Now what?
