Proof enough that having a ton of high draft picks guarantees nothing.

Agree... Not trying to sound like sour grapes. Though it's real hard to listen while watching a Michigan game on the BIG. The BIG announcers lovefest for Michigan and all their NHL prospects is sickening. They make John Madden and his lovefest for QBs tame.
Keep your stick on the ice...
It’s Herb Brooks birthday today ?
Aloha!

Youth Hockey Hub interview with Jake Taylor
Well -- a sure sign that I'm starting to get old when I get excited about seeing former players have kids who are starting to make certain teams.

Vanek seems to be a for sure, anyone know if the Dustin and Kohn are also?
Billy Kohn was really active in the Highland association several years ago (when his son first stated mites) and he was a tremendous asset to the assocaiton and a really good guy. Assumed he has since moved to Stillwater.
There was a Geisbauer who played for SCSU around the same time (IIRC) Kohn played at MN.

Kohn was one of the players who worked as an instructor with Diane Ness in Highland. He did some one-on-one training with some future gophers for sure, including Mike Carmen for example. Very good instructor and pleasant guy.

Yes to both Dustin and Kohn. Dustin has a kid on the high school team as well. Also, yes that's the Geisbauer that played at St Cloud

It might be just me but I wouldn't want to continue to be in my Dad's shadow. Clearly Rem has made his own name for himself, let's not compare him to your lackluster coverage 25-30 years ago...

Joe Schmit called Rem "Lance" on the sports today.
I put this in the NHL thread but I suppose it makes more sense here. Cool to see Ranta make a good impression and be rewarded for it.

No Gopher hockey player, past or present played with more heart than Don Micheletti. :club: :club: :club:

COVID
Aloha!
Pat Micheletti was just on KFAN he now has
COVID
As he has had a kidney transplant he is likely immune compromised. Wish nothing but a quick and speedy recovery for him.

Mariucci has likely been the same risk level. Hope he feels better soon.
BTW in case you didn't listen. Pat did TV on Friday night, then woke up in the middle of the night Saturday morning feeling horrible. He's feeling better today although he was very fatigued Sat/Sun. He's been vaccinated and boosted, said he was thankful that it looked like he was going to recover quickly without having to go to the hospital.

Great news, definitely wishing him a speedy recovery.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
So he's been vaccinated and boosted, and still got covid?

Sounds like transplant recipients are at least partially immunocompromised due to the anti rejection medications they must take every day. They were amongst the first vaccine eligible people last winter/spring.
Also cancer patients undergoing chemo treatment. A good friend of mine is undergoing chemo in advance of a potential bone marrow transplant. She has virtually no immune system right now. I worry about her.
Having seen Rem Pitlick play since Mites, it's fun to see him making the most of his chances with the Wild.
Seems to be getting more comfortable and his goal against Dallas last night was well deserved. It's never easy making your way into the NHL and challenges ahead but I really hope he makes. it.
Apologies if I'm not supposed to post this sort of link. Don't post much. Please remove if necessary.
During the Sharks pregame show last night, they had a piece on Paul Martin and his struggles and recovery from substance abuse.

The Carolina Hurricanes have recalled Jack LaFontaine
Well I mean ya lol
Poor Jack. 7-4 so far.
LaFontaine might want to start brushing up on his Swedish or German.
Yeah he might end up in the ECHL pretty fast as bodies come back.
Carolina shoulda tried to sign Close
Everyone knew he was not going to stick in the NHL and that he was not even playing at AHL level this year.
I didn't want it to happen - although I wasn't crazy about how the whole thing went down I don't wish the kid ill - but this is exactly what I thought would happen to Lafontaine. I don't know who could have watched him this year and thought he could play in the NHL right now.
Thought the 02-03 team recognition tonight was seriously lame. It lasted about 2 minutes with no introductions....it was over before it started

To not say the names of those that made it to the game was disrespectful and mind blowing.
Add to that going to a Kanye song after standing and cheering for them instead of a rouser from the band.

Yes, they totally blew it.
My feedback via the survey sent my The U echoed the comments about the "salute" to the 02/03 teams. The whole thing seemed like an afterthought.
