I am guessing since they have no other skaters available he is suiting up as a skater (no goalie equipment). Does he get any playing time? Probably little or none. Michigan is likely going to play three lines and rotate in the 10th forward with the 11th forward (aka third goalie) riding the pine.
They also have 7 defensemen dressed, so they could move one up to fill in a shift or two.

Read that Michigan is skating their 3rd string goalie at wing. Not sure he’ll get a ton of ice time, but that just shows you how thin they are. Crazy how much this virus (if its the same one) is going around.

Second time in 3 years this marquee matchup has a huge asterisk (2 years ago being COVID protocol for the WJC). No matter what happens this weekend, let's make the most of these games.

- no excuses with 1 & 7 out. Mich has it 100 times worse than us
- regardless, no feeling sorry for them. Jump on them early and wear them out.
- we haven’t scored a first period goal since Ohio State. Let’s get on the board early!

In all seriousness, he is likely suiting up as a skater in case Michigan gets into penalty trouble (where multiple forwards are in the penalty box and/or kick out of the game) or they have in game injuries.
As pointed out by frozen4champs they have 7 defensive suited up so one of them would likely play forward before the 3rd goalie.

I think the goalie on the 4th line is simply a paperwork thing. If the game gets out of hand, on either side, I could see him for a shift. No way you let him skate a regular shift. I also think it could be an image thing. Michigan knows the heat they took last year, so they put him down to say " see, this is a different staff and we will do anything to prove we will play".

Gophers can’t lose this game. We’d never hear the end of it. That said, don’t be tools but let’s crush them. Just get the business done and don’t give them any hope.

I agree no excuses but since Michigan has 5 guys out and we have 2 guys out my engineering side says they only have it 2.5 times worse. ? ?

What is it with a ref who thinks he's bigger than the game? Good grief that was so bad. They called a penalty against Middlestadt for doing exactly what every defenseman is coached to do.

If we keep possessing the puck like we have been and force Michigan to defend, they will get tired. If it’s tied going into the third don’t fret. It will open up in the third.
