its really hard to compare Ovi's scoring vs the prior era. Goalies are VASTLY better as is the equipment and the strategy is much different. Gretzky played a big bulk of his career in the era where teams averaged 4 G/g and only played 4 seasons where they were under 3 G/g. Ovi has only played 7 seasons where the G/g has been over 3 (and is part of why his scoring has seemingly not dropped at all is the rule changes and OT changes here on the last few years because of how low the scoring has gotten). Some of the more modern guys may get up there if they keep the rules this way (don't think Matthews will stay healthy enough to catch them in scoring; McDavid I think will get up to 2nd in points provided he can stay healthy).
Speaking of health, actually a super under appreciated part of Ovi's game with how physical he is that he's stayed healthy enough to do this. Very few years he isn't playing the majority of games which goes a long way in making this possible

I completely agree - he has the record for most 40 goal seasons (13) & is tied with both Bossy & Gretzky for most 50 goal seasons (9).
Also, Ovechkin had not one but two seasons affected by lockouts, 04-05 (82) & 12-13 (34); and if you include the abbreviated covid season 20-21 (which was only 56 games long) you’re looking at close to 150 games where he only would’ve needed to score 27 goals in that time to pass Gretzky.

Jaxon Stauber got a call up by Utah and pitched a shutout against Vegas on Saturday (first game since Feb 23, 2023).
Hopefully he can get a few more starts.
I don't know why Chicago never game him a real shot, their goaltending (and rest of the team) wasn't very good. He had a 2.81 GAA and .911 sv% with them. Instead, their 'starters' posted worse stats... Mrazek was 3.66 and .894 Stalock was 3.01 and .908, and Soderblom got 15 starts and was 3.45 and .894. And Stauber has had the highest quality start percentage (albeit in a small sample size of 4 quality starts in 6 games played). But for some reason they buried him in the minors and never game him a real shot. On a 26-49-7 team that have a -97 goal differential.
I guess when you are actively trying to lose to get the #1 pick, you don't want to think about upgrading your goaltending. Stick with the ones who are struggling. But they never gave him a chance after they got Bedard either.
It'd be fun to see him be a regular NHL goalie.
