Absolutely. They looked like a completely different team during that period. Need to dig deep here in the third to see this game out. Ideally they get one more goal and put this thing away.

That was an entertaining game, been a while since I could say that 😆. Great way to break the losing streak and the dreaded skunks shoved into popcorn boxes are now on a losing streak of their own, tomorrow should be interesting.

the guys were just having fun with it by the end and that was a relief to see. Maybe LDP will get a second chance at the empty net tomorrow 🙏
Typically I wish goalies wouldn't play the puck and just stay in the net but he's actually really good at it and actually benefits from the college rules that allow goalies to play the puck more.That was an entertaining game, been a while since I could say that 😆. There’s two types of tough guys in hockey. Actual tough guys and wannabe tough guys. High School and College are mostly wannabes, with maybe a ‘bush league’ thug with the iq of a 9 day old salad bar. The extra curricular activities after the whistle and especially after the stripes step in is laughable. Especially when one player is getting ragged dolled and when the stripes step in, he wants to be a tough guy. Minnesota has had their moments over the years, but UND wrote the handbook for it.

Credit to the wisvonSIN player’s eye and hand coordination. Skating backwards, pivots to go forward and has ability to catch the puck.

a goalie who’s good at arresting dump-ins and getting a breakout going quickly is invaluable though. It was one thing Souliere always did way better than Airey, the ND series aside, and it was really noticeable.
Closer got to be pretty good at it too, I don’t think I ever saw him get into trouble by venturing out from his crease in all his time as our starter

Some random thoughts of tonight
McLaughlin had one of his better games as a Gopher. Much more decisive tonight. Rombach, not so much. But he at least did not make a crippler mistake we've seen from him more than a few times
Mooney is not going anywhere. The kid loves being a pest and seems to love the U. He sure had an awful lot to say to the ref after the penalty (when he came out of the box; was happy he didn't get a misconduct. I have to imagine the stripes saw the replay but then again, it's a Big Ten crew so they never think they're wrong) and did so again after his goal skating back past Hauser. His heart and effort will never be in doubt and his growth through the rest of this year and into next year will be paramount to turning the ship all the way around
Ziemer better be the captain next year.
Javon Moore has such a freakishly good hockey player inside him that whenever he figures it all out, Ottawa is going to be thrilled as will the Gophers for whatever amount of time they still get with him.
Please, please, please work on the side board breakouts and clears. Waaaaay too many soft efforts (think Townsend had 2-3 in one shift and multiple others; had a real hard time with that tonight). Add to that and losing too many faceoffs, again, and it leads to a lot of chasing against any team, even a slower one like Wisconsin.
My last takeaway and the one I hope is most true, but it looked like some guys figuring out what it takes to win tonight. Losing is hard and can be really hard on a psyche. This team hasn't quit (and that's a testament to the leadership group as well as to Bob). The 3rd period looked like a team with structure who kept as much to the outside as they could and played pretty sound hockey with less (definitely not zero) panic on the puck/throwing it like a grenade repeatedly. Baby steps and hopefully they build it into tomorrow. Good win Gophers and a sweep of Becky would be a damn good weekend.

I’m not trying to rush through my weekend but this is probably the most excited I’ve been for a Gopher hockey game in a long time. If they play like they did last night they have a real chance at getting the sweep. Play smart, play fast, and hit anything wearing red.

The thing that flipped the switch for the Gophers in the second period last night was they started getting their bodies involved in the forecheck. Dmen start to turn pucks over when they know they’re gonna get hit. If I’m Bob I’m pounding that home in the morning film sesh.
