Regardless of how everything ends I will always appreciate this class. You wish that they could have gone out on better terms and you definitely wish that they could’ve won at least one natty. But, whether it’s Cooley who was only here for one year or the guys who stayed for all four, this class played a big part in a lot of the fun memories made over the last few years. In particular, a hat tip to the guys who stuck around for this year. The cynic in me could say that some of them had to come back but if they didn’t want to be here, one way or another, they wouldn’t be. They have had to play heavy minutes all year and some of them are forced into roles that aren’t to their strengths. Going from minutes away from a national championship to probably not even making the tournament can’t be easy but here they are. Making the best of it. No scandals, lead by example, and gave the program their best all four years. So, thank you seniors. Hopefully the team can steal a few points for them this weekend.
Well said and I really hope the fans do show them some love. Know I’ll be there doing it. They deserve that much at least and they’ve tried. Lot of heart in those guys graduating this week
Please encourage folks to stick around for senior night (presuming it will be after the game as it has been the past few years). I feel bad for the kids when they do it after the game to an empty arena. For fun we went and checked out a game at St. Thomas on our bye week as we had not seen the arena yet. It happened to be senior night and there were probably no more than 50 or so people for the ceremony to honor their nine seniors after the game (most of which I presume were parents).
Seems like a slap in the face especially to those kids who dedicated four years of their heart and soul to their program.
Sadly I fear that with the hs tourney, the team’s season struggles and the series being on th/fri it will be a dismal turnout even for the games themselves.
I had the same thoughts this weekend about the journey the seniors have had, especially having been moments away from all the glory and then to how this season transpired. There certainly have been a lot of fantastic moments in the past four seasons however and hope those and the friendships are the things they carry with them through life. Regardless how it ends, wearing the M on their chest is an honor few are awarded and they should all be very proud of their time here. 
Yeah I appreciate everything the seniors were able to accomplish here, wish it included a national title but they played a big part in a lot of fun hockey. As far as this year let’s just say it isn’t on them that this team is what it is, a lot of them are being thrust into roles (like Lamb at fist line center or Luke Mittlestadt as 1D) they ideally wouldn’t be in. It’ll be interesting to see what happens this offseason because they have big losses to offset and there’s a clear lack of progression from some of the guys in the other classes.
Hats off to them all for seeing this road through to the end! I think their dedication to the U and the team says a lot about character and love that about them! I think that will go a long way as they take on the next life path. Thank you so much guys, you’re a class act that’s much appreciated and you wore the M with pride!

When MSC covered the gophers their senior year tribute was really great, I remember the senior year of Nick Angel (can’t recall the rest of that senior class,) they did a really cool highlight video to REO Speedwagon’s time for me to fly. Some onions were cut during that one. Hoping they get something like that but it’s a different time with tv coverage now days.

Koster & Nevers’ class must be up there in terms of winningest classes in recent history, right? Wonder how they compare to the Ambroz or Kloos classes.
The senior class of ‘89 made the FF all 4 years and had 34+ wins all 4 years I’m assuming they’re the record holders. Richards, Snuggerud, Chorske, etc.
After that I’d think the teams in the early/mid 2000’s would be up there. And yes I’d think that 2020 class is probably pretty high up.

I've always been surprised that the Gophers are home the weekend of the State Hockey Tourney. Even during the WCHA days and now the BIG. It's one of those things that I would've thought was a no brainer. Both the WCHA and BIG would've worked with the Gophers schedule to have not at home.

I think the B1G doesn’t care at all. We’re lucky to get a schedule before the season starts.
I appreciate the confidence from Leo and the team but I’d buy that the team has turned a corner if they hadn’t just walked away from a putrid Notre Dame team with only two points a couple of weeks ago. I truly hope that they prove me wrong, in fact I’ll be the first one to come back to this post and call myself out if they go and find some post season success. I also get that they want to be positive going forward, especially for the seniors, but a national championship? Really?? Apologies for being the cranky cynic on this one but I’ll believe it when I see it (and I’ll be more than happy to eat crow).
I appreciate Grubas enthusiasm, but his math is a bit off. Winning 2 games this weekend then 6 straight only gets to the national championship game and doesn’t win it. If they’re going to go that far, might as well win the whole damn thing.

The bigger issue is that the ice always seems to be a bit sketchy this weekend as there are so many games on it with all the consolation games played during the day and lots of different groups in and out of the arena--especially when the weather is warm like it will be this week before the Gophers games at night. But the U isn't gonna turn down that paycheck, so life goes on.

i mean i get it, but i'd much rather have this attitude present. Shows they haven't quit on each other, and as Lamb said last week, they're still having fun and playing for each other.
As I said a few weeks back, there are multiple ways to leave a legacy for these seniors. Results probably aren't going to be what anyone wanted unless something crazy happens, but teaching freshmen to flush bad results, show continuing effort/heart, and build for your career are also really important lessons.
That putrid ND team just took 3 points off PSU as well and OSU just took 4 off MSU. I'm sure if you asked them both they'd say this is their goal as well. No point in giving up the dream until it's gone and if they'd said so, well shit then we might as well just give MSU the 6 points as if you don't have that edge at this level, you're going to get rolled.

The Tourney is almost always on the 1st weekend of March. A couple times it was later, but not often.
So, the tourney would either have been the weekend of the first round playoffs, or the last weekend of the regular season. Either way, there was never ANY chance that Gophers would agree to always be on the road that weekend. In both 2022 and 2023 we got huge crowds for red-hot Gophers squads on tourney weekend, with no noticeable dip in attendance over at Xcel. That tells me that there’s two different pools of people that attend, with some overlap yes, but not 1:1.

I am one of those that have to make the decision of the high school tourney or the Gopher games. Friday - Saturday series usually work out well because I'm not the biggest fan of the champ game in high school and go to the Saturday Gopher game. This year Thursday - Friday is tough because those are the two best AA sessions.
Sucks that Michigan St will probably clinch the regular season title on our ice this weekend. Even if they don't, that means Michigan wins and that's just as bad.

That does suck a bit... But the players have a different perspective.
Last weekend they went to Yost and prevented MI from winning the title against them. Now they look at it is preventing MSU from getting the title against them. It gives them control of what happens to another team and it is empowering to the players.

some statistical quirks I find interesting:
- Johnson, Chesley, and Koster all finished with exactly 202 shot blocks. what are the odds with 3 guys who all played together lol
- LaCombe blocked significantly fewer shots as a sophomore than any of his other 3 seasons. Aside from Covid meaning fewer games played, I wonder if his deployment was much different that year.
- Faber pretty far down the list is an indicator of how good he was. Don’t need to block shots if you’re not letting the enemy take shots to begin with.
Bischoff 88 blocked shots on a pretty good 2016-17 team is impressive. They were a 1 seed in the NCAAs, not like they were getting shelled every night.
