Quote: The RubeI have confidence. I'm not a TITLE OR YOU SUCK guy. I am far from "This team is trash, even 500" though. I think we make a run, I think F4 is possible, not probable, although, yes, I hope for the latter. I think we are a serious player in the game, at least making some real noise.
I have no idea how someone even forms such a broad sweeping assessment of the team without watching any of the games, and missing the entire first one on the radio.
Like I don't even necessarily disagree with the substance here, but it makes zero sense to have any strong opinions (positive or negative) about this team without seeing them play with your own two eyes.
Yeah IDC how you consume the game per se but listening to a homer radio call of the game is going to give you a different (almost certainly more positive) perspective than watching it with your eyes. At least for those two games specifically, but in general as well.
Quote: trixR4kidsThis isn't Angels in the Outfield 🤣. Even with Mooney back this is probably more like a .500 team in conference and they just got swept by one of the weakest OOC teams on the schedule looking like they couldn't complete basic passes for large stretches of both games. There's no rule that says you can't be positive despite that but it comes across as delusional after a certain point.
The new coach of the mighty Gophers, a team with all the advantages and all those drafted players, just failed his first test - swept by MI Tech. With the teams coming up, not to mention the brutal Big 10 schedule, they couldn't have made things any harder for themselves
Just a slow start? That's what a number of fans said last year.
Listening to the radio, for years, and adjusting for the homerism (b/c yes, there is major homerism) you have to paint a picture of the action in your own mind. That, along with the comments in chat and on this board...you can indeed get a good picture of how the game went.
I stand by my opinion.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.

and that was with a split against Tech

Couldn’t agree more. It’s basically propaganda. And lazy to assume
You have to see it to believe it? Really? One can't vision the play due to only audio? *sigh* Sad.

An old wiseman once said (might’ve been wooger) “you’re only as good as your last game.” Not freaking out over 0-2 against Michigan tech. to start but being disappointed/concerned with a dab of somewhat pissed seems fair enough to me.
“Good pace, a lot of north and south, or it could be east and west, I’m not sure but either way…” Wooger

"I got my eye on you" (c) schoolteacher....
I can understand that view.

Well, it’s been a LONG minute since I have posted. Honestly, I am a no one but reading some responses and seeing replies is like reasoning with democrats and republicans, so I just stay away. Came back cause there are some posters that I respect their opinion and thoughts….also level-headed and their sky isn’t falling constantly. You know who you are.
Also, life, kids, coaching and officiating have changed the full spectrum of my involvement….but I still watch every game.
This weekend, obviously the results are disappointing but I saw some good stuff in many different areas that a few just need to grow together and into the D1 games. Tech played well. They did almost everything perfectly and when they screwed up )and they had some big ones) the Gophs didn’t capitalize.
I started officiating 6 years ago. It’s changed the way I watched games. All sports actually. I don’t comment on officiating because I know what is seen on the ice is different from the bench, stands and TV. Today’s game I was a little frustrated with it though. The linesman’s on faceoffs tossed a lot of Gophers for doing exactly what Tech did. The last penalty before the GWG was super weak compared to every other non-call. There was a punch from a Tech player right in front of the ref and it wasn’t called even after Löfgren (I thought that would be worse than 2) punched a guy in front of the net. A stick slashed out of a players hand…all kinds of stuff that I questioned them being impartial. I still can’t believe I am typing this right now and I do want to give the benefit of the doubt, it just didn’t seem impartial.
Anyway, this weekend isn’t gonna frustrate me. The game of hockey has changed so much. You could see we’re SUPER talented at points and snake bit at others.
You can bitch about comparable wins against a conference all you want and the last thing I want to do is see them back into the NCAAs, if they figure things out and win against the B1G teams, the comparisons won’t matter.
I dunno, I guess time will tell.
