They must have put it on sale after I posted this, as it shows $24 as regular price with $19 as a sale price now. The cheaper the better.

For you drinkers out there....the Downtowner still has pitchers of Long Islands for $9.50 on Thu night (for those who are showing up a day early), and the Douglass House has Buffalo Trace at $3.75/pour. Both of these prices were as of this year in July.
If you want to go a little stray, Carmelita's in Calumet (15 minute drive) has some darn good Mexican food, and the gift shop in that same town has amazing fudge.
I like to add the intangibles to the trip.

Oh it's a road trip. Nowadays, when I go in summer, I stay in Rhinelander for a "bonus" day, right off the main drag at Clarion Pointe.
To quote Trampled By Turtles' "Kelly's Bar" song: it's never much different, but it's never the same.
You will come back with a story or two.

I thought about a last minute attempt at a road trip. Staybridge Suites, which I think are like a Residence Inn, are ....$555/night. With my IHG discount.
Does anyone know if BTN plus will be showing it either live or delayed? I see women’s games. The only men’s games for the remainder of 2026 I see listed are the UND series.
Our new neighbor had his mom and grandparents from Houghton of all places come and stay last weekend so when introducing mentioned being pretty big into gopher hockey but some of the hard core fans road trip to there when they play and apparently the winter carnival is pretty cool. She added there’s a portapotty race?😁 they went back after the weekend but will be definitely returning here to stay more often. Super nice people and thought 🤔 a connection with a fun neighbor from Houghton could be a win win. Anyway let’s goooooo gophers!!!!!!!! Rah!

I had nine hours of driving for work yesterday so I was catching up with some podcasts and I listened to the CCHA Writers podcast to hear what they had to say about Tech and Mankato. They were high on Tech because of what they are returning from last season most notably their top 6 forwards which is over 70% of the scoring from last year. We all know about Barto the goalie who started his college career as a Gopher. He started all but one of their games last year, he did get lit up late last season by the Mavs giving up 7 goals in a 7-2 loss in the CCHA playoffs. Tech is picked to be tops in the CCHA this year so this weekend will give us a sense of who our team is...just a good first test before jumping into the deep end here in the coming weeks.

According to the Gopher hockey website you can watch the game on Midco Sports Plus this weekend. I have no idea about the quality of the stream so it very well may be matching up Wally on the radio with the stream. But something is better than nothing.

IF one plans to heading back to Houghton at any time, I recommend buying poker chips from KBC (good for one beer). They are locked in at that price forever. 
I had some I bought for $3 back in the day, I think it's $4.25 a pint now. My chips are still good.

There's something off about hotel room pricing right now, across the entire Great Lakes region and every chain.
Just had to schedule a few in-person meetings 3ish weeks out with colleagues in other offices; I saw that hotels in both Chicago and even Detroit cost the same or higher to book as ones in NYC right now. So instead of sleeping in my comfy Chicago bed I now have to go to NYC in 3 weeks.
Not sure if there's an upcoming weather thing on the forecast, or families all trying to get one last vacation in, truly have no idea. Maybe a broken pricing algorithm that got auto-matched by all the other big chains
