There is no world we deserve it, but how the fuck was that called a good goal lmao. He was obviously offside
LMFAO! Notre Dame doubles their B1G wins on the season after that game 🤣
Game over, Notre Dame wins 3-2.

Either there's a rule change I forgot about or the refs are literally blind. There is no world we deserve it, but how the fuck was that called a good goal lmao. He was obviously offside
Even the refs wanted to call it early tonight I guess
lol we just lost to Notre Dame. We barely scraped together a measly two points from a weekend against the worst team in the conference. Looks like we found rock bottom.
Can anyone post a clip of the offsides?
Can we just sim to the end of this season already?

Isn’t it now that the blue line goes “from the ice all the way up” so to speak? So the Notre Dame’s player’s trailing leg was off the ice but still back over the correct side of the blue line.
So I think I misunderstood the rule? I thought a skate had to be in contact with the ice but looks like it can be off the ice? I always thought in college the player had to have a skate in contact with the ice

I thought maybe that was a rule change I forgot about? I honestly don’t know or care enough to look it up because going to OT against that team wouldn’t have been much less embarrassing. Here’s a pic for those who didn’t see it.Isn’t it now that the blue line goes “from the ice all the way up” so to speak? Empty net. Gophers extra attacker. Is Jimmy Clark….!
oof. Hasn’t done anything all season and gets the nod.
it shows how down we are I guess but id roll the dice and let one of the freshman give it a go to bang in a lose puck rather than watch Clark skate in circles
Bad loss. Bad hockey team. Most of the forwards on this team are 3rd and 4th line skill. I don’t see this getting better next year without a serious influx of front line forward and defense skill. And I don’t see that happening. Really like Bob but I think it’s time for a new coach.

According to Jup on twitter it is in fact just “leg has to be ‘over the blue line’”. But to your point would going to OT with Notre Dame have really been any more of a victory? Sure we could have gotten two points out if it instead of zero but this season is lost anyway so, and I truly can’t believe that I’m saying this about my favorite team in all of sports, but who actually cares? They didn’t deserve to win with how they played any more than Notre Dame did. Two terrible teams out there embarrassing the entire sport of hockey. Thank goodness that it’s an Olympic year because otherwise I would be calling Peacock to get my money back lol. Alright, that was my immediately-after-the-game, emotional reaction. Probably a good thing for all of our mental health that the Gophers are off next weekend.
Rombach is unplayable right now. They have 4 options on D who are remotely playable. That is INSANE for a program like Minnesota.
I knew I should have enjoyed the shootout win last night more. It was more than likely the last win of the season. Can’t imagine we have a week off and the team will be really motivated to face #1 and #2 in consecutive weeks. I wouldn’t blame them if they pack it in, not that we could tell anyways.

I will be a hater and say there are 3 remotely playable. And only 1 that I actually feel comfortable with when he’s on the ice
I really didn't think the team would hit a new low this weekend and I'm far from being the most optimistic person on this board. This is just pathetic, not that what we were seeing before didn't meet that criteria at times but losing to this terrible ass team after going to OT against them the night before because you can't score 4 goals against a bottom 10-15 NCAA team two nights in a row is just another level of trash. There just aren't any signs that this team is improving.New coach new coach new coach new coach new coach new coach new coach new coach new coach
So let’s take Bob’s go-to excuse right now at face value. Sure, Rinzel Chesley Moore & Kurth should’ve all stayed for this year.
But given our committed recruits and when they’re all respectively slated to come in, there still would have been a drastic gap next year in top end talent on both D and F, so this kind of season would still happen. You’re not getting Rinzel and Ollie for a fourth year unless something happens like they lose in the national championship game as juniors. Bob’s math doesn’t math any way you slice it! Truly an avalanche of errors bordering on straight up carelessness that got us to this point. I’m numb by now
The rule changed a few years ago. If a foot is in the air over the blue line, it is legal. The proper call was made.

Looking at the pic, zooming in, etc, yeah, right call.

Yeah I thought maybe that was the case because the refs couldn't possibly be that blind while looking at a clear screenshot of the play. I vaguely remember that rule change now but it hadn't seen it happen in a while. The rule changed a few years ago. If a foot is in the air over the blue line, it is legal. The proper call was made.

Disappeared for me too. I saw it though, and the skate in the air was definitely over the neutral zone meaning it was not offside.

idk if the hosting site deleted it or what
The only thing that matters now is getting Mooney healthy and make sure Luke Mittlestedt, Ziemer, and Luca are 100% for the Big Ten Tournament. Play the young guys the last four games. MAYBE Luca can steal a game in the tournament. I would also shorten the bench for the Big Ten tourney with this roster.
There are very few guys who are musts on the roster for next year and it’s becoming painfully more obvious as the year goes on and guys completely stagnate
live and breathe for gopher hockey (as do many of us) and I’m skipping through half the game because of how hard they are to watch now. That is an extremely bad sign for the state of the program
And for those wondering, part of 22-23 rule changes
Offsides. The Ice Hockey Rules Committee changed its rule so that a player will be considered onside when the puck proceeds
the player into the attacking zone as long as the attacking team's player's skate is over the blue line. Previously, the skate was
required to be in contact with the blue line to be considered onside.
Rationale: The National Hockey League has successfully used this rule the past few seasons and it aligns with the Ice Hockey
Rules Committee's goal to reduce stoppages in play where possible and maintains the fairness of this play.

THAT!! That right there is my biggest frustration with Motzko. I was one of the first back in August of 2023 and 2024 when we had slimmer recruiting cycles that said “let’s just wait and see how it plays out”. Well, we’ve waited and we’ve seen and it’s an absolute disaster. We were in the Frozen Four two years in a row just three years ago. Made it to the national title game and definitely should have won it. One, if not both, of the past two seasons should have ended in a frozen four berth as well. How we didn’t win a natty between 2020-2025 is beyond on me. But all of that makes the absolute collapse this season even more incomprehensible and embarrassing. How on earth do you go from Snuggerud and Rinzel, Moore and Koster, Huglen and Wood, to this sh$t show. This isn’t a “bad” gopher team that’s barely above .500 and is on the bubble of the tournament. This is a team that is just bad. No two ways about it. Bad, bad, bad. I don’t know all of the reasons behind the scenes but it doesn’t matter at this point. This season is lost but it was completely avoidable. But through three off seasons of off the ice team mismanagement we are all now lucky enough to experience the worst Gopher hockey season since Nixon was in office! We were still heavily involved in Vietnam and sending men to the moon the last time the Gophers were this bad. Unacceptably embarrassing.
I hope Coyle is already calling Ben Barr behind the scenes. This train-wreck has run its course.

TBH I hope more than anything he’s going to dump 500k-1mil extra into revenue sharing in hockey so we can run at high end chl talent and the rest of the upper echelon over the long term. Just bringing in Barr/Raboin but not buffering the rest is going to leave us in the same spot
if it’s Fersch, Carle, Nightingale, that’s different. It won’t be them. these young guys are going to need the institutional support

Honestly maybe I’ve gone soft but I can handle not winning it all with good teams. I realize the one and done tourney can be finicky and strange but at least those teams were wagons. You knew they were gonna be in the mix every year. It’s the complete and utter mismanagement of a program that’s led to unprecedented lows that just grind my gears.
This wouldn’t be acceptable at Alabama football or Duke basketball and it shouldn’t be acceptable at Minnesota hockey. Plain and simple.
You're right and we’ve seen this with basketball and football. Basketball has gone through idk how many coaching changes and Pitino was relatively successful everywhere but here. PJ had some past success but it’s obvious the resources aren’t there to hit another level. With this program it’s not as dire but you do need to commit some $$$ there too because we all know our conference rivals are and I’ve gotta imagine any incoming coach would have concerns if nothing changed there.I hope Coyle is already calling Ben Barr behind the scenes. This train-wreck has run its course.

yep. Recent CHN article on it. If you want to play in the B10 and compete week to week, there needs to be investment. Otherwise you’re 100% dependent on the quality of MN kids in surplus as you’re always going to lose some.
it’s part of why Niko looks competent in bball but his teams have no depth. It’s why fleck has zero chance competing with Oregon and OSU.
This is the one sport we have innate advantage in recruiting geography and history, but you have to put some money in it with sooner being vastly better than later
Notre Dame/South Bend is such a great road trip. Besides the outcome on the ice,it never disappoints time and time again…
- Fairly easy (outside of Chicago) drive from the the Cities…
- Great restaurants… The Crooked Ewe is my favorite place. Their BBQ and sides are second to none.
- Notre Dame’s campus is so nice and interesting to walk around and see all the architecture. From their stadiums/arenas, resident halls to all other buildings. They take pride and attention to details. Best campus in the BIG.
- Easy parking and Notre Dame knows how to run the post game exit. Easily the best in the BIG. Talking with one of the parking lot attendants. Notre Dame only charges admission for football, men’s/women’s basketball and hockey. All other sporting events are free.
- Great place to watch hockey. Second to Mariucci in the BIG.
- Hands down the friendliest staff and fans in the BIG. Football might be a different story, but not hockey.

I see what you’re saying and I can agree with you to an extent but there should have been at least one championship lifted in that era. Especially with it now about to be 23 years since our last one. Not necessarily directed at you, but let's not act like we lost in '23 due to some unlucky tourney bounce. That was a completely mis-managed 2nd half of the game and we should have never lost. That falls squarely on Motzko and the fact that he tried to blame it on the players for getting anxious was terrible.

yes, Bob shifting blame to the players has always rubbed me the wrong way. The players executed their game plan perfectly; Qpac generated zero chances inside the house all 3rd period. The problem was the game plan given to them itself. Maybe that’s only evident in retrospect because they had just pulled it off successfully vs. SCSU and BU, and I could see why one would choose to go that direction in the moment under all the pressure, but it wasn’t the players’ fault.
