Well keep in mind that Collins and Glover were 2nd/3rd rounders and you quickly start to see that NHL execs overvalue size above all else and just sorta hope these guys develop. Javon is playing like a freshman that’s coming along that’s how it should be, he’s showing promise. Luca for mvp, we have our goalie. Mooney and ziemer have it. I don’t know what else. I’d feel better and hopeful with more team progress as the season went along even in losing efforts. It’s frustrating to see the same careless puck possession at this point in the season and it’s one constant that can’t be.

I think someone else mentioned it, or maybe it was Vegoe on the GPL episode this week, but I hope that in a couple of years we’re having the same conversations about Rombach that we had LaCombe.
The conversation with Lacombe is that he tried to do too much on his own sometimes due to being confident with the puck. That’s more of a “good” problem to have than a guy who chucks it up the boards under pressure constantly.

Also ran the 2nd unit PP for a bit and looked alright at the top of the umbrella, helped create two good chances on the tail end of that PP, it’s good to see the coaching staff trusting him in more situations.

yep Rombach is much more of a Brinkman type. I guess Ryan Johnson 2.0 would be his most optimistic ceiling.

Yeah most of the previous D looked good right away, not flawless right away but you could instantly tell they were a step up from the late Lucia era D for the most part. These guys not so much, like Walker and others have said Whipple continues to look solid, Mittlestadt is solid but he’s a senior. The rest… I don’t wanna give that poor horse another beating 🤐 .
I gotta imagine we get a better effort tomorrow and win mainly because of how bad ND is. My prediction is 3 points tomorrow.
Watching Javon move it along the boards into the o zone has been fun to watch using that size and speed, he doesn’t always get off a great shot on goal but he’s going there and that’s that!😁 Not a bad way to draw a penalty either with that drive to the net he does. I Like it.

Yeah, that’s fair and something that I didn’t think about as far their different styles of play and the different “problems” that they had adjusting to the college game. Perhaps the Brinkman, or best case scenario of Ryan Johnson, comparison is more accurate. Either way I’m not ready to give up on the Rombach project (not saying that you or anyone else is suggesting that) but it’s clear that he and the rest of the D need some help next season. I’ll leave it at that because the D corps discussion has been beaten into the ground.
