FIRE BOB!
(Oh wait, they swept?)
So I might have the wifey convinced to head down for a game this weekend. What is the best place to buy tickets, Seat Geek? Hard to tell when you look at sites what the actual price will be after fees. Thanks.
Seat Geek is the best option, they have the most Tickets Available as they are the official reseller provider of the UofM. I consistently find tickets under face value (including the fees). Typically the best deals are available the day of the Game. Even the Wisconsin Games which had good attendance I could find tickets slightly below single game face value. Season ticket holders pay less per ticket so makes sense they are willing to resell below the single game pricing.
Currently plenty of tickets available for ~$22 on Seat Geek for Ohio State Friday Night
Cheapest Ticket from the UofM directly is $30
With Mooney now injured, get ready to hear the injury excuse from Bob on his radio show and media tour. Don’t let him fool you. You lose all credibility and validity when you don’t fill your roster.
The reality of the matter is that every team has injuries. Look at Wisconsin. Look at Arizona State. I believe Michigan lost a player for the whole season. And they lost their goaltender. That is why you fill your roster and have depth.
Motzko has mismanaged this roster so badly that it is hard to comprehend.
Pointing out Wisconsin and ASU, 2 teams free falling doesn't help your point. With Mooney now injured, get ready to hear the injury excuse from Bob on his radio show and media tour. Don’t let him fool you. You lose all credibility and validity when you don’t fill your roster.

Yes, that is fair. My point was more so that they have legitimate top players out. ASU lost Jack Beck and Cullen Potter to season ending injuries. Two of their three best players.
Wisconsin just lost Hensler. And comparing WI (at #14 in NPI) versus MN (#38) is apple and oranges. One is still vying for an at-large while the other is dead in the water.
Motzko would have more of a legit excuse if Lamb, Ziemer, or Luke M were lost to season ending injuries. Losing Pahlsson, Gruba, and Thomas for lengths of time is why you fill your roster and have depth. They aren't backbreaking injuries.
Yeah it might be beating a dead horse, but I also remember being mocked specifically by you last summer when I expressed concerns about the roster heading into this season.

😉
Ziemer is having a pretty remarkable season. 20 goals on an offensively challenged team playing the #1 SOS.
Lock to wear the C next year
Just to remind everyone where we’re at. 19 losses. 5 games left in the season. 4 against the nation’s #1 & #2 teams. And one tourney game against either Penn St or Wisconsin.
The program record for most losses in a season is 24 in 1972. This team will undoubtedly tie that record for MOST LOSSES EVER.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
We’re going to end the season 0-8-1 lmfao. Holy fuck we are ass

He has been painfully aloof from many Gopher sports and has zero hockey background nor has pressed Bob on any part of the new landscape

I do, the men’s hockey program generated >$3M in profit for his athletic dept last fiscal year, 10x more than men’s basketball. Coyle’s been at practices recently, invested significant effort into shoring up attendance early into Bob’s tenure when it was still lagging post-tDon, and Minnesota athletics staff have regularly held key roles in NCAA ice hockey governance. Lastly, Tim Brule mentioned on this week’s GPL that he recently worked on a special project pulling some historical-to-now SoS data for someone who reports to the AD.
Midseason coaching changes don’t happen in men’s hockey barring personal or locker room circumstances blowing up, and especially not at a program of our caliber, there’s nothing for Coyle to gain by broadcasting internal strife or displeasure, which would mostly serve to further undermine the program at present

I hope you are right. We need some new blood stat. That’s why I’m hesitant about Raboin, a chop off the Motzko block. He’s a terrific young coach and I’m sure he’d do fine but this season is so bad it’s making me want to distance myself as far from the current regime as possible.

where did the revenue come from?
did that go away? do you want to pay 800k in a buyout?

Ticket sales and sponsorships/advertising. I’d pay the $800k buyout because I think they’d lose more money staying the course as we all know how dire attendance could get, if allowed to fester. I don’t know what they’re doing with the money, but I think Coyle does care about what he has in the men’s hockey program at Minnesota.
Say tBob is out. Who's there to replace him? Many forget about that part.

yeah I hear ya. Those numbers haven’t dropped this year (joy of season tickets/sold tickets here). Idk if this year is going to hit coyle much.

I guarantee the Gophers will not lose a game next weekend
Aloha!
This team now seems destined for a 6th place finish which should send us to Penn St in the first round. Last time our season ended in Happy Valley we had a coach retire 🤷♂️ just saying
Steve Miller fills in for Bob. According to Wally, Bob needed some time away. Maybe Vegoe rattled him? 🤣
Somebody needs to ask him about his vaunted PK structure 🤣
Weird to think we have played our last Saturday game this season. Also sad to think that since the Big Ten Semis on Saturday as well as Big Ten final. Of course, regional final might be and national final is on Saturday.
I’m currently watching the GPL episode with John King on Thanksgiving week before going out to Denver and my main reaction is, what on earth happened over that winter break? I know that our schedule in January was a gauntlet but man, listening to Jup, Vegoe, and Kinger talk I forgot how getting through this past November there was actually some positivity. October was rough but as November went on the team got themselves some wins and improvements were being made little by little. Ludtke is brought up in the podcast as having a great mindset and a key pick up in the transfer portal. Rombach was improving. Is it really just that our January schedule exposed all of the Gopher’s weaknesses or what? Feels like almost a completely different conversation around the program.

Think it’s that you expected ongoing growth and some guys look stunted and older guys with zero production.
Clark has 2 points in the second half (12 in first)
Pahlsson had his 5 point weekend but otherwise nothing (6)
Hendy has 3 points in the 2nd half (14)
Ludkte 3 points (8)
Moe 2 (8)
Pritchard 3 (6)
think there was some fools gold with some of these guys shooting at crazy high shooting % and games way over our xG scoring. The team is just bad offensively and speed wise and gets killed on the dot so they’re chasing all the time. That’s discouraging hockey when you don’t ever get rewarded with I think is part of why it’s hitting guys who are having no production harder at times to keep getting into the effort tank. Even that Wisco weekend we didn’t deserve to win that large
team is about exactly what they’ve earned record wise with who they’ve played and how their talent has matched up week by week. Part of why there are guys who either needing more time in jr to develop or just don’t belong at a B10 school
Bob was on with PA today. They mostly avoided talking about this year’s team for most of the time. Bob had his normal talking points about how in ‘23 we had a bunch of guys come back and this year we lost players he didn’t expect to lose. He did say that he has 6 freshman right now that will play in the NHL. I’m guessing for sure Mooney, Moore, and Rombach. I honestly have no idea who else he thinks is at that level. If he’s thinking that way about half our roster, I don’t foresee him trying to change anything in the offseason.
Ziemer is an obvious one, the three you mentioned, and then maybe Whipple and IDK who else. I don’t think Rombach looks anything like it currently, am curious what Moore’s trajectory looks like, and idk who the 6th guy would be because it’d probably be a stretch. Maybe Moe could be that kind of player by senior year.

He said 6 FRESHMEN though. I can see Mooney, Moe, Rombach, Moore all at least getting 1 game. After that I’m stumped.
It’s all coach speak nonsense. I remember him trying to pump Pinonemi’s tires saying he was a totally different player his sophomore season.
The concerning part is that he seems to be doubling down on how this roster just needs maturity. At this stage in his career he doesn’t seem like a guy willing to overhauls the roster and cut players. A coaching change is needed.

if he meant 6 freshmen, yeah that isn't going to happen unless something crazy occurs
McLaughlin, Rombach, Moe, Mooney, Moore, Pritchard, Townsend. Feel pretty solid that 4 is the max you're getting out of that group with even some of those guys being a stretch (Mooney has all the talent, but is still very small which is going to make it tough; Moe and Rombach need to develop quite a bit). No idea what he's talking about if so, but I guess maybe he's also just trying to hype them up too though not the route I'd go given you certainly need to move on from some of them (unless we have ample money and those guys are cool with staying and competing for PT)

yep if he truly believes that, then you need to move on. This team could be good in 2 years, but you need things to go right for that to be the case and another year like this one next year and we're going to be in a real bad spot on the recruiting trail
Just got an email from the U that tickets are 50% off for the home finale series.
guess that speaks to that the U is seeing something is wrong as well.

That plus a Thursday and Friday series during the HS state tournament. Yikes.
McLaughlin, Rombach, Moe, Mooney, Moore, Pritchard, Townsend.
The only guy on that list for me is Moore. He has the speed and size, along with a serviceable shot, to make an NHL roster. He also likes using his body and strength, which isn't always the case with big guys.
Even so, despite notable improvement over the course of this season, he's had to grind it out and doesn't often stand-out against good competition. They should know a lot more about this time next season.

Moore should play in the NHL and feels the most certain to me as well. Big body, great skater, and when he's on, he does some things most guys cannot with that frame. The rest I agree are all going to be up in the air for different reasons with 3 being in the extremely unlikely category already
I still seem to be in the minority on this board that really likes what I’ve seen from Moe. Watching Mason Moe, it’s clear (to me at least) that he’s got the talent to be a helluva player in college, it’s just he should probably still be in the USHL. I think you’ve got a great long term 2C there.

i don't think anyone has disagreed he'll be a good player in college. He's had a really tough 2nd half though. hopefully will continue to improve but there's a reason he was a 3rd round pick last year. More is commentary on NHL status where 3rd rounders are 50/50. Think most would like to keep him for next year (at least I have) as part of the guys you really want to return. think Moe will get there. he's also almost 2 years younger than Moore who has blossomed more this year (probably part of why Moe staying in Jrs another year would've been nice but here we are)

It’s all coach speak nonsense. I remember him trying to pump Pinonemi’s tires saying he was a totally different player his sophomore season.
yeah he kept putting Pino on the 2nd line with Nelson and Brodzinski, over Pitlick, until Pitlick kept scoring every single game. Idk if Pino notched a single goal that season; when he transferred to Omaha they also put him on their first line to start the year and then he finished the year as an intermittent scratch again. Guess he always was one of those look great in practice, freeze up in game situations players.
Bob’s never been able to effectively manage his favorites

I looked back at the box scores from 23-24 and Pino was on the 3rd line for a couple of games with Kurth and Huglen, but mostly on the 4th line with Clark, Mittelstadt and Strobel. I never found a chart with him on the 1st or 2nd lines. Pitlick was mostly with Nelson and Brodzinski, but Nevers and a couple of others played with them as well.
In his freshman year, he was mostly on the 4th line as well, as Nevers was with Nelson and Brodzinski.
I know Bob tried him on the 2nd PP unit a few times early in one of the seasons, I don't remember which one. I do remember Pino was certainly one of the players some fans did not care for and kept calling for Strobel to play more.
I actually give a @#$* about the Twins
Looking down from my High Horse
Morality Police
For me, I almost more felt bad for Pino than anything else. If I remember correctly he suffered an injury the season prior to his freshman year at Minnesota. Then, it just never really clicked for the kid. I don’t know if it was a confidence thing or he was just out of his depth but Bob and the coaching staff gave him plenty of opportunities and it never really seemed to take. My biggest frustration regarding his situation was less with him, although there were times I would get frustrated his play, and more with Bob’s insistence on playing him. Both of his years here, but especially his sophomore year, I remember just scratching my head that he seemed to be favored on the fourth line over John Mittelstadt and Strobel. Neither of those guys were your most talented or high scoring forwards but they were physical, fast, and seemed very comfortable in that role. Pino didn’t score a ton either but he also seemed a little timid out on the ice. If timid is too harsh then at the very least indecisive. It’s not that I didn’t want him to ever see the ice again. But if you have three guys that don’t score very much and are pretty penciled in to the fourth line, especially as the season went on, but only two of them actually do well in that fourth line grinder role, then why was the third guy getting picked over those two. It just didn’t make any sense.

interesting, I must have misremembered. The games that stuck out in my mind were the UST series and @ OSU early that year. Strobel got his chances with Clark and Pitlick for a while, never produced quite enough though and I hope he’s done well at CC
