Mooney was early and now Duluth has gone neutral zone clog and we don’t have the skill or the guts to break it. It’s just lazy bad hockey with no sense of urgency. These upper class men should know better. The young guys follow their leaders and that 18 has looked like the only spark is telling
Welp, I was hoping for more shots on goal and scoring chances in the second. They are going to play their best hockey in the third and get some puck luck if they have a chance. Luca played pretty solid in the 2nd, so we have that going for us!

We've definitely seen better efforts out of this team but no hockey team can put up an A+ performance every game and unfortunately this team doesn't really stand a chance vs good teams if they don't have it. This may be the worst game of hockey I’ve watched in multiple seasons. Maybe not the worst individual period, but collectively this game is poop x100.
I've lost track of the mistakes and mental errors.
The players are losing this game but the Gophers' coaching staff deserves some heat.
Shierhorn has spent a lot of time talking about Pairwise and the costly nature of losing these games in October. He knows how much trouble they're in.

To be fair there's not a whole lot else he can say without absolutely demoralizing the entire locker room. This team definitely has guys who can be part of a supporting cast on a good Gopher hockey roster but they really need an influx of high end talent in the upcoming seasons.“I really like the guys we have”. We always leave the games early and I’m always bummed about it, but I had no hard feelings about it tonight. Yikes that was awful.
Seriously though, Luca giving up an absolutely terrible goal followed by Cal taking an absolutely terrible penalty and it was lights out.
Spotting a Scott Sandelin team 2 goals early is bad news for any team, but especially for a team that hasn't been able to generate any kind of sustained pressure all season.
The game had the feel of 16 guys in Gopher sweaters waiting around for someone else to go and score a goal or make a great play. We need a team full of guys who think they ARE the guy who is going to make that happen. Bob’s got to change these guys mentality.

luckily Duluth has been fine so far so shouldn’t hurt them like years past. But yeah this team will need to finish above .500 in the B10 which will be an upward climb with msu mich and psu all clearly more talented and OSU nd and wi at least equals

Based on numbers in the rink tonight, Bob is going to take some major heat if the season unfolds as it is all the way through. Half capacity vs an in state team is a sign your product is already viewed as not good

Max Plante & Adam Kleber were on the World Junior gold medal team last year and it shows. I thought Max was the best player on the ice tonight. Zam Plante, Jason Shaugabay, Ty Hanson are all sophomores too and all 5 have taken a big step from last year. Adam Gajan played well in goal. Neal Pionk (a Wild draft pick) D looked good.
Bulldogs had their noses rubbed in 💩 the past 2-3 years after having their way with the Gophers for a decade, so they were clearly motivated tonight.
Between the Wild, Vikings, and Gopher hockey it’s about as depressing as it gets. I’m going to need a blowout win from the football team tomorrow in Iowa City.

I thought the first period we were playing the correct way. Dump the puck, have some speed on the forecheck, and make the defense work. With a young team it’s hard to stick with that boring game. A little frustration and it snowballs. We have to be willing to work through it instead of skate through it. They’re not going to give scoring chances, we have to earn them.

their top line had 7 total shot attempts and 1 on goal tonight (the goal on the PP). This was a getting embarrassed up and down the lineup by a team who wanted it more vs a team who apparently doesn’t know how to pass or skate

You're not wrong but part of it is by design with all the low to low to high plays, the lack of offensive talent on the blue line to not be one dimensional ie they immediately shoot it or throw it in the corner, similar to the late Lucia era. At forward the lack of guys who can make a guy miss to create open space and quality chances (or just outmuscle everyone like Nelson) is also evident. The center depth definitely took a hit after Moore left, that guy had some limitations but he could at least use his speed to drive the net and create scoring chances and had a decent shot.Gophers entire forward group has 5 shots. 5.
there are some times this team will have ups and downs and you expect it, but for everyone’s sake Bob needs to tell this team to shoot the fucking puck.
Also as much as I hate to say it, I can't think of many examples of Motzko really coaching up the talent level of his teams historically. I can definitely think of examples of his teams underperforming compared to their level of talent but not many examples of the opposite. Hopefully this year ends up being the exception, the book isn't written yet and there's plenty of hockey left to be played. I'll give him some credit for getting this group to put together some good performances in about half the games this year but it seems like they have to play their absolute A game in order to win or even tie a team like BC.

His strength seems to be recruiting, but this year's team wouldn't support that theory.
