Strobel is in for Pino who was on the 4th line both games last weekend.

We now get to find out who is more valuable Faber or LaCombe. The team played great last weekend without Faber. If the team doesn't play as great this weekend clearly the Hobey has to go to LaCombe over Faber. ?

In all serious it is great to see Faber is healthy enough to play and hopefully LaCombe being out is precautionary to make sure he is ready for the playoffs.

With the bye next weekend he will have three weeks between games. Hopefully that is all the recovery time he needs.

Do you think this means Koster gets moved up to the #1 PP unit? Or would it be Luke Mittlestadt? Or both? Pretty sure the top PP was playing with two defensemen last weekend.

Without LaCombe it is a tight battle on who is their most offensive defensemen.

Faber has 3 goals 17 assists 20 points

Koster has 3 goals 16 assists 19 points

Luke Mittelstadt has 2 goals 15 assists 17 points

Johnson has 3 goals 13 assists 16 points

I suspect they may use 4 forwards more on the power play as a result of not having LaCombe.

On the GPL podcast they discussed how good fOSU is on the PK and that they lead the country in SHG so my guess is they will only go 4 forwards if the game is on the line.

The Ohio State goalie knocks the net off again.

An Ohio State player clearly trips the Gopher. It's ALOT easier to play short handed and kill the power play if you can get away with everything.

I don’t know how the officials missed Koster getting tripped. It was a good scoring chance, too. The 5 on 3 for > a minute would have been nice….

The Refs did the same thing in the lose to Wisconsin they refused to call an obvious penalty when we were on the power play. If the other team knows the ref will never give a 5 on 3 power play they will do anything to kill the penalty.

Look a couple times he definitely pushed it but this is not the first time that net has been a problem.  There is obviously something wrong with it and the goals know it and use it.

Nevers had a grade A scoring chance coming right down the slot when he knocked it off the fourth time.

They needed to change the rule and call it a penalty shot. The goalie shouldn't be able to do something that blatant to force a power play (assuming it gets called) rather then face a great scoring chance.

Knocking the net off on purpose should never be a good defensive strategy.

Calling it 1 out of 4 times is not enough punishment.

You can't allow the goalie to stop four scoring chances by knocking the net off.

I really think it’s a Mariucci net issue.  It’s happened multiple times this year and mostly on the Zamboni end.  And I don’t recall this issue when the Gophers are on the road.

That rink always has weird posts and I don’t recall rink attendants having to dump warm water into the post hole and sucking it out with another bottle.  It’s some weird ass thing Mariucci has always done.  And those bases always look soft/bent.

why don’t they just use a drill with a bit the is exact size?

Like the one on 92 in sconnie, they saw it.  They just decided not to call it.

Nice to see them finally penalize the goalie  for the net kicking antics.  Nappier didn’t teach him well enough I guess.

I hope the Gophers are fired up after all that BS and ready for some second period magic!

Our goalies have never had an issue.

I thought on the podcast a few weeks ago there was something about the size of the post thingys under the ice and they can’t get them anymore or something so it will be addressed with the ice shrinking.
I could be way off so somebody correct me if I’m wrong!

Yes there is an issue that makes it easier to know off the net at that end but why does it happen when we have great scoring chances? Coincidence? I think not. Why does it happen way more with the opponent goalie and not Close?

Close is now at that end (second period) is he going to knock it off 4 times when Ohio State has good scoring chance and if he does do the refs only call it one time?

We will soon find out.

The net on both ends tends to be a problem for certain away team goalies.  It’s not just the one by the student section.

Our goalies might not have an issue because they’re used to it. Plus, Close is quite a bit smaller than this guy and Portillo.

Honest question: When the last time we had a truly “big” goalie?

Maybe Close isn’t as big as some of these other goalies?  Or maybe he doesn’t push off as much?

So put Barto in net (he is big) and just have him knock the net off anytime the other team has a good scoring chance. Don't need to play good defense.

I mean, a goalie isn’t very likely to knock a net off if there isn’t a scoring chance because he, well, isn’t really doing anything.

So it was just a coincidence that Nevers was coming right now the slot and the goalie knocks the net off? He had no reason to be near the post the play was in the center of the ice. He should be in the center of the net.

I heard this too. Iirc, Lucia had the goal line moved closer to the boards because he wanted less space behind the net. They had to drill new holes and avoid the cooling system underneath so it wasnt as good as if they’d built it that way originally.

Hopefully it’s fixed next year. I know it happens to many goalies, but you rarely see it when it isn’t a good chance. Away goalies just get to play dumb.

Why does it not happen on every shot? The goalie knows he can only can get away with it so many times so he only uses it when he really needs it (a good scoring chance).

Goalies aren't dumb.
