@j22 again replying just to shorten.
Yeah I think that is a super fair point. I do also think it’s part of the bigger guys they’ve got are ones who love the winged wheel (seider has said it many times; debrincat wanted to come back). I think they’re going to be just as hard on Larkin in the whole deal. Now maybe Larkin puts his head down and says trade me to Mn only. Maybe (I super doubt it) he and Steve bury the hatchet and move on. Or they decide together that Larkin wants to play somewhere, he’s open to more options, and it moves up the bait mn has to send and he ends up there in the end. Lot of ways to armchair this one and it’s maybe the only real story line ongoing right now so this has been fun debate.
the team isn’t going to be a contender unless Larkin was traded for another superstar (not happening). I think Seider and co know that
I'm not sure what to make of the Zuccarello situation, but I'm fairly certain it isn't because they can't afford him. Either Zuccarello is asking for a ridiculous number, or the Wild flat out don't want to bring him back. It could be them sending a message to Zuccarello. Might even be them sending one to Kaprizov. Strange deal though that doesn't make a ton of sense at the moment. If you been pay attention, it looks the Wild's pursuit of Larkin has cost them any chance to resign Zucchy. If they don't get Larkin and lose Zucchy what is top 6 going to look like. Yurov, Kirill, Boldy, Ek, Brink, and Hartman? That top 6 with the very far below average physicalness of the defense is a great receipe for a losing season, no matter how good the goaltending is.
I could see Guerin/Hynes trying to get either P. Kane or C. Giroux to take that spot.
agreed on all of this. I don’t know if we have the money but then again Kane signed for less than he would’ve earned elsewhere staying in Detroit. MN would make sense
Kaner in a Wild jersey would make my brain itch so bad, lol
ST PAUL, Minn. — Minnesota Wild prospect Charlie Stramel is back on the ice and expects to be 100% in a matter of weeks
The former first-round pick and Rosemount native broke his ankle in late March while playing at Michigan State, but told the media Monday that a lot of the pain has subsided and that he's looking to be back at full strength this summer.
Aloha!
Zucc off to LA.
That clears up the Zuccarello situation. The Wild just decided that they didn't want him back. I doubt that we ever find out the reason for it, but it's an interesting decision.
We have a trade...

You know...maybe Billy G needs to chill on trading away draft picks. Pretty soon the Wild won't be able to draft anyone until the next millennium!

even with the salary retention, woof that makes us tight to the cap already with the additional signings.
Luckily spurgeon falls off next year for whatever they're going to sign Quinn for (I hope). But is going to make an offseason move for someone tough

Did you come to that conclusion before the $5.5m bonus for playing 10 games was reported on?
before we knew the bonus structure and total value of the contract. It doesn't really change my opinion though. If the Wild wanted to bring Zuccarello back, they would have made it work with a similar contract to what LA gave him. That clears up the Zuccarello situation. see that now. It will be a little higher (5 mil), but it's not like there's a ton of space barring moving someone who gives some wiggle room. More alluding to it for trying to sign/trade for someone in that "impact" territory. Obviously moving for someone at the deadline is way different given how you can hide salary.
More a comment in general with all the moves rather than specific to that deal
Social media is starting to stir back up with Larkin especially from Detroit fans. Their fanbase really over values Larkin. Like I said in a prior post, they are thinking they'll get the NHL version of the Hershall Walker out this. Plus, they really put Yzerman high on the pedestal... lol!!!
Guerin wouldn't actually ever trade Boldy for Larkin in any combination, right...? Someone reassure me that this is not in any way a good idea from a hockey perspective (not a fan perspective)... You couldn't trade a top-10 scorer in his prime, right...?

He wouldn’t. Billy loves Boldy. Add to it that it’s a horrific trade from pretty much any angle (contract, age) and there’s zero chance. It’s just engagement farming
I'm way too superstitious to say never, especially in regards to Guerin doing something stupid. But, Boldy and his contract, might be a top 5 asset in the league. Any trade involving Boldy and Larkin would also have to include Mo Seider as the primary piece from Detroit. Larkin is the throw in piece in a Boldy trade.Guerin wouldn't actually ever trade Boldy for Larkin in any combination, right...? I'm still buying the theory that Guerin knows he's in the driver's seat regarding a Larkin trade, and is acting accordingly

oh yes the fanbase is very in on the fan fic of fixing the Larkin relationship by trading for werenski. It would take a load to get him. Detroit has some pieces but can’t say I know enough about the direction Columbus thinks they’re going right now

Has there been any updates to the TV situation for the upcoming season? Last I heard was that Diamond Sports Group, or whatever the heck it was called, went out of business and it will not be on Fox Sports North, Bally's Total Fitness Sports Channel North (with one of the most phallic logos I have ever seen...), nor Fan Duel Gambling Addicts Network or any of that nonsense this year.
Do we know anything yet?

I will say... I just bought an antenna so I can get the CW for Mountain West football... If it were to come with the bonus of grabbing Wild games I'd probably do a back flip lol
More info from Judd on this. Sounds like they hope that if you received Fan Duel in years past, those carriers will also carry the new Wild Tv. I know that I get the Twins TV on DirecTv as part of having the sports package like when Fan Duel had them.

So basically I won’t be able to watch them anymore, just like the Twins.
Our YouTube TV didn’t carry it, but I had the app and could use my parents Spectrum info to watch. 😂
I think ESPN+ is also a possibility it appears.

i don’t want Ryan Suter anywhere near the Gopher program!!
agreed! The Badgers can have Brooks, good player but I’m out on anything to do with Ryan Suter.
Despite how things ended I do feel the Suter & Parise signings will be remembered much more favorably than right now. Consider where the franchise was at back then: #1C Kyle Brodziak, a mummified Dany Heatley, #2C Warren Peters etc.
Like I remember that summer and their first season, even with the lockout, there was such a revitalized buzz around the Wild. Especially when they finally made it back to the playoffs after 5 years of abject misery. Sure, Chicago spanked us in the opening round but we still won a playoff game at the X and it really felt like a page was turning.
Even if we never did break through, I struggle to see how those years would've gone any better if Parise and Suter hadn't signed with Minnesota. Fletcher wasn't very good at drafting, made a few decent trades but also some real clunkers.
Watching all these NHL stars sign for significantly less than the Kaprisov contract is..... frustrating. The Hughes negotiations speculation was in the same $17M AAV range as Kaprisov. I wonder if Guerin is not feeling that number any longer after watching Bedard sign for $15M and Robertson for $12M.
Feeling less and less like Hughes will sign a reasonable contract. Another $17M+ contract by the Wild will put them in a bad spot.
What he do? Not his fault the Wild gave him a ton of money
The Wild could have kept Suter through his contract expiration but chose instead to essentially cut him without a trade or financial compensation. That decision had painful consequences that essentially crippled the Wild for several years. In that light, the coaches and executive staff must have felt that keeping him was worse for the team than paying him.
From a pure talent perspective he would have been an asset, even if he had to play down the lineup. I don't know any of the details, but the mere decision to cut him loose while paying him to play somewhere else tells me something about what the Wild management thought about him. They no longer wanted to be in the Ryan Suter business under any circumestances.
Parise made sense as his role was diminishing (including being scratched in the playoffs) and he was unhappy about that.
Suter was still producing so all the rumor is that he was a locker room cancer. Had also seemed that way in Dallas with guys not exactly coming to his defense for some of the dirty play we saw out of him.
I also don't think its either of these guys' fault that they were given the contract. Would've been really interesting to know what other GMs were offering comparatively that compelled Wild brass to go all in on those 2
The only reason to go all in on those two is the belief that they would provide a core for a SC contender. They were wrong.
It also had a local vibe that would tend to energize a fanbase–which it did for a while. I remember seeing posters all over town after the signings. The fans were pretty juiced. But it was all a mirage.
mirage i think is a bit strong, given they went from 4 straight years missing the playoffs to 6 straight post seasons. I agree that just having those 2 on their contracts did not make them a legit cup contender. But it certainly did increase interest in a team that went 3 for its first 11 in making the playoffs to now making 12 of its last 14, despite the fact they've sucked in said post-seasons
moved to hear from the recruits thread as don't want to derail that topic board

trouble is that just isn't a reasonable comp. Bedard will hit UFA as a 26 year old where the cap may be 30-50 million higher and teams will be more than happy to give him a max deal length given they're getting him for his prime still. KK signed his at 29 and this will be his last chance to get a "mega deal". Kind of similar to Drai signing his what was the highest AAV contract prior (signed for his age 30 season).
The young guys know they're going to get another mega deal OR they're middle aged guys signing for shorter terms (McDavid, Robo) knowing they will still have their "prime" to try cash in heavily
For Hughes, there is just no comp that's signed recently. Makar was 9 mil back when the cap was drastically less and he was less proven. Bowen Byram just signed for 12.5 (lol). QH is an interesting one as he's going to be signing his 28 year old contract and this is his chance to max out if he wants that. Ditto on Makar signing his 29 year old contract. Think that's why you're seeing all these projections in the 16-17mil range because of how old they are when signing the deal and given by the time their contract hits, the cap will have gone up another 10mil (followed by another 10 the year after).
Agree it sucks seeing these other contracts come in well under the number KK signed for, but think the one that would sting the most would be Eichel prioritizing winning taking 3.5mil less signing for roughly the same time years wise (age and contract length) as KK

Patty Kane signed with the Hawks, $8M x 2yrs. I'm in Chicago and all the Hawks fans are super stoked today. Kinda suspect many of them haven't seen much hockey after Kaner first left...
Also, Devan Dubnyk ranks 2nd on the list of NHL goalies Kane has scored the most goals on. I guessed it right away lol; if it wasn't Dubnyk it definitely would've been Harding or Kuemper.

So while Redwings lose a free agent, Blackhawks get a player back, The Wild looking ok but they will not advance to far if they make it back to the playoffs
Aloha!
Leo Carlsson signed for 18 though that was due to the offer sheet by the Flyers forcing the hand of the Ducks. I've gotta imagine you're gonna see some bigger contracts than that in the next couple years though, McDavid took a discount and his contract will be up in 2 seasons, you gotta wonder if he regretted doing that and if he does it again. IDK how many of the other top 10 players need a new contract soon besides Makar.Watching all these NHL stars sign for significantly less than the Kaprisov contract is..... frustrating. Quinn Hughes is good but unless Makar is making 20 he shouldn't be making 17-18. It'll be interesting to see what happens I guess.

i will be very surprised if he re-signs in Edmonton as it currently stands. They did the smart deal and moved Nurse (lol wtf are we doing SJ?). I assume they're aggressive buyers at the deadline again but that team is going to be decimated going forward as their prospect pool is just utterly terrible. Given that, I suspect he'll get out as that team will be in complete rebuild mode at that point almost their whole roster over 30. Bigger question is... do they trade him next year if the team isn't looking significantly improved and likely to make a cup run, knowing he very well may walk?
On point 2, I would be quite surprised if he doesn't. Just the $ amount. Agree with other posters taht both Makar and Hughes should reset the dman market. I don't think the salary is that discrepant between them with Makar getting a slight nod as he at least can PK (though not super well from watching him). Production wise, don't think its remotely fair to stat compare as the Colorado group is much better than the Wild group (and his former Canucks group). Value wise to their teams, they're pretty well equal imo
Bigger question is... do they trade him next year if the team isn't looking significantly improved and likely to make a cup run, knowing he very well may walk?
Obviously getting something >>> nothing, but these kinds of potential trades always run into issues of uncertain value vs. practicality. Saw it with the late 2010s Rangers when people would occasionally suggest trading Lundqvist, but a generational player like that in a key position has such high value, very few precedents to set a realistic trade-market price, and the only buyers are contenders looking to fill one last gap and win a Cup. So their cupboards are bare and they will not part with much of their existing core.
