Never underestimate the greed of the university. Not that they are alone in that, but they’ve been finding ways to steal money as long as I can remember. 🤣Yeah Bob’s first year as coach I took dad and my son and was free, access to locker room and player lounge, heck I was thirsty and helped myself to a fountain selection of power aid type drinks. Great time! Great memories! It was a weekend day around mid to late September iirc.
The one we went to was a Friday during a week off for the team. It wasn’t too crowded so I’m guessing they have multiple.

They used to do it on a bye week, but I think the players didn’t like having to give up their free weekend, so the past couple years at least has been after a game.

You don’t have to believe me, but I double checked my calendar and it was February 20, 2026. A bye week. I think this one was only for people getting access through the Gopher Loyalty Program.

Guess they do more than one, that’s cool! I did not know that. (Then again I don’t have kids so I’m not necessarily seeking it out. 🤣) Maybe a separate loyalty one, which is nice so they can get more kids access.
State Fair ticket specials.. Pretty reasonable to get in the door to these games.

There is a chance we will spend Christmas/NYE in Minnesota this year instead of Thailand/Philippines, with my as of now likely best chance to see a non-exhibition game the series vs. Michigan on I think Jan 8 and 9.
When are we gonna get Lars on the homepage instead of Motzko???
I assume players are back on campus by now. Practices start next week?

From what I have heard it's Kwahs-nee-ka. That differs from a family with the same name here in Mankato that pronounces it Ka-vahs-nick-ah. If that breakdown makes any sense.
I am the official Iowa Hawkeye football fan of GPL!

If you go to the roster on this site or on Gopher sports, there are links in profiles with them pronouncing their names.

I was hoping for the traditional Czech and kva-zneech-ka. 😉
I wonder if it was at one time, and the family changed it many years ago to make it easier for people to pronounce.

Ha! That puck didn't quite go all the way over the goal line.

Possible, but all that probably changed was taking away the caron. Probably looked like Kvasnička.
Anyone have any insight into when non-conference home game times will be announced?

Exactly! Been thinking this for a while now. I thought everyone agreed a while back that this team “needed a fresh face” lol

I've spent almost my whole life near the Czech settlement of Bechyn MN. It's uncanny how many last names here end with ka. Interestingly, there is a town named Bechyne in the Czech Republic.

Whipple: “we’ve got something to prove this year.”
Gopher hockey hasn’t had a chip on their shoulder this big in a long long time. Excited to see what a reinvigorated group looks like.
I think our leadership group (Ziemer and Whipple's class) having the experience of being freshmen on a top-ranked, winning team 2 years ago will prove to be a really good thing. Even though the wheels fell off in spring, I'm sure they learned plenty of valuable lessons from all the highs and lows of that 2024-25 season.
No 3 year, whole-program rebuild to slog thru this time around for us 😀
Really like our leadership group this year and, as others have said, it’s encouraging to see the chip on their shoulder WITH the talent they returning and bringing in. I feel like we’ve seen either, especially the talent, with Gopher teams in the past but rarely the two ingredients combined.
Also, does anyone else get James Van Der Beek vibes when they see Whipple? Especially from the Dawson’s Creek days with Whipple’s flow haha.
This is not a knock at all, but Whipple was so soft-spoken in the begging of the interview I couldn't hear him clearly a few times.

I was JUST coming here to say I was so surprised how soft spoken he was. For how much he throws his body around, that was unexpected to me
Intrasquad scrimmage announced on 9/26. Love that they're doing this. Hopefully be able to make it down if I'm back from Indiana in time. If they'd put together the full team poster I could then go and have them sign, I would 100% move my flight to earlier if needed
@rau4skiumah2-0 I dont think that matters. What matters is having good players.

just like BU last year

Same. It through me off as well as that was the first time I’ve heard him speak. Get him some Red Bull! lol.
i love how his physical play started to surface last year and im really looking forward to seeing more of that as well as an expanded role as a leader on the ice.

Really like this idea. Will definitely be in attendance 👍
I see the U is looking for a new Public Address Announcer for the women's team. Does that mean last years PA is moving over to Mariucci and taking over for Jamie, who announced he was done with hockey after last year?

I’d assume Brian Sweeney is moving over from Ridder to Mariucci.

How about Duluth tickets?

Mini plans are on sale. Single games not yet
I didn't realize Jamie is done... That makes me very sad.
Got my tickets for the Tech series! Super pumped!

It also makes me sad, but I hope it allows us to have a consistent PA guy every night. I didn't like the fact that so many games have had subs the last few seasons.
Looking at the CHL numbers for Kvasnicka Humphries and Smith it's really impressive. How high should the expectations be for them.
Quote: Jankwi01Looking at the CHL numbers for Kvasnicka Humphries and Smith it's really impressive. How high should the expectations be for them.
Pre injury this is
.3-.5 ppg caliber players expectation and hope for closer to 1.
pretty good chunk of data that there is a big learning curve for the younger chl guys coming in that are not “superstar” caliber guys. Even some of the 1st rounders struggle. Advantage for each of these guys is they’re coming in older, so the physicality should be less pressing, but it’s still a huge adjustment
Expecting Humphreys and Kvasnicka to both hum around 20 points as first years, which would be solid.
Smith I have really high hopes for. If they use him as much as I think they will, 25+ points could be in order.

think the kicker to that is smith may not be available at full strength for multiple weeks to start the year
also, Gopher freshmen/soph to produce 25 points going back to 2000 (know the games played are different, but for context)
SO Rinzel (32), FR Rinzel (28), SO Mike Reilly (33), SO Nate Schmidt (41), SO Cade Farechild (33), SO Alex Goligoski (39), SO Chris Harrington (29), SO Keith Ballard (41), SO Paul Martin (38)
Given they're talking about Murr as the PP1 guy, I don't think that 25 points is likely especially given he may miss time given it takes a pretty good player or a really good team producing quite a few points (and playing a lot of games) just to get the point output
We’ll see on that. All we’ve heard is he was TBD to start the season on time and that was back in May.
Quote: maroon and goldWe’ll see on that. All we’ve heard is he was TBD to start the season on time and that was back in May.
This was back in June from local Everett post-season article on him
Smith said he will be out of the sling by the end of June and can resume skating in August. He’s targeting Nov. 1 as his full return to the ice. Many things will have changed since he last played, and although this season did not end how he wanted it to from an individual standpoint, he leaves Everett with no regrets.
I do not think they will rush him back. You want him in at full strength and ready to go building into later in the year. This is an old d core with plenty of guys who have played at a high level

That’s what the reporter quoted him as saying. Of course it all depends his pace of recovery and such and I’m sure it could be faster or slower, but I think Larson is going to respect the Ducks org and wanting him well healed and whole if he needs more time. We want him at top form come April, I’m less worried about October (think this team is absolutely built to withstand it early with the vets and see the skill peak late and be a threat come NCAA time)
