Of all the transfers out, I would be really interested to understand Clark. Feels like he would be our best 3C or 4C option but perhaps he has a higher vision of himself. We’ll see where he slots in at Sparty.
problem with Clark is I don't think he plays the hard style Larson has preached playing, especially down the lineup. I don't think he's going to fit super well at Sparty for that reason either. maybe he meshes well with some other guys who can do the physical work while he provides some speed
i'm pretty intrigued to see how Matt Cullen's work with some of these guys goes. Ziemer and Cullen both listed at center certainly is helpful for their NHL careers, but may be a bit of a learning curve as they get it straightened out

It’s refreshing to see a different thought process with a new set of eyes at the helm and with new assistants.
Guaranteed the lines would have been much more predictable if Motzko was back.
Top two lines are probably pretty dialed in.
Based on the 3 & 4th lines, it’s clear that larson is taking a “you gotta earn it” approach like he and Laylin both referenced in various interviews.
I Like putting Ziemer at center. He’s a beast and his power/skill should be an asset on draws (hopefully)
also like the two big guys with Wyatt
Sucks having Tarin out at first but should give the Swede an opportunity for some development which should pay off as the season progresses

Interesting tidbit from Larson's availability today..."anyone employed by the university is able to coach" so Cullen and Poderzay can be full coaches from what he said. Did I understand that correctly @eric-vegoe ?

That's indeed what Coach Larson said today... as he said it I gave a look at Jup because I'm employed by the University!

I could see Clark being the Shoudy replacement at State. Definitely a 4th liner in their lineup.

while only averaging ~7min or less TOI / game. shows how sneaky good that year's D-corps was.
Board used to rag on Whipple far more than Begley and Michel, the D3 transfer getting actual games. I always knew Whipple's Great Leap Forward was coming though, and I'm very curious to know what his offseason routine last summer was like

I feel like most of the criticism came from the fact he was recruited to be a LaCombe type offensive defenseman, and obviously never materialized in that sense.
Safe to say he found his role and is an asset to the team in his own way now.

Whipple has come out the other side of the crucible okay as a college defenseman, but I do think this rush to determine what kind of player kids are going to be as professionals as early as possible can be limiting.
Whipple was probably the top top Minnetonka Bantam defenseman in his age group. He went to SSM as a point per game defender with lots of offensive skill while still playing a physical brand of hockey... then he gets to the USNTDP and has to compete with Cole Hutson, Logan Hensler, Dakoda Rhéaume-Mullen, Sam Laurila, EJ Emery and Will Skahan for ice time. Whipple gets pegged as a defensive guy in his U17 year and that's his role. The U17 team won the gold that spring, but certainly impacted his personal development.
I think it says a lot about Whipple's intangibles that he's gotten to this point... but I wonder what kind of player he could have been if he wasn't put in a 'role' so quickly.
