looks like team was out at the United Heroes League obstacle course. For those doing Twitter sleuthing, you can probably try and figure out who's who in the video somewhat to see who's on campus
No Smith, which makes sense rehabbing from a lower body injury. An obstacle course is probably the last place he’d be.
Didn’t see Humphreys, which isn’t shocking either considering his season ended just last week. Would make sense to give him a little time off.

Didnt the Kitchener coach or someone say that Humphrey foot injury will take a couple of months to heal? I know he played, but still wouldn’t want to mess with it.
biggest problem last year was breaking the puck out of the Minnesota zone.
I've had some criticisms of Murr but this is one area where he will definitely shine on the ice.
I am the official Iowa Hawkeye football fan of GPL!
@snowcool08 I wouldn't either but we have a ton of good wings and no centers. We could probably survive without him early.
I’ve been hearing rumors that the Gophers still don’t have any good centers for the upcoming season. Can anyone confirm?

Smith's injury is upper body. Hopefully Humphrey's recovers quickly!

Next you are going to tell me that they have not released their schedule for this year yet...

Not very objective
Most of Bob's best teams weren't very deep at center after #1 anyways. Nelson (20pt/year era, not the hat trick every weekend super senior), Huglen, Walker, all of them were good enough 2/3Cs to get us to Frozen Fours.

you’re listing all guys who have had decent professional careers after being done here.
i agree with your premise you don’t need 3 or even 2 grade A scoring 1Cs. There’s just not a proven commodity on the current roster (or even that many guys who have taken a reasonable number of draws in college) who’s played like that so I can understand the angst
Cullen should help exponentially they’re as so much of being a good center is how you think they game and being consistent. Think we have several guys who can get there and be productive college centers in the mold of who you’re mentioning
you’re listing all guys who have had decent professional careers after being done here.
true, but it did take a while for all of them to hit their stride as college players. Even when Sammy was B1G frosh of the year, B1G was still really weak back then and he was always a streaky player. case in point- he didn't make the WJC team.
Although in hindsight its quite funny how bearish the podcast was on Sammy Walker for like all of 2020-22, his pro career has been pretty respectable like you mentioned. Likely the best pro from that 2018-19 freshman class
They announced a podcast, but it looks more like a weekly TV show? Either way, more access and availability cannot hurt.

Absolutely love this! Getting more and more eyeballs back on the program. There was a time when Gopher hockey being the center of attention was just a given and I hope we continue to see that mindset return more and more. Bob did a lot to help bring that back and I think Larson is going to be great at it as well. Winning is the best way for that to happen but things like this show, the team going to youth practices around the metro and the state, and the athletic department working to make it more affordable to go to games are all things that will continue to get Pride on Ice back where it should be.

Biased but I hope the program keeps making overtures to southern MN like Bob has, in addition to whatever extra attention Larson will likely devote to Duluth / greater 218 area.
I also love that we're getting this podcast, and I've been very envious of MSU, PSU, Michigan etc all doing weekly or semi-weekly video diaries following their teams on a day to day level behind the scenes. Maybe that can be next for us
@rau4skiumah2-0 literally winning is the only thing 90% of this fan base cares about.

it’s not just about winning but how you go about it all and doing it the right way on and off the ice. 2.0 explained that 100% dead on.
“Good pace, a lot of north and south, or it could be east and west, I’m not sure but either way…” Wooger
This is a tale as old as social media but whoever has to manage the Gopher hockey social media accounts is not getting paid enough. To be clear, I have no idea what their salary is but double it. Hell, triple it. Every tweet is riddled with comments from losers who are going on about how “the Gophers are losing every recruiting battle” and how “the Gophers need to go back to the WCHA” lol. One tweet about the new podcast called Pat an embarrassment, or something, to the program. But honestly, you know what? It’s my fault for even looking at the comments. I should know better. But come on people, lighten up and leave the poor social media manager, who’s probably some student, alone. It’s summer, let’s just relax and enjoy the off season.
Twitter is a hell hole. The way I see it, Minnesota being hands down the most scrutinized team in college hockey on social media signifies their standing nationally. It would be worse if no one cared.

it was so funny seeing Rand Cuckold take a random potshot at some innocuous Goldy tweet recently. Maybe the fact that his irrelevant clown college was gifted their only banner by an idiot ref in Tampa is eating away at him.

Very valid point.
Didn't HATE the bigger leadership groups, but I can say I LOVE the traditional 1 C and 2 A's. And I think they nailed it
100% !!
In my humble opinion giving out multiple C's and A's seemed like ego pandering which diluted leadership and accountability.
In my experience (coaching at the high school level), when coaches have a "leadership group" it means they didn't think anyone individually deserved to be a captain. Just saying there is another possible explanation than ego pandering.

PJ Fleck is going to be real upset to hear that

That was incredibly odd, although it does go to show that no matter how much opposing fans will tell you the opposite... Their eyes are always on Minnesota.
Looking at the schedule after playing at UMD the Gophers do not play a road series until December
Aloha!

Just looked at it again, I think moving forward we should always try to get a 2nd half schedule that is more home- & rival-heavy than our 1st half.
I'd rather compete w/ bball for fans in seats (versus football in the 1st half), plus bball often doesn't play Fri-Sat nights anyways. On-ice product will almost always be much better. Season storylines will have developed a bit. Get to ride some home-crowd juice into the playoffs etc.
Took a listen to the Pride on Ice pod. Most of the same stuff he’s been saying.
random tidbits I took is that right now is a voluntary camp. Would imagine that leaves some flexibility for after camp is over depending what happens with the draft, etc.
sounds like he wants to schedule premier teams which is nice. Mentioned wanting du on the schedule and we of Course have bc next year

It was most of the same talking points he’s been reciting on his press tour since spring. Excited to hear the following episodes where they can actually get into new stuff.
Also just so we GPLers know who to rag on, Brett said Martin & Laylin are handling the PK and Gordo & Lars are PP 😉

DuPont heading to Michigan.
Was a nice, unlikely dream while it lasted.
Hope they enjoy their 1-year rental.
Someone's favorite team just got better.
@dc4mvp they definitely will hes a great player.
Kind of like when they won in 2021-22 with that loaded team of Powers, Beniers, Hughes, Johnson, and company?

whats funny is you still forgot 3 more 1st round picks on that year's Michigan team (Beecher, Brisson, Samoskevich).
In hindsight it's pretty incredible how that Michigan squad pissed away the B1G reg-season title on the same weekend that we were beating the snot out of Wisconsin by a 13-0 total score (8-0 after the team already knew a B1G title was locked up, lol)

Broz potting goal number two against the Badgers that Saturday night as Jamie was still announcing the first goal and just minutes after Wisconsin had a goal disallowed AND it was officially announced that Michigan hadn’t won making us the out right champs was pure bliss. The place went bananas and the night only got better from there.
@rau4skiumah2-0 they won the conference tournament what are you trying to suggest?

if we had (a) 30-45 more seconds on the clock, or (b) minimally competent refs, Gophs likely win that B1G championship
@walker-barely-know-her but we didn't what is your point? That Michigan team wasn't that good? They made it to the Frozen Four and won their conference tournament, where is the disappointment?
Of course you credit Michigan just for getting to the FF.

Can't believe I'm re-litigating 4 seasons ago with you but here goes.
If you recall, in January of that year we lost (1) our reigning Richter goalie, (2) Knies/Faber/Meyers for 2 months to the Olympics, and (3) we were sitting at like, 12th in pairwise.
That we turned it around to reach the same exact Frozen Four that Michigan did w/ an equivalent (slightly better) conference trophy is a huge feat in and of itself.
I would rather be proud of the program's accomplishments instead of torturing myself by wallowing about how we haven't collected every single trophy and banner in every single season we've played. That's simply not how sports works.
@upnorthkid im not trolling. I just didn't understand what he was trying to say. Im guessing he's trying to suggest we are closer to Michigan than I think.
Saying that they definitely will win the league because they have a talented roster with all this skill is just kind of pointless. That’s why I said “just like 2021-22” when they a really talented roster. But they didn’t win the league. We did. Like Walker pointed out, with where the two teams were at in January of that year it’s a lot more impressive on our part and kind of embarrassing that they didn’t see it out. You’re right, Michigan won the league TOURNAMENT but we won across the whole season. That’s what I was getting at. But it really doesn’t matter since it was four years ago. More my point is granting a league championship and FF berth to any team, no matter their roster on paper, while we’re still June is ridiculous and waste of time.

A national title every single year is impossible. It's understandable for frustration to set in after watching your biggest rivals (that you abandoned for greener pastures) succeed beyond their wildest dreams for almost 15 years. Sad state of affairs when I'm rooting for Michigan and Wisconsin to win a national title.
