Yeah, I tend to watch games from a realist perspective these days, mainly because I have no control over the outcome and getting super invested in a bad team sounds like a good way to have a stroke lol. Everyone has their biases whether they’re reading a news article, watching a gopher hockey game, or watching a movie. For me I didn’t figure this team would be great and it’s exceeded my expectations in a bad way, idk if this is the least talented gopher team I've ever seen but it’s close. 2009 or 2015 are also in that conversation. As such I’ve always been watching this team with a heavy dose of skepticism and I’m not all that shocked with what I’ve seen. I try to look for positives and any good signs of development or good play from an individual level (Di Pasquo had a lot of nice saves today) and just have a good chuckle at some of the ineptitude I see.These games against Michigan and Michigan State are going to be very painful (and embarrassing), but showing the clear disparity in talent and speed is important in moving this program forward.
Hopefully tomorrow there’s some positive developments.

The NCAA and power conferences have already agreed to pay roughly 2.6–2.8 billion dollars in antitrust settlements over past NIL/compensation restraints, explicitly because those rules unlawfully suppressed the athlete labor market.
Further, Federal injunctions now bar the NCAA from punishing athletes or boosters for many third‑party NIL negotiations in the recruiting/transfer context, with courts signaling that further attempts to restrict those negotiations are likely illegal restraints of trade.
So yeah, it happens and the more the NCAA tries to reign it in, the more fines they are required to pay.
I think it hurts more that this is probably the best year the Big 10 has seen. And it just happens to coincide with the worst team we have had in a while. It would have been so fun to watch top teams compete against each other, instead I am going in to most games hoping we can clog them up and steal a couple points.
I focus more on individual players now. Ziemer is slowly rising my favorite Gopher's list. Kid is a leader and competes regardless of who is across from him. Love to see it
Really pulling for Hendrickson to start bagging a couple of his chances. He works his you know what off every shift, does a lot of the little things right, and is really fun to watch. Hope, for both him and the team, that the points start to follow and he gets rewarded for his hard work.
And lo and behold 2 years later he’s hitting Cooley on super crisp stretch passes for breakaways.
And a couple years after that he signed a $9 million AAV contract with the Ducks, their largest contract ever.

I know you love to troll Rube but yes there is a difference between being 40th vs 18th, the bad Lucia teams were at least winning a weak B1G conference and upsetting good teams like North Dakota sometimes. The difference between making the tourney and not came down to a game or two and while I didn't always love it (and was pretty vocal about wanting a change), they'd at least adjust their play to the talent they had and play more conservative and boring to frustrate more talented teams.
Motzko's teams I've watched underperform far too many times and there are some valid concerns about how his teams play and approach different aspects of the game, hell some of that was true even before he got here. I don't realistically think Bob is gone next year unless he wants to be but I'm also not gonna pretend that there aren't valid reasons for wanting that to happen. It just seems like Motzko needs other worldly talent to get good results and without it they don't have a shot to realistically do anything come March (and even when they did they underperformed imo).
Maybe Motzko can fix the defense in the offseason and Cullen gets here a year early (and they don't lose either of the two good underclassmen on this current squad) and the team looks the part again but there's a lot of things that have to go right for this not to be "just one bad season".
I get people are tired of the negativity but IDK what people realistically expect people to post after watching some of these games. There's just not a ton of positive takeaways.
They're 38th next to Sacred Heart and Holy Cross, people are just commenting on what they watch it isn't hyperbole. I get that there were some GPL posters who got banned or only posted when things are bad but I don't really see that being the case currently.

But you have to acknowledge that they are so far away from even being competitive. Saying there’s no difference from 17-63 is insane. I agree it’s one bad year but it’s one bad year that by the looks of it could turn into more than that if big changes aren’t made in the offseason.

I don't think it's impossible that Motzko could turn things around next year but this is the same guy that thought this group of Dmen was good enough to compete this year.

Losing 3-1 at a #2 isn’t like they just finished 4th at the Dairy Queen cup. I kinda thought this was supposed to be a growing pains kinda year that required patience. Not loving what I’m seeing either but believe this program will get on track somehow because it always does.
