As much as they promote “character” for the Hobey is seems to mean little in the voting.
The voters just proved its all about the points. Disservice to the man named Hobey Baker.

Bullshit. The voters that know all three Hobey finalists the best picked Kneis as the Big Ten Player of the year. And for good reason. He was the MVP of the best team in the Conference and Nation. THey could have picked Fantili but they passed.
Bullshit choice that was influenced by the East coast media who worships Michigan sports. WHy do you think Michigan played in the prime time spot last night instead of the #1 ranked team in the nation?

I'm pretty sure this is the first time the Hobey has been given to a skater who had more penalty minutes than he had points. To me, that speaks a lot to the player's character. But, evidently character doesn't count to the voters.

so how do you measure the complete player? If Fantelli had 50% more points than the next highest guy, I get it. I look at Knies & see: decent speed, strength to take pucks away & create opportunities. Great hands as well as decent defensive play. Penalty killer. Knies races back on the back check every single time. I do not see Fantelli as the complete player yet even though he has a few more points. My opinion.Fantilli was the right choice calm down people

The Hobey Baker is becoming more like the Heisman Trophy. Voters just vote on stats and popularity. Not the overall player and his character. Both Fantilli and Caleb Williams (Heisman) won on a popularity contest.

Heard Potulny on the radio this past week and he said Johnny Pohl not getting the Hobey really motivated the team in 2002. Hopefully similar results this year.
I disagree that it was a "popularity" contest. Fantilli was clearly one of the best players this year on the ice. Could you argue for Knies or Cooley, Sure, but Fantilli is clearly deserving to be considered one of if not the best player of the year.
With regards to the other "Character" factors, I don't think any of us fans, or even the Hobey award Voters for that matter, know the true "character" of all the players. How could we?

For example if Fantilli would of been the guy to throw the wheelchair down the stairs, then yes that definitely should disqualify him from winning. But the scrum/punch he threw on the ice would not disqualify him in my book. Cooley had that one major penalty that many called a "dangerous" play, but I wouldn't hold that against him for the Hobey.

I think Fantilli is a total douche but I’m not ready to disqualify him over it. If I were on the committee I would begrudgingly vote for Fantilli.

@idontknow the allegedly is a fairly significant caveat.
Basically my point is personally I cant honestly say that Knies or Cooley have significantly better character than Fantilli when it comes to considering their merits for the Hobey. I haven't met any of them.
As a Gopher fan I dislike Fantilli, he looked smug on the ice during some of his celebrations, and it is fun to root against players like that on the opposing team. But if I am honest with myself I don't really know anything about him.
Fantilli is also projected to go 2nd in the NHL Draft behind Bedard. Like him or not he scored the most points & that’s what the voters look at first. After Cooley & Knies (most likely) hoist the NC trophy Saturday night…I doubt either will give a rip about who won the Hobey.
