Yeah but he played for Harvard so he can go die.

Fox was terrible at the 4 nations plus LaCombe can kill penaltiesDon't think anybody 18 months ago had Comber as the second Gopher from that 22-23 team joining Faber in the Olympics over Knies and or Cooley, but he deserves it.
Pretty surprising, Adam Fox is objectively a better defenseman lol, and I’m the biggest former-Gophs homer around.
Fox is clearly the best American Dman and should be on the team, glad for LaCombe though.

That didn’t make it or? Overall?

Fox’s team is having a bad year and he’s been intermittently injured but both the advanced stats and eye test make it clear that Fox is #3 in the league behind Hughes and Makar
Fox is also hurt right now. He's one of the 8 best American defenseman for sure but he got kept off for his skating.
Yeah well these are also the geniuses who can't figure out that Jason Robertson should be on the roster and really think a 4th liner grinder is going to help us against Canada somehow. Fox being hurt does complicate things but when healthy the puck is in his own zone less that all but a handful of NHL Dmen.

There was a philosophy amongst the Canadian team in 2014 that 'skill adapts'. We will take the best players available and they can learn to play different roles that they generally do. Seemed to work out pretty well for them. 😉 Having Toews, Marleau, and Carter as your checking third line may be unconventional for these players but they are so competitive they will do anything to win, and they did. USA could have played Canada for 2 years and it never seemed like we were going to score. I do think its possible to be too clever when making some of these roster decisions, but the baseline is that every player Billy selected is a really good pro.

Guerin and team USA always seem to think they're going to beat a team loaded with offensive talent 2-1.

Add to it the head coach this year. I know it’s a short tourney and the coach doesn’t do much, but Sullivan’s record the last 4 years hasn’t been exactly stellar. Getting worse by the year.
Pittsburgh being in a rebuild isn't entirely his fault but anyone familiar with the team has a ton of valid questions about some of his more curious decisions and lack of accountability for bad veterans. Now he's on a new team and the results aren't good (admittedly Fox has been out most of the season which definitely doesn't help). Not sure if there are any better American coaching candidates.
Ollie Moore absolutely gets his ass kicked tonight.

goal, assist, SO winner all on his 21st bday too.
It’ll always be funny how nobody can score in the SO while wearing the M

Another former Gopher with a Gordie Howe hat trick!
I don’t think funny is the word I would use to describe our shoutout woes…😬
Usually you wait until the end of the night on your 21st to fight haha

The biggest thing with the Rangers this year has been Shesterkin not bailing the team out since he got injured this past month. He erases a lot of their mistakes as a club. Their position in the conference didn't change much but the point differential did. Plus for whatever reason they can't win at home.

I heard on KFAN yesterday that 55 years ago yesterday that Lou Nanne scored a hat trick in Montreal and beat the Canadians 6-5 in Montreal
Aloha!

Rinzel is in the AHL with Rockford with 2g and 8a in 19 games since getting sent down in early December.

Rinzel played last night---- Rockford v Milwaukee game. Sam was -2. -10 in 19 games so far.
Rockford leads the AHL in PIM and skate like a bunch of hacks, so I wonder if he's looking around thinking WTH?

its amazing watching chicago fuck up 2 first round dmen in one year (Levshunov has been awful this year)
Levshunov was always a crazy pick at #2 overall. Rinzel was a nice upside swing late in the first round that panned out for them. He’ll figure it out sooner rather than later. Just wish he did his figuring out at the U instead of Rockford😄
The real question is why Levshunov didn’t stay another year in NCAA, it was obvious he needed more seasoning

because Davidson is an idiot who thought he could develop him better in Chicago than he could be in the ncaa, same as with rinzel. Which isn’t surprising when you see he’s Canadian and all his work was with the Canadian jr leagues and ahl.
Lamber signs with the Rangers, very very happy for him

Jimmy is lighting it up lately.
Luke Mitts signs with Habs
Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced on Friday that the team has agreed to terms on a two-year, entry-level contract (2026-27 to 2027-28) with defenseman Luke Mittelstadt. Mittelstadt also signed a one-year, one-way AHL contract and will join the Laval Rocket for the remainder of the 2025-26 season

Good for Mitts. Glad to see him get into the AHL lineup for the year
Also worth noting that Luke signed a standard player contract too, not a try out contract. Good for him.

Whenever I see former Gopher in a pro sweater I swear they look bigger than they did in college. Make no sense.
And good for Lamb.
Skates have extra lift in pros.
I’ll post a higher res version tomorrow with names and other misc info.
Jackson LaCombe has reached the 50 point mark and is only the 6th Ducks defenseman to reach 50 points in a year.

Nice to see/hear Erik Johnson doing color for the Wild v dallas game.
He sounds a lot like PK Suban, I keep thinking PK is doing commentary
2022 - Erik Johnson
2023 - Phil Kessel
2024 - Kyle Okposo
2025 - Nate Schmidt
2026 - Mike Reilly in the final
If the Canes can pull it out it’ll be 5 cups in 5 years!

And would again be interestingly more than 10 years into their NHL career.
Aaron Ness calling it a career after 818 games in the AHL and 72 games in the NHL.
I am the official Iowa Hawkeye football fan of GPL!
Congratulations Mike Reilly on winning the Stanley Cup! Five cup winners in five years!
