Shoot sorry! I think I posted this in the wrong post. Meant this in the Former Players. Sorry
OK I guess I got it in the right post. Apologies for multitasking
Huglen has had two nice games in a row. 2As Saturday. First AHL points. 1G 1A Wednesday. First AHL goal.
I don’t think he plays with enough pace to get a call up but boy I’d be excited if he did. Fan favorite when he was here. Chatting with Gopher fans over the years, no matter how cynical, seems like everyone loved Huglen.
Something about those #7’s at the U. Always fan favorites.
ah man. Huglen was always one of my personal favorite Gophers all 4 seasons he was here. Uplifting story of returning from that horrible injury he suffered in juniors, fit right into every role Bob ever put him in, a real Swiss Army knife as a player, he’d randomly whip out some absurd dangles and no-look passes while also being great defensively. Deserved a much better ending to his time here than what he got. Pitlick-Huglen-[insert] together on a line always kept me glued to the TV.
Rinzel playing as the 7th defenseman for the Blackhawks now. His minutes are being slowly reduced. Will be interesting to monitor.

Cooley with yet another hatty tonight. Oh, and a fourth goal, and an assist on the only other goal not scored by him. 🏒🔥
To think he could still be here.
Fastest skaters in the NHL — McDavid #1 (24.61mph), Cooley #2 (24.38mph)
Saw this and was a bit oddly surprised, because IMO Cooley’s top-end speed went under the radar when he was here compared to his possession and playmaking abilities. Thinking about it now, his skating was most noticeable when he’d change speeds on a dime, rather than simply beating guys to pucks etc.
I wonder how much of me not noticing that point A to B speed was because his IQ was so high that he never put himself in positions where he needed to book it to a loose puck or to cover his man.

Watch the the third Utah goal; about 2:50 into the video below. He’s so fast.

I know he was never going to be in college long. Heck we were a little surprised when he was initially going to come back for his sophomore year. But it’s crazy to think that he could be a senior right now.
Remember…both Faber & Cooley initially were committed to Notre Dame. Both have evolved into NHL All Star caliber players.I know he was never going to be in college long. What an efficient stride! +the ENG to make it 4-1, flashbacks of the BU semifinal game where he was unstoppable all game

Matthew Knies, the one man army/scoring machine:
I think one of Knies or Cooley will make the Olympic team, looking more likely for Knies at the moment.
Matthew Knies, the one man army/scoring machine:
That was great. Goes down on a knee and gets back up without losing momentum, just shoves a guy out of the way like it’s no big deal and throws one in backhand. I hope at least a Gopher or two make the Olympics!
Knies is a physical specimen/beast! That’s the type of play guys like him make. As far as the Olympics (with Billy G being the USA GM) Faber will be selected. After that, it’s very iffy whether any other Gopher makes it…maybe Haula 💵 for Finland?Matthew Knies, the one man army/scoring machine:

interesting… Even in his two years as a Gopher he’d been a very streaky player, and that’s much harder to overlook over an 82-game season vs. a 40ish one.
Ollie Moore is still up with the big club right? Might have to catch a Hawks game while the Gophers are on break and tix are still like $20.

AJ Michelson is on the coaching staff for Apple ValleyBurnsville Hockey.
Fiesty Kniesy
He scored an empty netter as well for his 11th.
Faber makes the US Olympic team. I think there was consideration for Knies and LaCombe but they didn't.
Sam Rinzel hasn't scored a point in his last 8 games in the AHL. He is minus 9 in those 8 games.

think if you would've asked the Hawks after telling them they'd border on contending this year if they wanted Rinzel to come in last year, it would've been much more a debate.
Rockford is also just bad, which makes sense given they're pulling all their borderline talent up to the NHL to try contend. However the fact that he's not a call up with how many guys they've got out on D would to me tell me they should've left him down, especially when they're content letting Levshunov log almost 20min/game while being -16 and with half his points on the PP.
Imagine Davidson is under some pressure with 4 straight losing seasons at the helm and that had something to do with it. That he's been given the amount of leash he has with how Guerin is treated here is interesting. We'll see if he has a job next year if they crater again
I did not know the story about Grant Potulny getting into a pre game fight in the 2002 national championship game, I just listened to the 299 pod cast with Nick Angell

Who was the other guy? I'm kind of surprised that G$ of all players wouldn't want to be the guy standing in front.

I think you're probably right about that but I viewed him as a physcal, chippy, edgy player with a decent skill set. Was it in 2003 he scored the first goal of the game?

I was coming to post the same thing… Now my daughter has a reason to watch the Olympics… lol!!!
We had Paul Martin on the Chasing MacNaughton podcast, thought some of you here might be interested in our conversation:

Don't think anybody 18 months ago had Comber as the second Gopher from that 22-23 team joining Faber in the Olympics over Knies and or Cooley, but he deserves it.

Pretty surprising, Adam Fox is objectively a better defenseman lol, and I’m the biggest former-Gophs homer around.
