29 from PSU is still wondering what happened on the GWG.  Cooley pulled the invisible man move on him

Cooley on that winning goal was just sick, and it wasn't just the final spin move it actually started even earlier.  Then the vision to pass instead of shoot?

This team feels like it's on a mission.  They missed a lot of passes for much of the game, but they never looked beat, frustrated, tired and there was no lack of effort.  Just sometimes you need bide your time and remain patient.  Fun game.

A road swept against a team who was Pairwise #5 starting the weekend is sweet. ?

Outshooting Penn State at Pegula now that is something REALLY special!!!! ?

This team is accomplishing amazing things.

This game reminded me of the game a few years ago when Kloos tied it up and REM won it in OT.

I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.

I called it so far, per GPL Podcast: Win, and OT Win. We're 75% of the way there....

I dunno if you can look back on GPL Podcast comments, but I stone-cold called this series. I shoulda bought a lotto ticket.

They were really giving it to that line all weekend. I assume because they are the top dogs and Cooley is from their backyard.

I’m just gonna say it. I really like the PSU student section. They’re engaged and enthusiastic, and I didn’t spy a single middle finger on any of our celebrations towards them. (My guess is I might find one if I go look hard enough, but they weren’t front and center like you know who) They keep it fun win or lose.

Plus, I’ll never forget how they got this down to the locker rooms last season:

Def credit to the students. They are always loud, in the game, and don't seem to be disrespectful at all.

My how times have changed. When Penn State went D1 causing the start of the Big Ten hockey conference a lot of people were saying it was killing college hockey. Now we are complimenting them almost seeming to say having them in D1 is a good thing.

Does this mean people are warming up to the Big Ten hockey conference?

IMO the potential for other Power 5 schools especially from the PAC 12 exists that could further change college hockey.

College hockey is growing.

Gonna lose some teams, though. AK, AL, etc but will and are adding teams like Long Island and Lindenwood. It's shifting, but may not grow for a few years.

Yep… there pounding on the glass gets a bit annoying. Though after Knies game winner there really was nothing from the students. At the :puke: there would have been a dozen middle fingers.

I think they'll make the Frozen Four in Tampa. After that, they’ll need some puck luck and their absolute A level game to finish the title quest. It certainly can be argued this is their most talented team since 2003.

Are the post game pressers anywhere? I don’t see either last night or tonight on the rink live YouTube site.

No Rink Live YouTube this weekend that I could find. @Jupiter has audio from Bob and a couple of players last night with a guy from the U asking the questions on his twitter page. I have never tried to find the post game radio stuff after the fact so I'm not sure if that is available.

#KNIES4HOBEY

Knies is certainly a worthy candidate for the Hobey. He is 2nd in the country in goals with 20.

He also might be the worst player on his line. ?

Cooley is 4th in the country in points, Snuggy is 5th in the country in points, Knies is 13th in the country in points. Come on Knies quit holding back the line. Cooley and Snuggy are setting you up all the time how about you return the favor some times and get your assists up? ?

Cooley - 31 games (15 goals, 29 assists, 44 points)

Snuggy - 32 games (19 goals, 24 assists, 43 points)

Knies - 32 games (20 goals, 16 assists, 36 points)

They've put up these numbers while playing the 3rd hardest schedule in the country. Notre Dame is #1 and Michigan #2. The main reason the Gophers aren't #1 is both those teams played us 4 times while we are unable to face ourselves 4 times. ?

Pretty good for a pair of freshmen and a sophomore.

EDIT: The Gophers should split up into 2 teams (Maroon and Gold) so they can improve their strength of schedule by being able to face themselves. They both play a full schedule so the Big Ten can have 8 teams. This would have another benefit in creating a tighter conference title race rather then the 15 point gap between 1st and 2nd place like there is now.

Maroon and Gold would likely be neck and neck the whole season with Maroon just eeking out first place in the Big Ten over Gold on the 8th tiebreaker. They of course would be 1 and 2 in Pairwise.

Penn State fans sitting in an arm chair with their monocle and pipe getting to the bottom of why they’re losing more games in the second half than the first half. Could it be you ran out of Atlantic hockey teams to play? No that can’t be it.

Thats awesome and I agree they seem like a good student section that is passionate and not obnoxious by drunk college student standards.

I did like when Knies scored yesterday and slapped the glass with both hands right in front of the one student he was staring at, and the student clearly didn’t know what to do and was like “yes sir ? “ ?

I think it was Vegoe who said in the podcast that this team played last weekend like they were waiting for the postseason to begin.  This weekend our boys played like the postseason was already here.

If PSU was mad going into tonight, they're going to make Wisco regret being born next weekend, especially when the latter's only 3 wins away from the Kohl Center have been out of conference.

It doesn’t take giving up 5/6 points to Minnesota get ready for wisconSIN at home. It wasn’t like PSU was hands down the superior team Minnesota came in and shocked the college hockey world. PSU is going to win both and make the BADGers go 0-12 on the road in the BIG.

No cuz they have to string together 2 good games in a weekend. Maybe, and this is a big maybe, they could do some damage in the one and done stage of the tournament.

My favorite line from last nights game was when Cappy said Gadowsky told them Penn St tried to “out skill” the Gophers on Friday night. Cappy chuckled and said that didn’t work too well.

That is a recipe for disaster when facing the Gophers. Your only chance is to make it an ugly game and hope the refs allow you to interfere, hold, and hook.

Of all the teams they have played so far, only Michigan can go toe to toe skating with Minnesota.

Minnesota's top line is a lot for any team to handle.

Bingo, Michigan is really the only other team that can hang with us skills wise, but us vs them, their skill drops off at more of a curve than ours does. I'll give the football helmets where credit is due, they have a good team. I want a rematch in the BTT Title game against them.

It shows the strength of playing the B1G teams this year as Penn State is 2-7-1 since Jan 1 and is still #7 in the pairwise.

Exactly. It makes sense for Michigan to play run and gun. Penn State… not so much.

My thinking wasn't so much about whether PSU would sweep next weekend; there isn't much doubt about that.  It's more that they're going to take out their frustration from this weekend on Wisco.  It is 5 days away, so they'll probably have a workman's attitude about it, but after an embarrassing loss and a heartbreaker, I'm guessing they're going to want a big win of their own and the only team they have left to face is lowly Wisco.

I think Denver is up there skill wise.

I hope Motzko is in the ear of every head ref from here on out pregame telling them the opponent is going to clutch and grab all game long and they need to call it fairly. There is a reason the Gopherrs have so many fewer penalties and it's not due to ref bias but a skill disparity

Key to hampering MN is taking their defensemen out of the forecheck.  Teams who do that can stifle MN. PSU did that pretty well in the first period but MN kept adjusted pretty well in the 2nd/3rd.

Of course you also need to stop the transition....

I'm still in amazement of the last 2 goals vs Penn St. On the tying goal the fact that Knies knew he had to be in the position he was at near the side of the net for any potential passes or rebounds is remarkable. On the GWG, Cooley's charge towards the net was like the one Knies did vs the Whioux, but he had the vision to know Knies was open and coming down the right side ready for the pass. Just a work of art. Everytime the 92-89-81 line steps on the ice I expect something to happen.  We are lucky to have them.

The way this season has gone an OT winning goal from that line on April 8th wouldn’t surprise me…

Is there a clip of Fish pulling Cooley out of the scrum on Friday?

I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.

Love it! Absolutely love it! Everything about that sequence. Cooley sticking up for Fish. Fish sticking up/protecting Cooley. Snuggerud jumping to stick up for his boys. Always a good sign when you see everyone on the team, in particular your top guys, not being afraid to stick up for each other. *Just as long as they don’t take any dumb penalties*

The opposing teams know Cooley has a bit of a hair trigger and definitely goad him a bit. He’s been better about it as the season goes on. We’ve seen Snuggy and Knies insert themselves and push Cooley away a few times too.

I would have been fine if they took a penalty in that situation, up by 4 and seeing Cooley coming in to stick up for Fish. Yeah you don't want that happening on the regular but in that moment I'm not opposed.

He has been better but he totally crosschecked a dude early in that game just after the whistle and the refs ignored it.  He has a temper and I would bet PSU was getting under his skin about being a local boy.

Though I've noticed most of the "Ben Blood's" and "Joe Finley's" of whatever team have a player or two who need to show off their testosterone levels and go after Cooley.  Give him a few whacks with their stick, push him, chest bump him.  Cooley just needs to skate away and not get involved. While Cooley is in the NHL, those guys will be selling dictionaries and steak knives door to door.

Keep your stick on the ice...

@handyman Yes--I was surprised there was not a call on that.
