Take this with a grain of salt. I have no idea who this guy is or if he has any credibility. But I saw this on a Gopher Hockey Facebook group regarding Faber and a separated shoulder.
I wouldn't put too much stock in social media groups, especially on fb. He may or may not be right. Though 99% of the stuff I see and read on social media falls on deaf ears unless it's a reliable source or someone proves themselves not once, not twice, but three or more times. Which we have come across a couple times on GPL.
I looked at the guys track record on the rubes group and he asked some dumb questions that my 9 year old could find by checking an app or the net in 5 seconds.

I’m very familiar with shoulder separation recovery and it’s time period. He’ll be ready to go for NCAA playoffs if not Big 10 tournament. Obviously didn’t seem very serious.

Also, being that he wasn't in a sling or immobilizer.

I assume there must be many different degrees of separated shoulders then? A separated shoulder injury sounds horrific and I can't imagine going back out for a few shifts after one. Is that the injury that Dalvin Cook seems to deal with every year?
Yes there are; grade 1 is just a sprain or stretching of the ac joint, grade 2 is a partial tear of the ligaments, and grade 3 is complete tear of the ac joint. Let's hope for grade 1.
yeah if it’s grade 3 (provided he even has a separated shoulder), he’d be done for the year. Grade 1 he could probably play vs OSU. Grade 2 probably looking at BTT time if his recovery is typical
@steve-mn With the playoffs and all, I’d agree. They won’t increase their RPI much playing most of the teams coming up (although next up is #10 Colgate). But there are too many games left to call it yet.
More speculation.

That guy is pretty close to the program if I recall correctly. He's probably speaking (or tweeting I guess) with actual knowledge.
Week to week is exactly how I’d describe a separated shoulder. I think we’ve put the pieces together.

I’m not worried. This team can play 4-5 games without him. He’ll be ready for the important time of year.
Feels like this is a pivotal moment in this Gopher hockey season. Not that I am saying it is do or die, but feels like this team can either use the loss as motivation and really start building momentum or continue the inconsistent streak. Hoping it is the former.

Agree but I’m not gonna panic unless they get swept. Most of us are expecting a split at Pegula right? Gophers are 8-10 there all time.
No question the last 4 games are all challenging, but this team is supposed to be legit right? No reason they can’t go 4-0 if they play their game.

Indeed. Not saying by any means that it is time to panic, but it feels like an important moment. Kinda like last season when we found out Laffer was leaving and we had three guys going to Olympics. The team went on a serious run, including sweeping PSU at Pegula. We road that momentum into Big Ten and NCAA tourneys. Would be great to see that type of response again.
Audio from Faber being on BTN a little while ago. Crude phone recording of my TV.

Michigan State came off a bye week and got rocked at Mariucci Friday night. We looked incredibly out of sorts on Friday in Madison coming off the bye week. Penn State is coming off their bye week this weekend. Jump on them early and bury them on Friday.
Chesley and Faber will both miss Penn St series per The Rink Live

I am sure it's been explained and I missed it. Why is Staudacher red shirting? Just a glut of D talent?
Well that is less than ideal.
Next man up.
Johnson-Mittelstadt
Thomas-LaCombe
Koster-Fish

Yep. Over recruited the position as some players came back that weren’t expected to. I like it tho he’ll be a nice veteran option next season and all 3 freshman d will have a full season of experience under their belt.

Chesley out until playoffs, which I assume means Big Ten playoffs and not NCAA playoffs?

Not much else from the media availability than the news about Chesley and Faber as tweeted above. The Jess/Bob awkward exchange this week revolved around the potential Ohio State arena. Koster's answers seemed more cliche than his normal responses. Maybe more focused for this weekend? Dumb Jess question #2. Jess asked LaCombe if they are going to be cheering for Ohio State tomorrow night, and Jackson said they are just concentrating on their own team.

This is, of course, the right attitude.Jess asked LaCombe if they are going to be cheering for Ohio State tomorrow night, and Jackson said they are just concentrating on their own team.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?

The only time to ask this is if they are sitting on the bench after the last game of the year watching a game on the scoreboard hoping for a potential outcome. Asking this question before the end of the season is asking for bulletin board material. Just stupid. I like Jess, but there is usually a couple of head scratching questions each week.

After more “research”, Michigan lost 7-2 coming off their bye week and OSU lost at home to Penn State coming off theirs. Seems to be a pretty obvious recurring theme.

I get the sense that Brock might even be back next weekend for Ohio State. Bob mentions he hopes/thinks “it will be a short time without him”
Interesting to note the Gophers have only played 2 games on the NHL size sheet in the second half, with their other road trips being to St. Cloud and Wisconsin.
Gophers are 8-3-1 on the NHL sheet all year counting Bemidji.
Lions just got another shot and now have four to the Gophers zero.

I heard @thomps and the rest to the Mariucci game day crew is being flown into Happy Valley this weekend for 'continuing education' training on keeping track of shot totals.

Hoping for a full 60 minutes of ice time both nights. No let up until winning the Frozen Four.
With the Big Ten title now clinched I hope Barto gets a chance to play this weekend.

I agree. Would love to see him in either Saturday's game or next Friday.

I’d love to win 2 games. So probably Close both nights. Might be an unpopular opinion.
Personally I’d play Close all the way through and keep the hammer down for that #1 overall seed. He’s going to have a full bye week anyways.

If Barto happens to play the whole game next Saturday (Senior Day) that would seem to mean Close is coming back next season which with the Covid free season rule is a possibility.

It's not about getting Close some rest it is about getting Barto some game action in case he happens to be needed in the playoffs.
Thought we already ruled that out with the Airey commitment. I guess it still is possible.

I think it is important for the team to have the confidence that they can win with either goalie if needed.

If the two goalies next season are going to be Barto and Airey then I believe any game Barto plays this season is also good experience for next season.

Put Barto in if there is garbage time.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
Barto isn't getting a start.
I have a thought about the #1 overall seed but I decided to post it in the NCAA thread since that is likely a better place for that.

I get that but this team/ coaches should be 100% focused on closing out this year and setting ourselves up for success in the playoffs. This is our best chance at a title in how long? Why are we worrying about next year?
My thoughts at least.

I agree with you. My main reason for wanting to see Barto get some game action in the regular season is about this season (in case he is needed in the playoffs). I was just stating this as an extra bonus.
I completely forgot that Michigan was playing tonight.
It would certainly help to know that Bartoszkiewicz is kept warm and give the skaters the additional experience protecting him before we head into the postseason, but I don't know if I'd do it this weekend. Maybe give him Saturday if things go really well Friday, but with both Faber and Chesley out, I'd want to give the blue line the best goaltending they can get behind them.

The vast majority of programs aren't worried about getting their #2 playing time. 30 programs have a #1 starter with 25 or more games played, another dozen are at 20-24 some of which are from programs that schedule fewer games. I understand the sentiment but NCAA coaches don't seem to agree by and large.
