The vast majority of the Gophers shots were from out by the blue line and not good scoring chances. Quality chances were few.
I could go for another Cooley heartbreaker at this point…
World Jrs and a flu bug has A LOT to do with it… not worried.

Notre Dame is just tackling guys and no penalty!!! Seriously!!!! What is the point of having skill on your team if the other team can just tackle guys with no penalty?
End of 4, tied at 2.

It’s a long season, there will never be a year where the team gives 100% effort every single game. Also I think today execution is more of an issue than effort.Regardless of outcome, I am a little concerned about the uninspired play over the last 3 games. I get last weekend they were dealing with some fatigue as well as illness, but they have just seemed off tonight and looking like they have concrete in the breezers.
Also, as a not very elite hockey mind, is it a coaching issue or a player-type issue that prevents the Gophers from being able to break through these teams that work it outside and clog the lanes for passing? Been very evident for the last 3 games.
The Gophers have hit two posts and a cross bar. Yep Notre Dame is out playing us. ?
Too many men on the ice for ND on their last exchange. Players playing the puck before their teammate was off the ice.

Game over, 2-2 OTT. ND wins the shootout 1-0.

Shootout deployment was interesting ?
O needs to figure it out.
Strange choice of players for the shootout ?
Strange choice of players for the shootout ?
Agreed. Not thrilled with the 3 shooters chosen - Nelson, Snuggy & Cooley in that order if it were up to me.
Nelson did just about everything but score today.

I'm surprised Cooley wasn't one of the three. I can see why Snuggy and Knies may not be their best guys in a shoot out.
Coach said Nevers, Brodz, and Pitlick have been their top guys in practice when they've done shoot outs.
In the postgame interview, he said they are the best 3 in their practice shootouts.
The Gophers have been in 13 Big Ten shoot outs and are now 2-11. Ugh!!! Thankfully playoffs games aren't decided by shoot outs.
Poor effort tonight. Were fortunate to get something out of a game we probably didn’t deserve anything from.
Prime example of playing a team who are so very average but come this time of year, they should be well aware they’re gonna get the best from every team regardless of records.. I know guys are getting over bugs/viruses, etc but gotta dig deep. Hoping for a more convincing effort tomorrow.
As always… Go Gophers!
Gophers tie on the road. Stuff happens. Not their best effort, but they will come out firing tomorrow. On the bright side, Eeyore isn't having a melt down on here. Seasons over. Fire Bob. Wait, we are still #1 in pairwise as of now? never mind...
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
I saw this being a 4-5 point weekend. I think we’ll be better tomorrow. Tbf I didn’t think we were awful tonight but as Bob said, we just ok and we have to be better than ok. Tbh going into tonight this game worried me. I was worried that after an emotionally and physically exhausting series against St Cloud we would see a let down game like we did Friday at OSU after the UND series. Tonight wasn’t our best but it was much better than that game against Ohio State. Let’s come out hot tomorrow, get the win, get home, and continue to get healthy.

He is the coach, so he should know. Sometimes your best individual players are not the best at shootouts. Snuggy missed a penalty shot this year. I have zero problems with who he sent out.

This is a hockey in general problem especially when the refs let teams clutch, grab, interfere, hook and in this game tackle.
Hockey is a beautiful game when the refs make both teams skate and use their speed but when the refs allow teams to slow the game down it becomes a boring defensive game that almost always ends low scoring where one break decides the games. Today it ended 2-2 and went to a shoot out.
How Notre Dame only got one penalty in the game and had a 3 power play to 1 advantage I will never know. Notre Dame scored a power play goal with 4 seconds left on the power play which was huge.

I agree. That is why they do shoot outs in practice to get experience doing them and determine who is the best. I was just stating I would have guessed it would include Cooley now we know although it's certainly possible there is a switch next time.
To the people getting worried that with all of our firepower we’ve only scored 4 goals in the past 3 games, that’s allowed to happen. A week ago the Gophers needed to “learn to play in tight games”. So which is it? I don’t care how talented we are we’re not going to score 5+ goals every game. There’s another team on the ice and the past three games both of the teams have been the kind that can play us tight. We knew the series against Notre Dame in November was unusual and it’s usually like this. While tonight was not our best and it was disappointing, we can also look at the fact that even not playing our best while on the road our boys still created some chances, didn’t give up, and got two past a stingy team.
I don’t mind 3x3, but a SO is 110% a gimmick.
Keep your stick on the ice...
The Gophers even after these last three games of not scoring many goals are 2nd in the country in goals. Knies and Snuggy are in a little scoring slump. Knies has been sick and Snuggy is a freshmen who just got done playing 9 games in 14 days he was bound to have a slump at some point. Every season there is a period where the goals dry up. If the Gophers have an issue with scoring goals then everybody but Western Michigan also has this problem and the Broncos are a whopping 3 goals ahead of the Gophers on the season.
BTW over the past three games the Gophers are 1-1-1 with the games being against the #3 & #17 teams with two of three games being on the road.
Way too many pedestrians tonight. Top line didn’t show up until later in the game. Don’t know why you would put Snuggy and Cooley on the PK when neither are interested in defending. At least we got some Pairwise % with that effort.
Don’t know why Notre Dame was celebrating like they won something. Disaster for them to let slip a full Pairwise % win away. That’s what they needed.
Gophers have a huge bullseye on their back and they need to come ready every game.
Is Jess not at the game since there was no Rink Live postgame video?

I saw a Gopher team not win a Friday game for a month win a National Title. A tie on the road barely moves the needle and does not worry me. Teams go through slumps...
Lots of missed shots tonight. Nice effort to get out of there with a tie tonight. They will no doubt play better and win tomorrow night. Go Gophers!
I thought the gophers were decent, but not great. Clanking two pipes hurt. Still 1st in the pairwise. Win tomorrow night and all is good.
Was happy to see Kurth moved up in the 3rd period. Knies needs to get going.
Watching paint dry or Notre Dame hockey?
Take 4 points out of South Bend and I think we’ll all be happy with that.
Keep your stick on the ice...
Not sure what anyone has seen so far this season to "expect" a road sweep. Yes I realize the Gophers are on paper the superior team, and they've had some consistent success vs ND, but I'm not convinced the mid-season 'hangover' isn't still in play and this is a road series vs. a well coached conference opponent. I believe it's a legit outcome, but it's nowhere near guaranteed.
As I was saying...
I'm still pissed at the no call when Cooley had the puck deep in OT. It was text book obstruction hooking/holding - and a classic case of a ref calling the scoreboard.
If ND went down and scored after mugging Cooley to kick the puck loose, that would have been sad. That's why as a ref you have to call an honest game. NOT calling a penalty can seriously backfire and end up penalizing the wrong team - twice!
Clearly only one team was allowed to get power plays tonight.
Just put the shots on net boys, they will go in.
Seems easier said than done with this group. I watch these guys and feel they should get 6 every night.
Some guys I’d like to see get on the scoresheet tonight. Snuggerud, Lamb, and Kurth. Brodzinski should score tonight as well. He needs to get amongst the goals in 2023 after lighting it up in the first half of the season. I’m predicting a better game tonight from the Gophers but it’s still against Notre Dame and that means it could be another tight game. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s 3-1 Gophers with the third being an ENG.

Could be another tight one. ND played well enough to win last night and ended up with a tie.
Minnesota had one very lucky goal and a seeing-eye goal to tie the game with under a minute left. ND might be sore about letting that game slip away.
The Gophers never looked all that interested last night until late and then very nearly olwon it in OT.
I thought Chesley had another solid game. He has really stepped it up the past dozen games or so.
The Farm Kid was 11-5 on face-offs. He is having a great year in the dots.
Snuggy struggled a bit last night. Maybe he is a bit worn down. Just needs to play through it.
Notre Dame played how we knew they would. Need to find more space and get pucks to the net for rebounds. Too many easy save for the ND goalie.
Need to score a couple of early and make the Irish chase the game.

a win tonight will give them 4 out of 6 points. Very acceptable.
From Bob's appearance on Beyond the Pond--
Talked about the Eveleth trip.
Huge goal from LaCombe last night.
Playing ok, not on top of it yet.
Need to get their fight on. Getting there.
Easier to go from large sheet of ice to smaller than vice versa.
Doesn't like the 16 days off for Christmas break.
Thought Cooley was their best player last night.
