Who nowadays calls a phone number because they want to listen to an automated or AI system and then have to navigate a dozen prompts to figure out how to talk to a human? If I can’t figure out my problems online, I call because I want to talk to an actual human for help! And why are all the prompts even necessary because you’re going to ask me to verify all the same info again anyways before we can discuss my account! 😡

I tried a few months ago, but the "store phone number" listed is a general Best Buy call center number, and they always insist they can help you and refuse to transfer you to the store. I'm actually, very seriously not sure if they even have phones in the store...

You can’t talk to a human about your big ten streaming account either. 😂 (and emailing to get a quick answer before something is over is not gonna happen). I finally figured out how to talk to someone at Amazon, but boy do they make it hard to find.
Sadly it’s becoming increasingly common to eliminate the human element as much as possible from a lot of businesses to save $ and increase profits, which seems to be a really hot trend at the moment…

Actually saw some Northern Lights tonight in the middle of suburbia, despite the light pollution. It was only one big pink swath that lasted about 30 minutes, but it was something. Didn't expect that. Seeing some pic from friends and yeah, they were strong tonight.

This years Black Friday gluttony and materialism seems down. Was out running errands and the parking lots aren’t packed and roads aren’t overly busy.
We made a similar comment while out and about. The craze years ago used to be flat screen TVs. Now everyone has one so no need to fight for it anymore. The deals also weren’t very good. Combine that with being able to sit on your couch and get the same deal online, there’s no reason to go out.
I drove past Rosedale (WB 36) around 6 and the parking lot looked like a mob scene; cars standing still on the perimeter road and Fairview looked nuts, too.

It's all online now. I did make the rounds to my local Hopkins haunts for the "bonus gift card" deals that most every restaurant/brewery is doing nowadays. I go there anyway, might as well get the free money.

a historic building in Minneapolis that was the former Minneapolis Fire Station 19, and it is relevant to the University of Minnesota Board of Regents because of a proposed redevelopment project. The building is part of a larger plan in the Stadium Village area.
The Project
The University of Minnesota Foundation (UMF) is pursuing a major redevelopment project called the East Gateway Project, which aims to transform the eastern edge of the campus. The Board of Regents approved a resolution to move forward with the project, including transferring control of land to UMF to facilitate the development.
The properties included in this project area are the former Station 19 building, Stub and Herb's, and Raising Cane's, among others. The project is a public-private partnership between the UMF subsidiary and a developer.
I remember in the Golden days tickets were $5.00, you could get a pass out receipt and leave Mariucci arena during intermission go to Station 19 for a drink maybe stay there for 2nd period watch the game on tv and go back to the rink for the 3rd period 😎
I know the Station 19 site has been for sale for a while for redevelopment. Not sure if it has been sold yet. The thing that concerns me is if both BWW and Stubs close, it takes away a couple of options for pregame get togethers.

Yeah, I don't think the students are asking for the new shiny restaurants/etc. They're asking for new shiny rooms to live in, hence all the re-development of new student housing, and that keeps going up where the old restaurants were, so they get lost in the process.

I wasn’t trying to imply the kids are the ones making the money off redevelopment, sorry if that was the impression given. I was thinking more along the lines of what Steve said. The people redeveloping certainly want to make sure they can attract students however - and their money.
And as to @frozen4champs point - yeah, take those last few places away and you’ll certainly lose $ from us “olds” spending more money on campus before games. 🤷♀️
Let’s see, you have 3 campus stadiums nearby but you’re going to remove 3 large restaurants that are filled with fans on game days? Losing Sterbs, Canes AND BWW! Where the hell do they think people will go pre-game? Or do they seriously think folks will pony up even more money eating boring food and overpriced beverages inside the stadiums? I’m feeling very cranky pants right now.

Real Estate developers always see luxury apartments as the answer to everything for... reason$. Even if the majority of students had a say in this it's not like their opinion holds much weight here. As far as new restaurants I kinda doubt that has anything to do with the students and more the fact that chain restaurants have infinite money to spend that local one offs don't.
But yeah it sucks, no argument there as Stubs is the one place I'd actually enjoy going to before games or in the case of Frozen Four/NCAA's I'd sometimes watch the games there. Now you pretty much only have Dinkytown or somewhat of a hike from Blue Door/Mannings/Como Tap (I'm perfectly fine walking that far but I realize that's not a great option for everyone). I think Burrito Loco is gone now too so I think we're down to like 3 college bars between Stadium Village and Dinkytown.
