Dunn’s hit on Zuccarello was high, but I’m also not sure what Mats was doing making the move he did with where Dunn was. Didn’t seem to be a case where he had his head down, but maybe he was looking down at the wrong time. Pronger defense applies as well. His head hitting the ice may have contributed to him being dazed.

I finally saw the play. Hard to call it dirty. Now Dunn does crouch and then lift right before the point of contact but I still think the result is more on Zucc than Dunn. Plus Dunn has only 24 PIM on the year and with that I doubt is known for playing cheap.
I don't think that the hit was dirty in the sense that Dunn was trying to run Zuccarello. It was however a textbook major and game plus a couple game suspension. Can't make a hit from that angle and get the head first.

A lot of guys have elevated their game, and Sturm was a big addition to this line up because he adds some much needed depth.

Good questions. Last year the Wild ranked 22nd in fewest man games lost to injury. This year they are 19th. What keeps them with lower numbers is they don't have a bunch of players on LTIR, instead a bunch of few games missed. It seems worst than it is.

If you only get him for part of 1.5 years, you damn well better hope he’s healthy for the playoffs and the piece that can put you over the top and account for cutting some of the middle of the lineup scoring depth

If Quinn signs an extension this may work out nicely but I sure hope Billy got some indication he is willing to consider. If not, we lost a load of talent in Buium and a future first. Unless they have a parade in St Paul in the next two seasons or Quinn extends GMBG may be looking for an GM job in the WHL.

I'm astonished they gave up on a 19 year old defenseman who's tracking as a top pairing. There must be something about his game that Guerin doesn't like. I was enjoying watching him develop... and he didn't even last one season.
I like the way the team is playing and somebody in St. Paul must think this trade puts them over the top because they gave up a boat load. Time will tell, but I don't like the trade.

Buium was the centerpiece of the trade. It doesn’t happen without him included. Rossi helped too, Ohgren is a throw in. Rutherford, Billy’s mentor fleeced him for a first round draft pick too. I don’t think it was the Wild giving up on Buium whatsoever, including Buium is what it took to land Quinn Hughes and Hughes is currently a bonafide NHL superstar D.Giving up Buium is easier if they can sign Hughes.Hate giving up Buium. You also have to think is BG challenging Kaprisov to step up to MVP level every night. He has a solid 2 lines, a great goalie rotation and the D core for postseason level just got way better when healthy. We might not suffer when Spurgeon disappears in the playoffs.

Zeev will be fine and could be great, he's 19, its just not going to happen right this second.
This move puts an all world offensive defensemen right now in his prime on the roster and aligns with two elite players, with Kaprizov being in the middle of his prime and Boldy entering his.
It is all going to come down to whether or not Hughes reups with the Wild or if this is a 1.5 year rental.
It won't happen now but its time to update the "leadership room." Matt Boldy is your Captain, Hughes is an assistant and pick Kaprizov/Erickson Ek for the other.

Guerin wasn't fleeced by giving up a late first rounder (as it stands right now) at all.

Obviously Guerin & Hynes didn’t believe in Ohgren & happily threw him in too. And they didn’t use Buium properly this year, I’ll guarantee Canucks will play Buium in their top 4 going forward.

I mean of course they will play him. They’re in last. There’s no reason not to try load him in minutes as they’re going to try sell a chunk of their roster if they can. Can’t imagine what Boeser and Pettersson are thinking given they’re locked in there for awhile

The Wild traded a forward and a defenseman who have been defensive liabilities (2nd and 3rd worst minus on the team) and a forward who in 18 games has no points.
Regarding this trade hurting our scoring depth the player we got basically has as many points as the three players we traded combined.
Yes Hughes is a -10 this season but that will happen when you play the most minutes on a bad team. Over his career he has been a + player on mediocre teams.
Rossi is 24 years old he isn't likely to become a really good player. He kind of is who he is yes he might get a little bit better, but he is a defensive liability which is why he was playing 4th line in the playoffs last season.
Yes Buium who is 20 years old has the potential to be a superstar, but we traded him for somebody who is a superstar.
Ohgren who turns 22 years old in a month in a half has potential but is a forward who so far has played 46 NHL games (over three seasons) with 3 goals, 4 assists, 7 points.
This team is clearly better now. The next 6 months has a lot of opportunity to be really fun. 2.5 months ago people were saying we were going to lose Kirill. Now people are worried about losing Hughes. Do people just like to worry?
If the Wild can't get Quinn to sign here they will trade him. Colorado traded Mikko Rantanen 49 games into the last year of his contract (33 games left) and got Martin Neces (31 games, 14 goals, 29 assists, 43 points, +30 for Colorado this season, 83 points last season), Jack Drury, a 2nd and 4th round pick.
Yes losing Buium is tough because of what he could become but we now have what he might become. What team has three superstars as good as Hughes, Kirill, and Boldy?
