What we really need to hope for is that the team gets a kick in the shorts from the goaltender change and they actually show up to start the game. After that, Gus just needs to not dynamite the bit and you're going to have a chance to tie up the series.

There's a lot of people in this thread acting like Wallstedt is and has been the better goalie all season. That simply isn't true. This isn't like going to Fleury would have been the past few years
I know I saw "Wallstedt starts", but I also previously said "...don't change what got you to the playoffs", and swapping goalies when they had a rough go of it was what got them here, so... OK, I'm alright with Gustavsson... For now.

But this is the right time to give Gus his shot to redeem himself and contribute to the cause. Hoping Gus stands on his head tonight & Wild win, but if he doesn’t you simply go back to Wally on Saturday!Don't hate the idea if for no other reason than to give Wally a few days off....just hope it's the confident Gus who kept the Wall from the net and not the shaky Gus who went cold leading up to the post season (though I would argue the entire team mailed it in a few of those games after the Dallas loss locked them into 3rd).

Yeah, I feel like if Gus doesn't get the start after last game then he's never gonna get one the rest of the season, which wouldn't make him happy nor would it make sense from an accountability perspective. And like you said they rotated two all year and he's a good goalie. Other thing I'll say is sometimes it's easier to play the position after taking some time off and just watching other goalies play. Not like they can't go back to Wallstedt either if Gus struggles.They ran 2 goalies all season long. Each one had stretches of time where they were the better goalie. Gus was better than Wallstedt for a decent chunk of the year. Wallstedt earned the chance to start the playoffs and he continued to earn the starts against Dallas. He just gave up 8 goals and was awful. If you're not going to change goalies in this situation, then there is no reason to pay two goalies.
This is the correct time for the change. If gus plays well that's great and he gets another game. If he doesn't then you get a few days to reset everyone and Wallstedt comes back in to play the must win games.

Tonight’s ESPN commentary is by far the worst I’ve ever had to endure. Wischusen, Messier, and PK should all be ashamed of how much they’ve been nonstop glazing the Avs all while not even watching the same game as us.
That 2nd intermission, PK and Messier ranted on and on about how the Avs are skating circles around the Wild, the Wild look like beer leaguers out there etc. - Wild had more shots and a lot more chances as displayed on their own stats tracker.
In the 3rd period, when it became 4-1 Avs they literally started talking about how Colorado played a perfect game tonight and they can be really proud of this one blah blah. Then silent after 4-2. You don’t get outshot 28-20 (up to that point) in a game you’re dominating!!

Strpes and calling playoff hockey drives me nuts. They let them play and then call something and don’t call it.
It’s very much like UND fans when it comes to hockey. When it’s their team doing the hitting, it’s hard nose old time hockey. Though when the hitting is being received, it’s there’s no place for that in today’s game and needs to be called.
