This game is drunk lol. Straight up first night on the boys trip when you haven’t seen each other in a while and you all forget that you’re not 21 anymore level hammered
I did NOT have have a Wild shorty on my bingo card.
Nor did I have a Foligno brothers short handed 2-0 break.

The penalty kill futility is unbelievable...bad luck on that one but geezuz
Probably Sturm. There's way more time and space in this game than at any point in the Dallas series. Brink is an effective player in those situations. Not so much in the dump and grind games they were playingI would bet Brink plays game 2.
For who? He’s been terrible

I think that's a reasonable argument. Brink is a rink rat who can score if he has room to skate.
The other side of that argument is that Sturm is a bigger body and probably a better defensive center and penalty killer (though the latter has sucked no matter who's been on the ice).

I’d agree with that.
None of it matters if your goalie can't make a save
None of it matters if your goalie can't make a save
Walstedt has not been sharp at all, but the team has given up way too many good chances. I mean, 7 goals so far is horse$hit hockey.
They are running all over the place tonight...Middleton has been awful and KK twice didn't cover on 2 goals against. Even Faber got caught too deep and gave up a 2-1 goal.
They had a chance to steal this one but then got sloppy in the 3rd.
Boldy has won more PP faceoffs in this game than Ek did all year
Not to upset the princess, but I would also bet we see Gus in game 2
I guess getting into a track meet with CO isn't a good idea.
MN is so far off their game I don't even recognize them. 8 goals plus an empty netter is embarrassing. I lost count of the odd man rushes and grade A chances.
They need to play Jaques Lemaire hockey but instead give up NINE F'N GOALS
Defensive scheme is completely mismatched, wingers are totally failing to cover Colorado’s D-men. And in the offensive zone, all the guys other than Faber have been way too lackadaisical with the puck right around the Avs’ blueline. They’re too used to Dallas’ level of speed
Yurov coming out of that game a +2 is something positive.
No goals from KK and Boldy, rallied from 0-3, I’m actually encouraged ! Wedgewood ain’t Otter, he can be HAD! On to game 2 on Tuesday.
Not a scorigami.
42 (!!!!) times this score has happened.

When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
I keep seeing Spurgeon trying to play goalie instead of taking out guys. He’s following the puck instead and not taking guys out of the play. Would Brodin be better?
Avs had 17 high danger chances tonight Dallas averaged 13.I guess getting into a track meet with CO isn't a good idea.

This certainly isn't a case of everyone else was great and the goalie sucked, but I would argue that this was a case of everyone looks terrible when the puck keeps going into the net. I don't care if you give up 40 breakaways in a game, they can't score 9 times.
Agree, play is way more up & down & FASTER vs Avs. I’d give Brink another shot. Also, if you’re going to play Gus Bus in this series, Game 2 is the time. Can always go back to Wally G3 on Saturday if Gus doesn’t play exceptionally well. Gives Wally a little rest too.Probably Sturm. Jonas Brodin led the team in +/- this season and has led the team in +/- two of the last three seasons. The other season he was third best. He is an important part of the team.
Brodin and Eriksson Ek are key defensive players that were sorely missed tonight.
I suspect game two will be a lot different i.e. more similar to the previous games played between the teams this season.
The four regular season games were
2-2 (Wild won the shootout)
Colorado 5-1 was 3-1 with 4 minutes left before two late Avs goals (one of which was an empty netter)
Wild 5-2 was 2-1 with 5 minutes left before four late goals (three of which were with the Avs' goalie pulled, two by the Wild and one by the Avs)
2-2 (Colorado won the shootout)
Without Q Wild lose 7-2 tonight!
Wild have an ability to rally they NEVER had in previous seasons…going back to 2000…lol
After reviewing the Avs goals…just a HIDEOUS game by Tarps off Middleton. ANOTHER flubbed flip out play similar to a Vegas OT winner last year Tonight shows in spades why Jake is a bottom 3 pair D, the pace & pressure was overwhelming him. Kaprisov was Awful defensively & Casper the Ghost offensively last night. Boldy was also not his normal ⭐️ level either.None of it matters if your goalie can't make a save

I just can’t believe how the Wild did not change goalies in last nights game, giving up 9 goals
Aloha!
As bad as Wally was the Wild defensive structure was even worse. And Wally was still better than Wedgwood, who makes Otter look like a HOFer!I just can’t believe how the Wild did not change goalies in last nights game, giving up 9 goals
The game may not have been on Wally's shoulders, but you've gotta find at least a couple of tough saves in the 3rd there after you've clawed back to 5-5. There were several goals last night that you just simply have to have if you're going to win games as a goaltender in the playoffs.
Could it be a one off and the team including Wally settles in? Maybe! But there needs to be a very short leash. If you go down early again on Tuesday, you can stick a fork in the series.

No way man. Countless teams have blown a 2-0 series lead. Its also near-impossible for a team to win 6+ straight games.
If the Wild don't change the way they play, it's going to be a loooooong short series.
I lost count of the odd-man rushes and how many chances came from within the circles. EIGHT goals is not the goalie's fault...partly, yes, but he was no worse than the rest of the team. KK alone blew his defensive coverage that led to two goals, while Whiff McGee (#5) bumbled his way through every shift. None of this finger pointing makes these guys bad players, but it does help explain how they gave up 8+1 F'ING goals.
Wallstedt was the worst player on the ice last night. Stop blowing everything else completely out of proportion just to try to hide that fact.
Yes, everyone needs to be better. No, they don't have to change the way they play.

I can't hang 8 goals on goaltending*. He had a terrible game, but Minnesota won't beat these guys in a track meet. The Avs zone entries were too easy, their shots too close, and for the Wild, the unforced errors were too many. As a team last night, the Wild executed as poorly in that game as I've seen them all season. (The Avs were sloppy last night, too.)
I was thinking that after 3 goals the coach might have lifted Wallstedt for Gus, but a minute or two later they were down by only a goal. Would that have made a difference? Who knows, but it would have been no worse.
*FWIW, NHL coach Rick Bowness said he felt sorry for both goaltenders last night and, rather than blame them, blamed poor coverage all night by the players on both sides as the central reason that 15 goals were scored. Your argument that they don't have to change the way they play directly contradicts the opinion of an NHL coach.

Are you insinuating that because Colorado have won 5 straight games they are less likely to win tomorrow night? That’s not how it works

I didn’t say solely because they’ve won their last 5 in a row. Such winning streaks end bc opposing teams figure them out and adjust, mistakes start to pile up etc etc. If it wasn’t hard to win 5,6+ straight, more teams would do it regularly.
As much as the TNT broadcast called it "bad hockey", it was refreshing to watch a game that didn't include 17 players diving like they had been shot, "accidental" elbows to the back of heads, slewfoots, crosschecks to the head/face, and a myriad of other cheapshot plays. (I thought it was hilarious that Rantanen dove so hard, he hit his head on the ice and got called back by a concussion spotter, AND didn't draw the call. I mean... ::chefs kiss::)
When you give up 9 goals, I don't think anyone could say they played particularly well... It is a team game after all. I'd bet Wally would be the first guy to say he didn't have a good game. Not blame missing players like Gus did in his last game. Worst player on the ice? Meh, I dunno... Middleton sure gave him a run for the title last night.
I feel bad for Wallstedt. I think anyone who has every played goalie can relate to having one of those nights where you are just fighting the puck. You make a few great saves, but give up some gimmes, don't control your rebounds... it starts to spiral.
I think the decision now is more difficult than who to start in Game 1. Gus hasn't seen game action since April 13th, and wasn't playing particularly well at the time. Did rest help? Game action is much different than seeing extra pucks in practice. If you go with Gus, are you back to a rotation? Or do you just ride a goalie until they have a bad game? If you feel Wally is your goalie of the future, then you need to see if he can shake it off, and go back to being a great goalie.

Yes, everyone needs to be better. No, they don't have to change the way they play.
Should Wallstedt been pulled after 3-0? Cause at any other point I don’t think you could’ve.
Avs score 3 / 3-0 Avs
Wild score 2 / 3-2 Avs
Avs score 1 /4-2 Avs
Wild score 3 / 5-4 Wild
Avs score 2 / 6-4 Avs
Wild score 1 / 6-5 Avs
Avs score 1 / 7-5 Avs
Wild score 1 / 7-6 Avs
Avs score 2 / 9-6 Avs
I would not have pulled him at 3-0. I would have had a hard time letting him start the 3rd period. Although, I can understand the rationale of letting him go. After he coughed up 2 more in the 3rd, I don't know that it mattered after that.Wallstedt was the worst player on the ice last night. Avs score 1 /4-2 Avs
Wild score 3 / 5-4 Wild
Avs score 2 / 6-4 Avs
Wild score 1 / 6-5 Avs
Avs score 1 / 7-5 Avs
Wild score 1 / 7-6 Avs
Avs score 2 / 9-6 Avs
As for game 2, I don't really believe that there's even a discussion to be had. Gus starts
The only time to change goalies last night was after 3-0. He let in 3 quick goals, I expected a change to keep the game from getting out of hand. But any other time in the game it was competitive and Gus was cold. No reason to pull Wallstedt when he's only down by 1 goal.I just can’t believe how the Wild did not change goalies in last nights game, giving up 9 goals
Wally was the least of their troubles in the defensive zone, never mind the again lack of success on the PP.
It's definitely a bit of both, the expected goals last night was something like 4-3 and ended up 8-6 (not including the ENG). xG obviously isn't perfect because it's nearly impossible for a model to account for a goalie being screened on a perfect snipe by Makar for instance but he definitely would've liked some of those back. I also gotta imagine things get tightened up by both teams a bit in game 2 if for no other reason than coaches tend to be risk averse.
Wallstedt stays in. That's all there is to it.
I would agree… If Wallstedt wasn’t pulled after being down 3-0. I’ll be surprised if he isn’t starting tomorrow. Though his leash might be while a lot shorter.
I will be shocked if Wall doesn't start
Time to be shocked. Gus Bus gets the start.
I will be shocked if Wall doesn't start
Wow! Did not see that coming. Do not agree with the decision, but hope I am proven wrong.
personally don’t like the move, seems a little on the desperate side a little early. Game one sucked for everyone. I’m not shocked by it. imo a little overreaction but we’ll see and I too hope I’m wrong and Gus looks great. Doesn’t show the most confidence in Wally either. At the same time you can go with it this way, “ that’s my net” “they just scored 10 (9) goals Jim, right now it’s everybody’s net”
“Good pace, a lot of north and south, or it could be east and west, I’m not sure but either way…” Wooger
Pohlad baseball ⚾️ it’s not arrogance, we really are “that good” #”Hey Siri, play “faithfully” by Journey max volume”
They ran 2 goalies all season long. Each one had stretches of time where they were the better goalie. Gus was better than Wallstedt for a decent chunk of the year. Wallstedt earned the chance to start the playoffs and he continued to earn the starts against Dallas. He just gave up 8 goals and was awful. If you're not going to change goalies in this situation, then there is no reason to pay two goalies.
This is the correct time for the change. If gus plays well that's great and he gets another game. If he doesn't then you get a few days to reset everyone and Wallstedt comes back in to play the must win games.
Don't hate the idea if for no other reason than to give Wally a few days off....just hope it's the confident Gus who kept the Wall from the net and not the shaky Gus who went cold leading up to the post season (though I would argue the entire team mailed it in a few of those games after the Dallas loss locked them into 3rd).
Go back and watch the highlights, specifically Colorado's goals. Several of the goals were quite similar to each other, and I think Kadri let the cat out of the bag a bit.
Pulling the trigger was the right move. Yet to be seen if Gus will perform, but it's a wager you gotta take.
