I was lucky 🍀 enough to be in attendance at the game tonight. When Q scored the 3rd goal the Arena Erupted! And when Boldy scored the clinching 4th goal, I’ve never heard the Arena louder. But I’d argue Vladys goal to tie it 2-2 after Dallas took a 2-1 lead late in the 2nd to knot the score prior to the intermission was the most crucial goal. What a night, lots of demons exorcized in the process! Bring on the Avs! F-cken Right! Go Wild! 😀
It’s a great trade if they actually do something and/or he stays. If the end result is beating Dallas and that’s it, I don’t think it’s anything for Billy to be thumping his chest about.
They beat the #2 seed and now have to face the #1 seed in the semifinals.
They didn't acquire Hughes until December. Had they had him from the beginning of the season they'd have likely earned the #2 seed, and in a normal playoff world would be playing the 3 or 6 seed for a chance to reach the conference finals. Even if they didn't pass Dallas they'd only now be playing the 2 seed in the semis. Everything in perspective the trade has paid huge dividends.
ftr I did not envision the trade paying off this well this quickly and will happily admit to being wrong about it.
Where it might fall apart is if they are unable to keep him while also continuing to maintain a playoff run worthy roster.
The most likely scenario is that they don't win the Cup and they can't keep Hughes, but if they make a run this year and next year (e.g. lose in the 2nd round this year, conference finals next year), I would still say it was successful just from a numbers game.
...But if they keep Hughes, and especially if they win the Cup at least once, this would probably be one of those all-time, historic trades that is talked about for decades.

as @rowshkex says, if they win a cup, it does not matter in the slightest what you traded to get him. It's a win no matter what. If all it is a WC semis (you knew the playoff structure, not sure that really matters in the argument), it's going to be a wash or depend on what you traded becomes.
They are a significantly better team in the here and now with him. Now is time to make it count and hopefully he's feeling the love and like he wants to re-sign here long-term.
I think Billy had balls to go for it, and that's what you want your GM to do. It's still got to pay off bigger than just winning a single series to make it worth it imo. Think getting to the finals is the at minimum. I get we haven't been out of the 1st round in a long time, but that's no reason to lower what the goal should be when you move almost your entire prospect pool to get there. there's a reason we're now in the mid to high 20s in terms of prospect pool rankings now and that was to try win it. This team has the ability to do it, but they're going to need Ek and Hartman to have the series of their lives trying to keep up down the middle with Colorado.

Hughes is the obvious headline for this year's edition of the Wild but somewhere beneath the fold there's a story about the possibility of trading Wallstedt by the trade deadline. I honestly think they don't get by Dallas if they had to play the late season version of Gus.
I was taking my heart pills two at a time last night, and Ek walking down the tunnel felt like the end if the season.
Now they need #25 back to help defend the speedy Avs.
I think Q is having a great time playing for the Wild. And while many made significant contributions to the series victory, there’s no way we get past the Stars without Q! Two goals & an assist on Vladys was a Superstar closing act to Round 1
I would be really surprised if Hughes doesn't sign a 2-3 year extension this summer. 3 years would line his contract up with his brothers and give him all the options he could want.
IMO it’s underappreciated how Faber makes the Wild a totally perfect fit for QH. Nobody else can realistically offer Quinn such an elite righty D-partner as Brock, and I guarantee that’s one of the main factors in wherever Quinn decides to end up long term.
also, all the NHL-only viewers and the amateur commentators/wannabe analysts continue to sleep on Brock. None of these idiots online have the attention span or the puck knowledge to see just how good Faber is. Yet they’ll slobber all over guys like Slavin (whose rep got a major boost from being carried by Faber at 4 Nations and the Olympics)

I’m liking the fact the Wild are going into Colorado with a possible 3 to 4 days of rest for Game 1. The Avs have been sitting around for well over a week. Would like to see the Wild come out and run and gun the Avs before they can get their game legs going.
