"stay out of the box" is such a lame thing to say. You don't get to decide if the refs are going to call penalties or not. You don't get to just quit and go home if the officiating is terrible. It's pretty much impossible to know what is or isn't a penalty when a game is officiated like last nightAlternatively to ragging on specific guys, we could just go with staying out of the box and it would solve basically all the problems.
the score in the series is 8-3 in 5v5 play.
i feel really confident shooting the puck over the glass, having too many men and tripping players is a penalty all the time (unless you're playing the Gophers in the postseason). I wouldn't care if it was roughing or whatever, same as I don't really blame Hartman for the "interference" he took as is such bleh, but we're taking a unnecessary stick infractions and procedural penalties.
Never said quit and go home, but you will undoubtedly find the team agrees that they need to stop taking stick infractions. Counter to that is we could score on our own PPs, but we're not helping ourselves with the procedural crap
i get it
but brodin took a (albeit soft) one against Steel in a no danger spot
Boldy and Yurov both shot the puck over the glass (the Boldy one is kind of crazy given how it happened but still)
Hughes took one in OT that Rantanen sold but was unnecessary
The refs are all over the place in terms of what they're calling which does not help, but this is a team issue. We've taken 21 minors in 3 games which is complete insanity (with a total of 3 that have been part of coincidentals). That is unacceptable team hockey with only 5 skaters who have played every game without a penalty (does also make what Faber is doing even more impressive given the minutes and assignments he plays to have no penalties)
All true. Faber, Boldy, and Ek have all been terrific and playoff-ready. Johannson has been pretty good, too. There's one guy missing from this list of high performers...can't quite come up with his number....
Brodin's penalty was a bad one and a terrible way to start the game. I can't remember it exactly, but maybe he thought he was caught going forward against and exiting player. At any rate, not a good penalty to take in the first couple of minutes. That set a bad tone.
Not saying Kaprizov has been playing great, but take any other superstar in the league and pair them with third liners for 2 games and see what happens.
That is a fair point. It is still beyond frustrating to see such a drop off.Not saying Kaprizov has been playing great, but take any other superstar in the league and pair them with third liners for 2 games and see what happens.

We don't agree with much on officiating, but I will agree with this statement, this time.
"Stay out of the box" is not as lame to say when it is stupid stuff after the whistle, and retaliation. Which is what killed the Wild 3 years ago. This year... We've entered this weird "gray area" where I don't think anyone knows what is going to get called next.
The old playoff standard of play where we better be bleeding or dead to draw any sort of a call appears to be gone. It started last year, and this year, these games are now being called like a random December game. Which would be fine, if it were consistent. However, we have blatant penalties being ignored, and then a random crosscheck that happens 27 other times in the same game is suddenly called. The spear to Kaprizov, Rantenen ripping Hughes stick out of his hands and falling down with it, the blatant interference in OT on Ek when we were already on the PK...
As long as Dallas can do whatever they want, only get called on it sometimes, and the Wild do not make them pay by scoring PP goals... that is going to dictate the series. I think the Wild as a whole are doing an admirable job of not engaging in any shenanigans after the whistle.
Not saying Kaprizov has been playing great, but take any other superstar in the league and pair them with third liners for 2 games and see what happens.
...and this exposes the Wild's biggest weakness. They can't field two top lines with its 38 year old winger the press box.
Most teams would salivate at this D corps, but depth at forward is not a strength.
Boldy is doing it.Not saying Kaprizov has been playing great, but take any other superstar in the league and pair them with third liners for 2 games and see what happens.
The linemates excuse is fine if you're ob a market value deal. When you hold out for the richest contract in the history of the game, you better be a top 3 player in the world every single night
It's only going to get worse because now Dallas knows that they don't have to respect the Wild PP. It's a good strategy for them to push everything to the line because they know any penalty they take will be a PP they get later when the refs inevitably "even things up""stay out of the box" is such a lame thing to say. true, wondering at what point do the wild start handing out some Christian bow ties of their own and not to just anyone, key guys like Robertson or rattanen. Just my frustrated pissed off take I had last night especially.

Taking some runs at Dallas best players like Robertson, Ranttanen or Johnston is not out of bounds to all. But conversely it’s something Dallas has perfected as a team the last few years through countless playoff series. Wild need to get a lead on Saturday and extend it. They must make EFFECTIVE adjustments to their PP & PK. They must not take DUMB stick penalties. They have to play like their lives depend on it, but still under control. This Dallas team isn’t on the level of the 24 or 25 SC Champ Panthers for Christ Sakes! Execute properly and the series will be tied 2-2! That should be Hynes & Billy’s expectation & demand of the players on Saturday…nothing less! It's only going to get worse because now Dallas knows that they don't have to respect the Wild PP. People aren't wrong about the refs being ass (it ain't just this series) but Yurov throwing the puck OOB to give up the game losing PP was so unnecessary. He had way more time to do literally anything else. No saying how that game ends if he doesn't do that.
And people are right about the Wild PP, just passing it around up top doesn't open anything up in terms of good looks, they need to change it up and force the D down low to open up Hughes up top.
A lot of chatter, but the bottom line is if the PP didn't disappear the past 2 games the series could be 3-0 in favor of the Wild
Saw this posted elsewhere. Game 3 stats don't math but assuming it's 57-43.
Offensive zone faceoff win percentages by game
Game 1: Dallas 48% Wild 52%
Game 2: Dallas 71% Wild 29%
Game 3: Dallas 57% Wild 29%

I wouldn't be 100% sure about that. If it is offensive zone faceoff wins, those numbers could equal well over 100, or well under 100.
A Dallas offensive zone faceoff is a separate event from a Wild offensive zone faceoff event. I am surprised the first two games added up to 100.
Dallas could win 57% of their Offensive Zone faceoffs, and win 71% of the Wilds offensive zone draws (their defensive zone) as well.
"If the PP didn't disappear the past 2 games" is a pretty big IF. Our special teams has been disappointing in the playoffs for awhile. Our highest paid players aren't showing up in critical games for awhile. These aren't really new issues we are talking about. Sure, the PP was great in the regular season, and Game 1, but Dallas has made some adjustments and our PP is u-g-l-y.
It seems to be that in Playoff series the last several years that the Wild had been in, they win an early game, and whatever they did, the opponent adjusts. As soon as we can't do that thing anymore, we crumble. We don't adjust, change approach, or anything. We are the toddler trying to cram the square peg into the round hole over and over again, and wonder why it does not work.
Based on the number of other games I am watching, and seeing Dallas do it multiple times, the Shot/Pass bank off the back wall is very much a thing. Maybe we should give that a try? Maybe Spurgeon could get a little closer than his free zone clearing slapshot 10' wide of the net off the glass.
Zucc still out.

Are you just looking for an argument? The FACT is the PP has underperformed the past 2 games no one would logically argue that.
And just now in the pregame they talked about how the Wild after their prior PP failures are going to.change up the strategy. You better call TNT too and tell them them they don't have a point.
I don't know that I have seen a PK put in less effort. Faber is embarrassing on the PK
The penalty they called to put DAL on the PP that scored the first goal was absurdly weak.
Don’t suck on the PP.

Penalties are assessed if an attacking player deliberately initiates contact, restricts the goalie’s movement, or initiates more than incidental contact while the goalie is outside their crease.
It wasn't deliberate, he didn't restrict Oett from stopping the goal and it was easily seen as incidental. You can feel different about it if you want.
You do understand that there is an actual rulebook and an actual rule that covers exactly what happened? Seems more and more Ott makes saves he doesn’t know how he made unless it’s shot into his pre reaction and sees half of what goes past him on goal or not. Keep him busy and this is our time, our game, our series!

Total sell job by Benn, Fabers stick was no near his head
It is crazy that there is not recourse for that type of dive by Benn
Can't score on the power play. Can't score on one.
This will the the story of this series if it ends with a thud. One again, the Wild have are showing they are not a playoff team.
The Wild deserve to go home. This is beyond pathetic. This will go down as there worst playoff loss by far.

when you allow a guy below the deep red to sit there and pick your open man at point blank and hit him to get that kinda scoring chance that’s a problem and on our pp it’s everything but. No quality chances with time and space.

btw I believe Hynes was 7-21 in the playoffs heading into this game.
And here I thought the Gophers had a bad PK this year. This is horrible.
We are Minnesota……sports. Yay. 👏
Hopefully Otter breaks a strap and they have to swap goalies while he takes two minutes to have it fixed. 🤞🤞
