didn't realize the Lightning were running a blood drive tonight.
I will not argue taking the goal off the board, but these idiots think Brink should’ve been penalized for that? Clearly never watched Ryan Suter play.
You're playing a dangerous game if you're going to reward players for diving into their own goaltender. if I was McCarron, I would mysteriously find a way to get pushed onto Vasilevsky about a half dozen times.

This has been getting worse and worse the past couple years, and it isn't just in the NHL.
Players are using what used to be incidental contact in front of the net as an excuse to CRASH into the goalie. Defending players are going it because goals are coming off the board (yes, you do run the chance that one might not at some point). Attacking players are doing it because Chaos, and why not.
He went down very easily, made sure he went into the goalie, and made zero effort to vacate the area once he was there.
It will continue, until goals start to get left on the board.
Hey, look at the goalies kicking the net off. After the very public display of the Wild scoring that goal against Nashville earlier this year, there has been a significant curb to nets being intentionally knocked off. There is now the threat of those goals counting, which was a veiled, not real threat before.
Make a couple of these goals count, and I bet suddenly some defensive players will get better balance, and more urgency in front of the net. Right now, there is no reason for them to have either.
Jfc Gus…
How was that not icing on Tampa’s 4th goal?
How was that not icing on Tampa’s 4th goal?
Cernak chopped Zuccy's leg to double him over and then skated by him to be the first one to the face off circle. Apparently, the same refs who called the ticky tacky calls against Johansson and Faber didn't think it merited a penalty.
Two 2-goal leads blown and they lose by 3...woof.
The talent didn't show up tonight.
Do these games really matter? No. The Wild are the #3 seed.
However, the annual limp into the playoffs gets a little old. If the Wild regularly got out of the first round, I wouldn't care and assume they could "flip the switch" when the time came. However, this team hasn't "flipped the switch" in over a decade. I am not in sky is falling mode, but I am a little concerned. I am a little stitious...
2-4-1 in the last 7 isn't great, both wins took OT, and non-playoff format OT at that.

wild are a very difficult team to read.
In regulation they're 25-20
they're 4-5 in shootouts but 11-7 in 3v3. Obviously a bunch of this is pre-QH but when you compare to Colorado (41-13 in regulation) and Dallas (33-17) and that puts the Wild way closer to the middle of the pack (they're 18th in regulation wins but 6th in total wins)
Is part of why I'd really like the league to figure out a way to change the value for regulation wins as you shouldn't be rewarding teams as heavily for just trying to get it to OT or discrepantly rewarded for being good in a 3v3 which is non-playoff hockey like Anaheim (16-4 in the extra session and 8-0 in the shootout)
I'm already prepared for a first series flame out but honestly last night's loss doesn't bother me too much. Late fluky goals happen to every team. Tampa is good, but it irked me that the Wild blew two 2-goal leads. I thought Minnesota was the better team, but they failed to bury an opponent when they had their chance.
It bothers me more that they've gone into a losing spell this late and against inferior competition. These past few weeks is where they've blown the opportunity to catch Dallas. I'm not sure how much of a difference it will make. The Wild seem to be a good road team and the playoffs are only a one-game home advantage (although, if it goes 7, that game is huge to have your fans behind you).
This is the best team they've ever assembled but unfortunately there are two teams in their own division with a better record.
JEE for the win with three seconds left! He's so good in front of the net.

The Wild had 49 shots on goal tonight against the two time defending Stanley Cup champions. The Wild defensemen had 21 shots on goal while Florida had 20 shots on goal total.
The moose scored the first goal of the game. It was his first game back from injury and his first game playing with his brother who was on the ice when he scored.

Not a great effort so far in Boston. Faber & Hughes are each a minus 3 through a period and a half.

I didn't know that - never watched the game. Too bad, would have liked to see him given a look.
4-0 good guys. Hughes great little play on the line to hit Middleton that walks in for a sniper.

That play went to show that if you give any NHL player a ton of time and space, they’re probably going to score. Middleton had half zone all to himself, and the goalie wasn’t prepared for it. (Thanks to Hughes’ great play)
Unless it’s a shootout 😁

luckily an absolute lol of a move from Kane and KK gets the hatty and Detroit needs an EA goal to try make the comeback finished. just a braindead move from Kane
I heard them say today the Wild were something like 30-0 this season when leading going into 3rd period this season
Aloha!
Sloppy 3rd period.
But at least they scored on the power play late (thank you Patrick Kane for taking a dumb penalty) to pull it out in regulation. And the Wild hit 100 points today!
Seeing discussion about Filip Gustavsson being the defacto starter in the playoffs. I don't think it is that cut and dry, and honestly shouldn't be the case in my mind.
Why do teams, and the Wild frequently it seems, stop doing what got you there? A few years ago when Talbot was playing well, and then all of the sudden we HAVE to start MAF in the playoffs?
We reached this point with both goalies playing well, going just about every other game. Why wouldn't we continue that in the playoffs? At least until someone gives you a reason not to start them. And honestly, Wallstedt has been playing better the Gustavsson the last couple of weeks. He had the stinker against Utah coming out of the break, but other than that has played quite well down the stretch.
If you want to give it to Gus to go game 1, sure. But I don't see a reason right now, not to continue what you've done to get to this point. Don't overthink it and try to get all fancy. Just keep doing what you're doing until one of the goalies gives you a reason not to keep doing it.
Who plays in net for the Wild in the playoffs should be a simple decision. Gus gets the 1st game and he keeps the net until he loses. Wallstedt gets the same treatment once he gets into the lineup. The only exception is if one of them is playing out of their mind. Then maybe you give them another game after a loss.

starts are 47-30 (in favor of Gus). I do generally agree, particularly given they've been almost equivalent. I guess you could argue for "style".
People use the Dallas series we lost in 22-23 as reasoning why you shouldn't as Gus was really good in the game 1 win (double OT) and then Flower gave up 7, but we gave up seemingly a million breaks and odd mans in that game. We then went Gus the rest of the way and lost 4-2. Then we did the weird shit against Vegas last year.
Add that to if you're going with the argument "goalies get in grooves" then you should be 100% pushing to start Wally based on what they've done lately.
There will be some interesting teams to watch what they do. Lots of teams rotating guys again this year. Montgomery in Boston got criticized in media after Swayman was really good starting Ullmark the next game and then went Swayman the rest of the way. Has to be insanely hard for a rotation guy when you go away from it to continue to mentally prepare like you're used to.
Fleury starting game 2 of that Dallas series should've gotten multiple people fired. Just a moronic decision.Seeing discussion about Filip Gustavsson being the defacto starter in the playoffs. I don't think it is that cut and dry, and honestly shouldn't be the case in my mind.

I mean that I agree with given MAF was well past his prime at that point, but I don't really put the fault on him that we lost that game. Gus was clearly better than MAF that year (the stats were not even close).
This year Wall and Gus are almost identical stat wise. If they think mentally Wall isn't ready for it given no postseason experience and his first season in the NHL, I get it.
I would say a goalie giving up 7 goals in a game where his XGA was 3.17, was probably a little responsible for losing that game.Fleury starting game 2 of that Dallas series should've gotten multiple people fired. breakaway SHG, deflected PPG, bad PPG (this was the Benn shot he should not have let in), 3 on 2 he stops the first puck and is scored on, deflected goal, breakaway, backdoor PPG
they played like complete ass. Now if that was a letoff because they patted themselves on the back or it was because MAF was in, sure. They just looked not ready for the pushback that night after the Pavelski injury. MAF was nowhere near great, but was a full fledged team loss where Dallas finished their odd man breaks
The xG (I like moneypuck; maybe you're using them too but super cool way they lay it all out with the goals and stuff) is always interesting. Like Hintz breakaway is .12 xG because of where he shot it but Sundquists is .36 because it's a rebound flurry. Contrast with Dadonov's disgusting tip from the hashmarks that he roofs being only 0.04.
Dallas shot above their expected in that game pretty handily, but some of that is just they shot the puck really well rather than MAF being grossly out of position
but agree on the bigger problem comment 100%. MAF was nowhere at an equal level of Gus. Think the distance between Wallstedt and Gus is a little different imo
