Yeah getting swept by Mankato is not a good look if you want to pretend to be a serious NCAA contender.
Also not a great sign for your Olympic games when nobody but Bouveng and Murphy can score against Mankato much less the top of the conference
This is the last year of Frost's contract, so from that perspective a change after the season would be easier to make. Barring a national title game appearance, that's firmly where I'm at now.
Again with a week off, I will update the stats.

This is shaping up to be one of the most embarrassing weekends in the history of this program.
Beat by Grand Rapids very own Mercury Bischoff. I have no idea why she isn't wearing maroon and gold. ???
I think at this point this team has me completely puzzled. I look at their roster and its pretty good and I think compares well with Ohio State and Wisconsin. I've watched many of their games as well as this season and at times they look pretty good. However, over the past few weeks, I think they've gone in reverse since that win against Wisconsin. Are injuries impacting their play? Seems to me more than that. Their passing and playmaking just do not look like they did earlier in the season.
This past weekend, I watched Wisconsin put up big #'s once again and it's not clear to me that even though their opponents were not top notch that Minnesota could have put up numbers and scoring chances quite at that degree to me at this point. Unless things change over the December break for this team.... I'm resigned to once again seeing either Ohio State win it or egad...Wisconsin putting up yet another banner again.

This team is becoming increasingly tough to watch.
Well, after St. Thomas made it 3-3. The Gophers come to life with a couple quick ones and close it out 5-3.
Can we get Abby Murphy to dress for the men's team? 🤣

Gophers over St.Thomas 4-1. Very solid defensively outshooting them 38-13. Best game in a while.

Kennedy's article in USA Today for the top 10 PWHL draft prospects has Murphy at 2, Laitinen at 5, and Morrow at 9.
The Women are back at it after a fairly long layoff travelling to Fairfield, Connecticut for a pair with the hated Pioneers of Sacred Heart. Game times are 4:00 this afternoon and noon tomorrow. Looks like both games should be available on ESPN+

Lines for today. Still no Sarah Paul. Starting to wonder if we will see her again.

Went to the game today. Paul made the trip, for whatever that's worth.
The game ended 4-0 but it wasn't that close.

I watched the game. It looked like good seats weren’t hard to find 😉. Nice looking building though.
Hopefully folks out there bet the over today.
14-2 final
Chloe Primerano does NOT make the Canadian Olympic team.
So Minnesota will officially be missing Murphy, Laitinen, Plosova, and still unofficially Bouveng for the final four series of the regular season including series against Wisconsin and UMD here, at Ohio State and home/home vs St. Thomas.
Suppose it's possible they could still be here for the WI series on 1/30 and 1/31 but final PWHL game is 1/28 so guessing they will be heading to Italy that weekend.
WI will be missing: Simms, Harvey, Edwards, McNaughton and Sapapova
OSU Will be missing Dunne, Sanni Vanhanen, and likely Mira Jungåker, Hilda Svensson and Jenna Raunio
UMD will be missing Ida Karlsson, Thea Johansson as both Gacson and Kramer are not selected to Canada's roster.
Women up 9-2 after two against Mankato. Games on Fox 9+

This is crazy to me when there is a professional league.
Much tighter today, 4-3 today for the sweep.
This goal made the trip worthwhile

Abbey Murphy doing Abbey Murphy things!!!!!!!!
Could you imagine how great the level of hate for the Frost would be elsewhere in the league if they managed to get Murphy? 😂
That was filthy! Wow!

She also scored this one a few minutes earlier, but I kind of forgot it after the other one.

The emergence of Kendra Distad as an offensive factor over the past month or so has been fun to watch. Her rising confidence in a short period of time is something you don’t see often. The only similar case that comes to mind might be Abby Boreen.

Nine of her goals this season have come in this ten-game winning streak.
@outofstateoutofmind Couldn't be happening at a better time. Huge series up next weekend for the Gopher women and they are going to need her and Bella to keep their game up as the Badgers are really good at paying lots of attention to Murphy. It's been good to see the Gopher women starting to up their scoring level to pretty much match that what the Badgers are capable of this year. So, they series in my mind could be almost even. I still give the Badgers the edge overall, but I can see the Gophers winning at least one of these two meetings in Ridder this year and potentially even stealing that second one as well (or perhaps getting the extra point in an OT win or loss). Should be a great hockey matchup nonetheless as one would you expect it to be.
If the Gophers can limit the PP opportunities to the Badgers and avoid odd man rushes the other way due to poor turnovers, then I think they can surprise them win the weekend. Let's go Gophers!
Will this weekend be with, or without Olympians?

American Olympians are flying out Thursday, per the Sirens-Frost broadcast today. What that means for the other countries, I don't know.

Yes they all are gone. I think Murphy said on the podcast with Mike Grimm a week ago that the international players all left today.
So this weekend Minnesota will be down Murphy, Bouveng, Laitinen, and Plosova (top 2 forwards, top D, and a middle of the lineup player)
and WI will be missing Harvey, Edwards, McNaughton, Simms and Sapovalivova. (Top D, two of 3 top forwards, top goalie and a mid pack player who is very good)
Guess we see who has better depth. Gophers suddenly have the best goalie by a mile.
MN beats the Badgerettes!
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
MN beats the Badgerettes!
Might be the first Gopher OT win over the Badgers since Sarah Potomak in the 2016 Frozen Four. If I'm wrong, please tell me.
The women played a good but not great game and still battled for a tough fought win. Both sides had good chances in OT. The save of the night came from Clark just before the game winning goal. Nice save Clark!
Now for the sweep!
Feels like this has been the story of this team the past few years. One step forward, immediately two steps backwards.

yep I just saw the score 6-0 WisconSIN after 2 periods
Aloha!
Woof
More to it than goaltending today but it has to be Clark's net for the rest of the season. Has to be.
I'll take a split with WI this weekend and for the season. We're WI's only 2 losses on the season.

I didn't watch the second game. Different goaltenders?
Hemp started today, let in the first three. The goal that got her pulled was a 2-on-0 so I can't say anything about that. But Clark's the better goalie. Sometimes you just have to pick one for the stretch run. That time, in my opinion, is now.

I completely agree, I just wish it had been a bit more competitive yesterday. I looked, and in the past three seasons, the Gophers have beaten Wisconsin 3 times on a Friday night. They’ve gone on to lose the Saturday game on all three occasions by a combined score of 18-4.
The last Gopher sweep over the Badgers was January 21st and 22nd of 2022. The last Gopher sweep over Ohio State was January 25th and 26th of 2019.

The series was at home, they needed OT to win and were spanked in the loss.
