In general... everything seems to change on a dime... but once that NHL ELC is signed guys are no longer an option for NCAA. It's the guys who are on ATO, PTO, ECHL, Europe deals that have been able to slip through back to NCAA.

for sure and agree. I just don’t know how the ncaa is going to exclude them if the salary is lower than a year scholarship cost. I’m sure only a matter of time until someone tries to challenge it

You’d think Cullen would be a lock. Buttweiler is really good too. Lukewarm on Schemenauer and Knott they seem like pretty projectable Dmen with size.

Thompson and Cullen look like the stars, though still plenty of development time. Have seen rumblings Thompson is likely to UND though just rumblings.

Cullen, McKinnon and Thompson are all legit.
Also Dean Stevens is a name most don’t know because he played bantams last season but many say he’s one of the best 2010’s in the state.
How exactly is Knott related to the Wisconsin coach? Figure there can't be too many Knotts out there but if he's living in Bemidji he probably isn't a son.
Back to the Ruck twins, Preston is always described as a triplet to them. Whether or not they're that close I don't know, from afar, but they've played on the 2024 U17 World Challenge and U18 Hlinka Gretzky teams together. Lin was on those teams, too. Now that Preston is in Vancouver, he and Lin are again teammates. So there's connections between all of them.

Landon DuPont is the top name for Wheeler in 2027. The first-ever exceptional status defender in the WHL, he certainly seems like the next CHL kid to skip to NCAA quickly.
Nolan Fitzhenry is ranked No. 12, Gunnar Conboy and Levi Harper were honorable mentions outside the top 25.
I hope Larson can convince Harper to go back to Saginaw for one more year. He’s not physically ready for college hockey and he’d barely be 18.

With Cullen being reported on the staff, really hope we can lock down that Moorhead pipeline. If there ever was a time to, it’s now. SO much elite talent coming from that place right now. Aside from the Cullens good names to keep an eye on:

Any connection to Moorhead at the moment would be fantastic. They have always had a good program; looks like they are in a golden era now.

He held up against 11x 19-20 year old NHL prospects last night just fine and probably played close to 30 min.

Good goalie, yes...but also a product of playing in Everett which is one of the only teams in the WHL that plays defense. Evan Gardner from Saskatoon would be a better target for the Gophers

Bergeson, Kraft and Zimmerman probably aren’t Gopher caliber unfortunately. Maybe if their development goes north in juniors I could see it. Thoreson is really good but he’s wanted to be a Fawk since he was a little kid so probably no luck there.
Buttweiler and Dozark are the two I’d be watching closely. They both followed Matt and Joey Cullen to the Honeybaked program so clearly they’re pretty tight.

Completely disagree on Bergeson and to a lesser extent Zimmerman. Bergeson played to a point per game in the USHL and won Mr. Hockey. Zimmerman is still only 17 and he has time to grow more in juniors for another year or two.
But yes Kraft’s season was definitely less inspiring in the WHL.
Bergeson is the only one I’d have interest in. He’s got a ton of speed and a guy who could play up and down the lineup. Kraft is a team first guy that could be a 3rd/4th liner I guess.
I’ve never been overly impressed with Zimmerman, he lets his teammates do all the work and gets points off a majority of their hard work.

The problem with all three of those guys is they aren’t quite skilled enough to play up the lineup here but their games don’t really translate down the lineup.
I compare those three to Jimmy Clark, a player who caught some flack from some on here last season, and I’d take Clark over all three pretty easily actually.

Cmon now, Bergeson completely outperformed Jimmy Clark at every level up to college. Set aside winning Mr. Hockey, an 18 year old who scored at a point per game in the USHL on a team who had no one else score NEAR that clip is 100% good enough to play for the Gophers, and I think he’ll be a very good upperclassmen in college. I think that was an incredible recruiting job by Raboin to get him.
I could maybe see comparing quality of player with Clark to Zimmerman, but we’ll see how Zimmerman does next year.
Does Bode Laylin follow his dad here? Right shot puck moving defenseman had 38 points in 54 games which was second most on a low scoring tri city team. 7th most points for defensemen in the USHL but most points for players in their draft year.
Jake Prunty is another puck moving right shot defenseman who’s a few years away but led the entire USHL in ppg .88 (37pts 42games) for defensemen as a 2009 in his draft-1 year which is pretty impressive. Him and Conboy were the only two 2009 born players to make the WJAC team this past year. Committed to UMASS but one to keep your eye on.
Laylin is one we’ve talked about on here and I’m sure the new staff is discussing. I’d take him, granted they have the room with Harper, Geiger and McArthur coming in.

Yeah I put it in the NCAA thread figuring he wasn’t much of a “Potential Future Recruit “. Hopefully that changes in the near future and great get for them.
It will not mean anything until we see it in practice, but Larson has been saying the right things in that regard so hopefully the program gets more involved in the space.

Hawke Huff has supposedly decommitted from St. Cloud State, which given the timing, makes him a name to watch in the future.

He and Laylin one point apart. 39 for Huff with 3 goals and 36 assists. 11 and 27 for Laylin (not that he has decomitted and perhaps he won't). For comparison, Grimes right behind with 9 and 26 for 35.
Love the scouting report on Huff, though: Strengths: Physical and defensively detailed, hard-hitting, strong on his edges, clears the front of the net, and excels at winning puck battles.
Going to be interesting to see what happens on the back end as the roster shakes out.
He was a very defensive dman at Wayzata. Rock solid on the back end, but not much offense to his game back then.
