Let’s look at the four Frozen 4 teams last season. Here’s who lead each of them in time on ice:

Michigan: TJ Hughes, undrafted

North Dakota: Jake Livanavage, undrafted

Wisconsin: Ben Dexheimer, undrafted

Denver: Boston Buckberger, undrafted

Gophers fans have expectations that are no more lofty than literally anyone else. Competing for National Championships. The big thing is they also just happen to have probably the largest following in college hockey, which will then breed contempt from the others. 

If we get hate for expecting the program to be in contention year in, year out, with no excuses, then so be it! If you start saying sorry for it you lose that identity.

Other fanbases' hatred / ill-will towards the Gophers mainly stems from 2 things:

1. Jealousy - they want our wins, talent and pedigree, and our massive support base;

2. Regional elitism - whether it's easterners who look down on us as flyover country, or the outstate/FHawks people who think we're the elitist metro bastards.

Gopher fans being more humble, or less humble, is never gonna make other fanbases change their minds about either of these things. So, I'm fine with the other fans thinking we might be a little arrogant. Literally all of their programs have losing all-time records against the Gophs anyways, and they've had 106 years and counting to do something about it.

@g-manpuck If hate for the Gopher Hockey program makes life difficult for you, I hope you find what you need to compete your life.

Honestly, I think it’s a fun change as a Minnesota sports fan. Very rarely do we Minnesotans get to be the “big, bad *insert team here*”. Usually it’s the other way around. So to be the team that everyone hates is alright with me.
